Memphis mayor should be hauled out of city hall in handcuffs

Via Billy

memphis confed statue reuters

For the past several years progressives have been waging a culture jihad across the nation, turning our nation’s heritage into a pile of rubble. They’ve been bulldozing our history much like the Islamic Radicals have been doing in Iraq.

Sadly, my hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, has suffered a similar fate. Click here to watch the video.

While most of the good citizens of Memphis were attending Wednesday night church services, the mayor and city council were busy finalizing a despicable plot to bypass the law and desecrate a Civil War gravesite.

In October the Tennessee Historical Commission refused to allow city leaders to remove statues of Nathan Bedford Forrest and Jefferson Davis from two city parks. The city initiated mediation with the state, but that too, was unsuccessful.

Instead of following the ruling, the mayor and the city council concocted a nefarious plan to disobey the law and take down the statues in the dark of night.

Here’s how it happened:

Russia ‘Dossier’ Based on 10-Year-Old Wall Street Journal

 Glenn Simpson of Fusion GPS

Lee Smith of Tablet magazine has traced the origins of the Russia “dossier” — the Democrat-funded opposition research project that may have laid the foundations for the ongoing Russia investigation — to several Wall Street Journal articles that appeared in print a decade ago.

Smith’s article, “Did President Obama Read the ‘Steele Dossier’ in the White House Last August?”, suggests that the information compiled by opposition research firm Fusion GPS, with funding from Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee, could have been repackaged as genuine U.S. government intelligence and presented to President Barack Obama on that basis as his administration began investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Smith recounts how the “dossier” likely prompted the surveillance and investigation of aides to Donald Trump by the Obama administration, and efforts to delegitimize the incoming administration.
He notes:
[I]f a sitting president used the instruments of state, including the intelligence community, to disseminate and legitimize a piece of paid opposition research in order to first obtain warrants to spy on the other party’s campaign, and then to de-legitimize the results of an election once the other party’s candidate won, we’re looking at a scandal that dwarfs Watergate—a story not about a bad man in the White House, but about the subversion of key security institutions that are charged with protecting core elements of our democratic process while operating largely in the shadows.

".......a squaw would serve as a wet-nurse and so the pup grew up thinking he was a person—not a wolf!"

Reading on the Abbeville site articles about the South and the West, I was reminded of my newspaper piece on Florida as the Wild Wild (South) East, which had a popular run.  It was inspired by a Frederic Remington article describing his adventures in Florida with cowboys in the 1880s.   Our county (Marion, named for Gen. Francis Marion) was as big as all Rhode Island.  It was big cattle country when we first moved there in 1956.  You’d see working cowboys in worn boots and stained stetsons on the square.

Remington’s article had been loaned to me by the postmaster of Oklawaha  (p.o. was a mile from our house), Willie Willis, who had arrived in the era in 1912 when the cowboy culture was alive and well.  “Why I saw them right out that door”  (pointing to main entrance).  “They would ride the most dreadful horses, absolutely ‘varmints’…”  (not surprising since their ponies existed off wiregrass) “and they always carried their long whips over their left shoulders with the ends trailing on the ground.”

Catalonia election: Separatists regain control of parliament, reopening crisis with Madrid

People react to results in Catalonia's regional elections.

Catalonia's separatist leader Carles Puigdemont has regained leadership of the region, with pro-independence parties taking a majority in regional parliament elections.

The result is a blow to Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, who sacked Mr Puigdemont two months ago for holding an independence referendum, reigniting Spain's worst political crisis in decades.

According to the final results, the separatist parties claimed 70 seats in the 135-seat assembly.

Facebook Scraps ‘Disputed’ Fake News Tag, Claims ‘Opposite Effect to What We Intended

 Facebook

Social media giant Facebook will no longer be marking news stories as “disputed” because the company says people are more likely to believe possibly inaccurate news stories carrying the tag.

Business Insider UK reports that Facebook will no longer be marking news stories with a “disputed” tag, a measure introduced this year in an attempt to crack down on “fake news” on their platform.

The tag was meant to make Facebook users question the source of the information they were reading, however, most users seemed to double down on believing the information in “disputed” articles due to the tag assigned by Facebook.

Find the Alabama: Thunderous Naval Combat—Valor and Honor: Part 4 of 5

 WNY 10 Apr 10 414

150 years ago today… one lucky misfire! CSS Alabama vs. USS Kearsarge

 And it is still there:

Had that shell, fired from a Blakely rifle on the CSS Alabama, exploded in the USS Kearsarge‘s sternpost, the outcome of the action would have been different.   The gun that fired it….

…was recovered from the wreck in the 1990s.

As the Kearsarge turned back toward shore, she was heading straight for the oncoming Alabama.

When the two ships were about a mile apart, the Alabama suddenly sheered to port and opened fire on her adversary with a starboard broadside. Semmes hoped to make some disabling hits, but at least to get the Kearsarge leaning away so he could run up alongside and grapple and board her. But the Confederate gunners overcompensated for their ship’s starboard list and the shells exploded harmlessly overhead the Kearsarge.

The Kearsarge waited until she was within a thousand yards, and then she began to fire. Because the Kearsarge was faster and more maneuverable, the Alabama was unable to get in close. Now the ships were firing starboard broadside to starboard broadside, circling clockwise around a common center.

The range tightened from 900 to 400 yards, but the Alabama could not close on the Yankee warship.

They circled seven times in this dance of death, booming away the whole time. The echoes reverberated for seventy miles across the English Channel, even as far as Bristol.

The eleven-inch Dahlgren guns began to take a heavy toll on the Alabama, splintering and slicing its wooden bulwarks and causing many casualties. A direct hit to the aft pivot gun, one of the two most potent Confederate weapons, killed or wounded all but one of its gun-crew.

The Bundy Affair #24 FBI and Prosecution Conspire to Falsify Evidence

In identifying the Misdeeds of Government, it requires a diligent search of available information.  However, often that research produces some interesting results.  That is the situation with this article, since it begins with events surrounding the arrest of Dave Bundy (The Bundy Affair – #12 – Dave Bundy’s Two Citations), on April 6, 2014, and ends with the declaration of Mistrial on Decembers 20, 2017.  However, in that span of time, over three and a half years, the following events played out.

Dave Bundy was pulled over on Nevada State Highway 170, a road that goes from Interstate 15, near the road to the Bundy Ranch, to Bunkerville.  The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) had attempted to close the highway.

Dave got into a dispute with the BLM and was arrested and charged with two citations (explained in the linked article above).  It is this arrest that begins this series of events.  First, we have, from the National Park Service “DIRECTOR’S ORDER #9: LAW ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM”, which, on page 2, explains when and where arrests may be made.

Executive Order Blocking the Property of Persons Involved in Serious Human Rights Abuse or Corruption

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.) (IEEPA), the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.) (NEA), the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act (Public Law 114-328) (the “Act”), section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 (8 U.S.C. 1182(f)) (INA), and section 301 of title 3, United States Code,

I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, find that the prevalence and severity of human rights abuse and corruption that have their source, in whole or in substantial part, outside the United States, such as those committed or directed by persons listed in the Annex to this order, have reached such scope and gravity that they threaten the stability of international political and economic systems. Human rights abuse and corruption undermine the values that form an essential foundation of stable, secure, and functioning societies; have devastating impacts on individuals; weaken democratic institutions; degrade the rule of law; perpetuate violent conflicts; facilitate the activities of dangerous persons; and undermine economic markets. The United States seeks to impose tangible and significant consequences on those who commit serious human rights abuse or engage in corruption, as well as to protect the financial system of the United States from abuse by these same persons.

Year One List: 81 major Trump achievements, 11 Obama legacy items repealed

Via Billy

With the passage of the GOP tax bill this week, the Trump administration has scored 81 major achievements in its first year, making good on campaign promises to provide significant tax cuts, boost U.S. energy production, and restore respect to the United States, according to the White House.
And along the way, President Trump even outdid his own expectations and slashed at least 11 major legacy items of former President Barack Obama, including cracking down on the open border, slowing recognition of communist Cuba and effectively killing Obamacare by ending the mandate that everyone have health insurance or face a tax.

Law-Abiding Citizens

How long before the Democrats/communists start carrying around Constitutions in their pockets and waving them at Donald Trump? In the past few weeks the leftists have all sounded more like the Tea Party than anything else, arguing that the Mueller investigation into collusion is some sort of Constitutionally guaranteed process that Donald Trump had better not interfere with, or he will be hounded out of office by raging mobs of Antifa, BLM and Hollywood stars.

Eric Holder, mastermind of such great examples of Constitutionality like Waco and Fast and Furious, who is the only American Attorney General to be held in contempt of Congress, threatened to unleash the power of Antifa on America's streets should Donald Trump fire Mueller. This is seditious, it is the ultimate threat of domestic insurrection. No laws have been violated by Trump, the Constitution has not been violated and since a Special Counsel is highly suspect as a Constitutional act itself, there are no grounds for unleashing such insurrection other than to take control of the government.

We are watching the initial steps of the Civil War everyone has seen coming for years, (especially Matt Bracken) led by the officials of the previous administration.

Oh, Obama accomplished so much more.

The Economy:
Only President to NEVER achieve a 3% GDP growth.
Only President to preside over a cut to the credit rating of the United States.
Only President to abrogate bankruptcy law to turn over control of companies to his union supporters.
Only President to apply for college aid as a foreign student, then deny he was a foreigner.
Only President to have a social security number from a state he has never lived in.
Only President to give a pass to giant banks that caused the economy to crash.

Foreign policy:
Only President to be called a pussy.
Only President to give over ONE Billion dollars to a terrorist nation.
Only President to free FIVE terrorists for a deserter.

And the Rest:
Only President to sell guns to drug cartels
Only President to terminate Americas ability to put a man in space.
Only President to have a law signed by an auto-pen without being present.
Only President to hide his medical, educational and travel records.
Only President to publicly bow to Americas enemies while refusing to salute the U.S. Flag.
Only President to have 22 personal servants (taxpayer funded) for his wife.
Only President to repeat “the Holy Qur’an tells us,” and openly admit “the early morning call of the Azan (Islamic call to worship) is the most beautiful sound on earth.”
Only President to appoint 45 Czars to replace elected officials in his office.

And so much more, but I can only stomach so much.

 WMC-5:

Lee Millar from Sons of Confederate Veterans was on WMC Action News 5 to talk about the statues being removed.

Millar said his group believes the city is breaking the law by removing the statues.

“I think it’s a disgusting display by the city council and by the mayor to destroy some of Memphis history, especially this sham of a sale. We’re not through fighting,” Millar said.

Millar said he was not at liberty to say what the next move the Sons of Confederate Veterans will take, but said there will be imminent action.

“The city cannot sell land without a hearing, bidding it out and permitting other opportunities for others to do so,” Millar said. “But by selling it to a non-profit or anybody else, that’s a clear violation of the Heritage Protection Law.”

Millar said the actions were a blatant attempt to circumvent the law, violating state cemetery law because the statue is the headstone of the graves of Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife.

".....my friend Mike does fail to note that the doubling of the standard deduction (an extra $12,000 deductible) may largely, if not completely, offset his $ 7-8k estimated loss of local tax deductibility (see email below).   I suspect he, like many others including myself,  may switch to using the short form and not itemize 2018's tax return. I'll let him know and you should also be made aware of it too, because Fake News, especially locally in NYC and other blue state 'low-info zones,' will likely try to keep you in the dark about it or minimize it by emphasizing only those who will see a tax increase. You know how they like to make a point by finding an individual who has a good sob story to tell and then fail to mention it is the exception and not the norm. That's how they manipulate public opinion.  The public's heart strings get the fiddle treatment and that's how they manage to convince so many people to act not only against their own instincts, but even against their own interests (you can use the black community as the best example of that). It is the Kool-Ade that too many drink.

I hope you don't have ill effects from the new tax code changes, but even if you do, you can take some comfort in knowing that most taxpayers in the US will see a reduction in their taxes and that's a good thing for them and for our nation as a whole. Trump's policies have this economy on fire like it hasn't been since before 9/11 and with the tax code changes on the business side, it may even get back to the roaring 80's when Reagan's tax cuts had the GDP growing by >4% in some quarters. This coming year-end quarter may already be there."

My congressman Walter B. Jones of North Carolina isn't from a failing blue state, though.

I don't blame them for voting against it if they have their constituents in mind.  I'll personally lose about $7,000-$8,000 (maybe more) in tax deductions, which means I'll get a tax increase, not a tax break.

Yup... these Republicans... are from blue states with irresponsible fiscal policies, like NJ.  Can't blame red states for supporting the bill... why should they be subsidizing NY, NJ, CA, etc. via higher taxes because these blue state people can deduct their local and state taxes from their federal tax bill.  Our property taxes are used to pay for schools...  but lots of our money gets siphoned off and sent to "urban" districts, where the people living there pay peanuts in property tax (it's added to their subsidized rent payment).  I consider this fiscal abuse against those who live in the suburbs, like me.

Newark gets about $25,000 per student for school spending... Mendham gets about $15,000 per student, yet are paying thru the nose via property taxes.   Adding insult to injury:  there are 640 school districts in NJ... about 40 Abbott districts (urban) and about 600 "regular" districts.  The 40 Abbott districts get 75% of of state school funding, and the remaining 600 regular districts have to share the remaining 25% of state school funding.  Christie tried to change this to make it more equitable... but the Democratic-controlled state legislature blocked it.  Fiscal irresponsibility and abuse if you're not in an urban area.... 'gravy train' if you are.

People living in red states ( the MAJORITY of the country), which are fiscally responsible and not fiscally abusive (like NJ) will get a nice tax break.  Those of of us in NJ, NY, MA, CA, and others etc etc will have to pay the price for electing liberal high tax Democrats to state & local office... people who are fiscally irresponsible and abusive.  If the tax plan is good for the bulk country but bad for NJ-NY, etc, where do I stand?  Tough question.  Unfortunately, it's pie-in-the-sky-head-up-the-ass bullshit thinking that the effect on blue state taxes will provide rationale for blue state citizens to suddenly rise up and demand these blue states change their tax and fiscal policies...  HAHA!  Once a politician gets an income stream, it never goes away.

I got an email from my Rep.Rodney F. saying why  he was voting against the bill... for exactly the rationale above.

'Nuff said.

Vietnamese Priest Accuses Police Of Letting Communists Ransack Nativity Display

 Nativity

A Vietnamese Catholic priest accused police of intentionally allowing a communist gang to destroy a church nativity scene that government authorities wanted to remove.

Father Dominic Pham Xuan Ke of Dong Kieu church in Vietnam alleged that police allowed a communist gang known as the “red flag group” to destroy the church’s nativity scene after parishioners refused to remove it, according to Express. Church parishioners and neighboring congregations rallied to defend the nativity after government authorities told the church to remove the display and claimed that it was on disputed land.

“We strongly oppose their illegal and unreasonable demand,” one parishioner said in response to the government order, according to UCA News.

Church leadership claimed that they set their nativity display on church property and therefore had a right to keep it.

Xuan Ke alleged that the red flag group threatened violence against the nativity display and that police did nothing to prevent them from carrying out their threat. Vandals attacked the church’s Christmas displays Dec. 13, shortly after government officials demanded they be removed. Attackers smashed Christmas lights and other elements of the display along the road to the church.

Xuan Ke held a special mass at the church the day after the attack as parishioners and members of nearby congregations gathered for a demonstration in defense of the nativity display.

“Why do authorities here ban erecting nativities?” Xuan Ke asked, according to Express.

The laws governing religious freedom in Vietnam are complicated, as the country’s constitution states that every citizen has the right to believe and practice whichever faith they choose, while individual laws allow the government to severely restrict and regulate religious practices, according to the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Vietnam. The Vietnamese government permitted the establishment of a Catholic institution in the country in 2016 for the first time since 1975.

The dominant media narrative, of course, is that Trump hasn’t gotten much done, that he’s in over his head, that he doesn’t understand government, that he keeps picking petty fights rather than winning big battles.

According to a notice published by Hengyang Public Security Bureau on December 14, Party officials in Hengyang should "resist the rampant Western festival."

Their close relatives are also forbidden from participating in celebration of these festivals so as to build a good image of Party officials.

The notice also encouraged students to hold a rational attitude toward these festivals and stay away from them.

It added that anyone who sells and makes artificial snow during that time will receive a heavy fine.
