Had this for a number of years.  Pulled the '24/'26? Prowler to Virginia, Florida and back to California. It burned about a quart a tank before I left , but to the top of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado had it smoking on the way down.  The last 3/4 tank of gas that got me to Virginia needed 5 quarts. :) Rebuilt it there at the Ford Motor Company, established 1915 and still in the same building,  in my hometown of Marshall Virginia. Used to buy ice cold Coke in bottles there for 5 cents.  They were one of my Grit  subscribers .

Santa’s Horned Helper: The Fearsome Legend of Krampus, Christmas Punisher

Via Bill

Saint Nicholas and Krampus visit a Viennese home (1896 illustration).

In ancient times, a dark, hairy, horned beast was said to show up at the door to beat children, and carry them off in his sharp claws. The Krampus could be heard in the night by the sound of his echoing cloven hooves and his rattling iron chains. The strangest part was that he was in league with Santa Claus.

The Christmas Terror

The unnerving beast was no demon, however. He was the mythical Krampus, companion to Saint Nicholas (known as Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, etc.) While Saint Nicholas now has the reputation of loving all children and visiting them at Christmastime, judging their character and giving gifts to the ‘nice’ ones and lumps of coal to the ‘naughty’ ones, Krampus plays the dangerous sidekick.

Merry Trumpmas, America! It's Good News Everywhere You Look!

President Donald Trump waves to supporters during a rally in Pensacola, Fla., Friday, Dec. 8, 2017

The Trump tax cuts are a YUGE hit with corporations all across the fruited plains, bringing cash bonuses and raises to countless Americans just in time for Christmas. It's an unbelievably exciting time to be alive and the winning just won't stop. The corporations joining the celebration so far are AT&T, Boeing, Comcast, Fifth Third Bank, Sinclair—and the list is growing. Reddit is littered with personal stories of bonuses being handed out at companies that never gave bonuses before.

Not only did Comcast give bonuses, but an employee called Rush Limbaugh to report that his whole office got a $1.50 an hour raise. Who could be upset about working Americans being gifted cash money? Never Trumpers, Democrats and their cohorts in the media, of course.

Joe Scarborough, Who Proposed Bill to Leave the UN, Blasts Nikki Haley for Criticizing UN

Via David

On Friday, MSNBC Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough blasted the Trump administration’s response to a United Nations General Assembly resolution the day before criticizing the United States for recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and planning to move the U.S. embassy there.

Ironically, Scarborough himself, as a Republican member of Congress, introduced a bill that would end U.S. membership in the U.N. and scrap the institution.

UN Launches App to ‘Empower’ Migrants, Encourage Them to ‘Migrate Safely’

Via David

When is the International Organization for Migration going to launch an app for Europeans, on how to protect themselves from rapacious and violent Muslim migrants? The UN and the EU are hell-bent on inundating Europe (and North America) with Muslim migrants, leading to the creation of societies that are just as poor, squalid, dirty and dangerous as the ones these migrants left. There is no upside in this for Europeans. The migrants are supposed to serve as a work force, but they mostly go on welfare. Europe’s traditions and cultures are being surrendered wholesale in order to appease and accommodate the Islamic supremacism of the migrants. The UN and European authorities are condemning their people to a future of poverty, jihad violence, and civil war.

Lee the Specimen of True Manhood

 https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1328876338l/1547892.jpg

The greatest of American military men, indeed a “cavalier, soldier and citizen, Robert E. Lee “effaced self, refused gifts and high place, overcame the bufferings of fate, and in defeat was as calm as in victory.” The author Robert Winston relates a story of a young girl whose father was a diplomat in Rome during the second reign of Grover Cleveland. After seeing a portrait of Lee on her father’s office wall, she asked why a picture of a rebel was so prominently displayed. “Ah, my child,” the father replied, “you are yet too young to understand but someday you will – and so will the world.”

Lee the Specimen of True Manhood

“During his imprisonment Jefferson Davis became a martyr for [the South] . . . Southerners saw in his imprisonment and the manacles and the other indignities a Christ-like figure suffering for their sins, and in the long years after his release. Davis’s struggle to regain his personal and financial fortunes mirrored those of all.

In 1870, when Lee died, [former vice president John] Breckinridge broke his resolution not to speak in public again by delivering a eulogy during memorial services in Louisville. “He failed,” the Kentuckian said of Lee. “The result is in the future. It may be better or for worse. We hope for the better.”

But failure alone did not define a man, or for that matter a cause. Lesser men often met with great worldly success, “but it is disaster alone that reveals the qualities of true greatness.”

While the world applauded those who erected memorials to their achievements, he thought there was another kind of triumph that went beyond the material and transient triumphs of men.

“Is not that man successful also who by his valor, moderation and courage, with all their associate virtues, presents to the world such a specimen of true manhood as his children and his children’s children will be proud to imitate?” he asked.

“In this sense he was not a failure.”

Sovereign Political Communities, Not “One People”

 http://lawreview.richmond.edu/files/2017/04/page3-2025px-Constitution_of_the_Confederate_States_of_America.djvu_-800x500-800x445.jpg

It is erroneously believed today that the United States Constitution followed the Declaration of Independence, though the Articles of Confederation were the first “Constitution.” It is recalled that the Articles were deemed by all parties to it as perpetual and a majority of States were required to approve any changes therein. Nonetheless, eleven States unconstitutionally seceded from the Articles in 1789 and inaugurated a new union – leaving North Carolina and Rhode Island as unaffiliated and independent States.
Bernhard Thuersam, www.Circa1865.com   The Great American Political Divide

Sovereign Political Communities, Not “One People”

“We have seen that the united colonies, when they declared their independence, formed a league or alliance with one another as the “United States.” This title antedated the adoption of the Articles of Confederation.

It was assumed immediately after the Declaration of Independence, and was continued under the Articles of Confederation; the first of which declared that “the style of this confederacy shall be “The United States of America”, and this style was retained – without question – in the formation of the present Constitution.

It has been fully shown that the States thus became and continued to be “united,” and whatever form their union assumed, acted and continued to act as distinct and sovereign political communities. The monstrous fiction that they acted as one people “in their sovereign capacity” has not an atom of fact to serve as a basis. To go back to the very beginning, the British colonies never constituted one people.

The [loose expressions employed in debate in the British Parliament about the time of the American Revolution – such as “that people . . . etc., and] who made use of this colloquial phraseology concerning the inhabitants of a distant continent . . . could little have foreseen the extraordinary use to be made of their expression nearly a century afterward, in sustaining a theory contradictory to history as well as to common sense.

It is as if the familiar expressions often employed in our own time, such as “the people of Africa,” or “the people of South America,” should be cited, by some ingenious theorist of a future generation . . . or that the Peruvians and Patagonians belonged to the same political community.

When the colonies united in sending representatives to a Congress in Philadelphia, there was no purpose – no suggestion of a purpose – to merge their separate individuality in one consolidated mass. No such idea existed, or with their known opinions, could have existed. They did not assume to become a united colony or province, but styled themselves “united colonies” – colonies united for purposes of mutual counsel and defense . . .

As “United States” they adopted the Articles of Confederation, in which the separate sovereignty, freedom and independence of each was distinctly asserted. It was without any change of title – still as “United States” – without any sacrifice of individuality – without any compromise of sovereignty – that the same parties entered into a new and amended compact with one another under the present Constitution.”

Communists vs. Fascists By Linh Dinh

Two blocks from my front door, there are two signs in a house window, “FASCIST SCUM YOUR TIME IS DONE,” “WHITE SUPREMACY IS TERRORISM.” Seeing them, my 71-year-old friend, Felix, snarled, “I feel like throwing a rock through that window! How dare he comes into this neighborhood and calls us Fascists!” Interesting, Felix’ immediate assumption that the man was a newcomer, that is, an outsider who had intruded to find the locals more than deplorable.

Less than a block away, there are these signs in second-floor windows, “VETERANS FOR TRUMP / MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” “TRUMP / MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” “the silent majority STANDS WITH TRUMP,” “TRUMP / MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” plus an American flag.

Fifty yards from that house, there is a poster showing the Santa Maria, Nina and Pinta being flushed down the toilet, “CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS DIDN’T DISCOVER SHIT / DECOLONIZE / ABOLISH POLICE . RETURN STOLEN LAND. CEASE INDUSTRIALIZATION. CEASE ASSIMILATION. PROTECT SACRED LAND AND WATER”

U.S. slaps leader of Chechnya, police chief with sanctions over anti-gay purge

The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on five Russians, including the leader of Chechnya, under a U.S. human rights law that has been a major irritant between Washington and Moscow.

The five Russians were targeted under the Magnitsky Act, passed by Congress in 2012 in response to the death of Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky. He died in prison after exposing a tax fraud scheme involving Russian officials, and the law named after him allows the U.S. to target violators of human rights. All told, the U.S. has targeted 49 Russians under that law.

The latest additions include Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, a predominantly Muslim republic in southern Russia. The Treasury Department said Kadyrov oversaw "disappearances and extrajudicial killings" and that he's believed to have ordered the killing of one of his political rivals.

The rival had accused Kadyrov of personally carrying out torture

On Sunday, Sheriff Clarke joined the chorus of millions of Americans infuriated by the news that FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe plans to retire in the next few months with full government benefits. Many would like to see him fired immediately over allegations he helped fix the Clinton email investigation in the failed presidential candidate’s favor.

Existence of UFOs 'proved beyond reasonable doubt', says former Pentagon X-Files chief

Via Billy

Earth may well have been visited by UFOs from outer space, the former head of a secret US government programme has told The Telegraph.

Luis Elizondo said the existence of supremely advanced unidentified aircraft, using technology that did not belong to any nation, had been "proved beyond reasonable doubt".

Until two months ago, from his office on the fifth floor of The Pentagon, Mr Elizondo, a career intelligence officer, ran the innocuously named Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program (AATIP), which was funded with $22 million in "black ops money" from Congress.

L.A. asked for $3 million for community policing. The DOJ said no. Some fear it's a sign of what's ahead.

Good. I assume you imbeciles can't understand why..........

In 2015, a community policing initiative — one credited with helping curb violence in some of L.A.’s toughest housing projects — scored the Los Angeles Police Department high-level praise.

A captain and a sergeant who led the program were invited to Washington, D.C., earning coveted seats near the first lady during President Obama’s State of the Union address.

This year, L.A. officials applied for more than $3 million in federal funding to help bring the same program to Harvard Park, a South L.A. neighborhood scarred by violence.

The request was denied.
