Goodies From O'l Remus, Back Again

North Korea's armed-up threats and other scary events have generated a wave of new preppers

Enter the words "American inventors" at Google , then hit "Images". Wow. Who knew? (And/or hit Caucasian/White American Inventors!  Hilarious!)

Graybeard Outdoors - Be skeptical of Ken Burns’ documentary: The Vietnam War (No, just ignore it. Been there, done that, forget that.)

NY Post - The NFL is praying for a ratings turnaround ... nine of the 13 NFL windows in the season-to-date posted viewership declines

Reality bites, Amerika - Affirmative Action is worse than officially sanctioned state-sponsored “racism.” It is also corrupt, inefficient and stupid. You cannot undo the stupid with another layer of stupid. Affirmative Action is nothing except a fraud and a lie. Grifters and Card-Sharps use it to steal money, status and honor based on drummed-up racial guilt trips. It can never work because no administrative state in world history has ever been able to change human nature. From Nebuchadnezzer on forward, every attempt at anything resembling an affirmative action program has failed.

Show biz, Front Page - The numbers don't lie. Across the entertainment industry, viewers and fans are tuning out. It's no coincidence ratings are cratering as unhinged celebrities crank up their anti-American antics. Hollywood's revenue plunged nearly 16 percent over last year, the steepest decline in modern times. MTV's 10th annual awards show was the least-watched one in its history, the fourth year in a row that the network has seen a decline in the crown jewel of its annual calendar. Al Gore's man-made disaster scraped up less than $3.5 million in domestic receipts. The football field is now a minefield of social justice causes. Viewership at the start of the 2017 regular season was down 13 percent.

Affirmative action, American Thinker - Make no mistake: affirmative action is on the defensive now. The hysteria in response to advocacy of bourgeois values is a tell, as is Maxine Waters unintentionally revealing the nagging price affirmative action takes on the psyches of its purported beneficiaries, the entirely natural response to receiving preference in a competition. And when it is combined with admission to a campus where the “beneficiary” is unable to compete with students scoring hundreds of points higher on SATs it often results in blaming “racism” for all of one’s problems. Affirmative action was an experiment, one that has failed on the basis of 50 years of experience.

Bomb Throwers - Mainstream political polls commit fraud, use up to 58 percent more Democrats than Republicans ... more voters support conservative ideas and policies than claimed

American Red Cross Asks ARRL’s Assistance with Puerto Rico Relief Effort

arrl is passing the request from the red cross for 50 operators with their gear go to puerto rico for three weeks to send back  names for wellness reports.  sounds like electricity and phone service is not going to be restored anytime soon.  normally, and historically, in the past the navy and the army has sent people and equipment to get things running until some level of local services can be restored.  and even if the government says they're doing what they can for that little island, there just probably won't be much improvement for months.  this is what happens when a cat 5 washes your tropical paradise clean. especially if, like haiti, it was one big shanty town to start with.

with the arrl soliciting operators on behalf of the red cross, it looks like fema, and the military are not the first line of expertise going in.   the dead give-away is they're not asking for mars mod radio equipment, just hf ssb and psk for winlink.  and three weeks would only be the first wave if there is no plan b from other sources.  i know fema can set up their own satellite link and provide cell, and internet for their own little cluster of first responders, but maybe they're already stretched thin and can't go either.  i'm waiting for mountain house freeze dried foods to go into short supply.  last time fema did something on a large scale, they contracted from mountain house their total output for a year.  dried up everything.

not sure who is going to provide security for these volunteers.  therein lies another contracting possibility.  eric prince could not be contacted for comment.......

Jeff Sessions: NFL players who refuse to stand for national anthem haven't 'thought it through'

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said NFL players who have declined to stand for the national anthem in protest have not thought through why they are doing so.

"What you think it's about?" Fox News host Tucker Carlson asked Sessions regarding the recent protests. "Why do you think that some of the most successful people in our society would be taking a public stand against symbols of the country itself?"

"First, my thought is they haven't thought it through," Sessions responded. "They haven't realized that what they are doing is actually demeaning the country, not some politicians that they disagree with.

Not some issue that they feel strongly about. How is that the right way to express such a view? You should be able to articulate your view, advocate your view, defend your view against people who disagree."

Moore wins Alabama primary

Former Alabama judge Roy Moore has won the state’s Republican Senate runoff, a victory that sends an ominous message to Republicans and hands President Trump his first electoral loss since taking office.

The former state Supreme Court justice’s reputation as a conservative firebrand won him the enthusiasm of the party grassroots, even as Strange and his allies outspent him by a staggering margin. Moore stormed ahead to what appears to be a convincing win thanks to that support—he was ahead by a margin of 57 percent to 43 percent when the Associated Press called the result at about 9:30 ET.

Now that the GOP’s insurgent wing has taken its first Republican incumbent scalp, establishment Republicans now have to reckon with what that means for the party’s future.

Viet Nam: Fact vs Fiction

Re-post NamSouth 2009 & FNC 2012

"I found this article very interesting. The most notable fact is that
2.7 million Americans actually served in the Vietnam Theater of war.
In the last census nearly 14 million Americans claimed they served in
Vietnam.
Four out of five are lying. I wonder why."

Vietnam Fact vs Fiction

For over 30 years I....like many Vietnam veterans....seldom spoke of
Vietnam , except with other veterans, when training soldiers, and in
public speeches. These past five years I have joined the hundreds of
thousands who believe it is high time the truth be told about the
Vietnam War and the people who served there. It's time the American
people learn that the United States military did not lose the War, and
that a surprisingly high number of people who claim to have served
there, in fact, DID NOT. As Americans, support the men and women
involved in the War on Terrorism, the mainstream media are once again
working tirelessly to undermine their efforts and force a
psychological loss or stalemate for the United States .

We cannot stand by and let the media do to today's warriors what they
did to us 35 years ago. Below are some assembled facts most readers
will find interesting. It isn't a long read, but it will, I guarantee, teach you
some things you did not know about the Vietnam War and those who served,
fought, or died there. Please share it with those with whom you communicate.

DirecTV Experiences Wave of Cancellations Amid NFL National Anthem Protests, Allows Some Refunds

DirecTV customer service representatives said Tuesday they are allowing some customers to cancel their subscriptions and obtain refunds for the Sunday Ticket package of NFL games if they cite players' protests of the national anthem as their reason for cancellation.

Sunday Ticket's policy does not allow refunds after the season has started, but the representatives said they are making an exception this season due to players kneeling, sitting, or linking arms before games for the anthem, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Football draws the biggest television audience out of all American sports and is a huge, sometime vital, income source for major media companies. Sunday Ticket, which costs around $280 per season per customer, brings in $1.5 billion a year in licensing revenue for DirecTV, the Journal noted.
Any cancellations risk further damage to the NFL as the league experiences comparatively low television ratings this season.

Planned Parenthood Wins Right to Keep Aborting Babies with Down Syndrome

 Women

An Indiana judge has found for abortion giant Planned Parenthood in a suit brought against HEA 1337, a state law banning gender-selective abortions and those based on a prenatal diagnosis of disabilities such as Down syndrome.

U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Walton Pratt, an Obama appointee, has issued a permanent injunction against Indiana’s “Sex Selective and Disability Abortion Ban” in a 22-page decision, saying that provisions of the law “violate the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.”

HEA 1337 was signed into law in 2016 by Governor and now Vice President Mike Pence, and prohibited abortions based on the sex or race of the child or a prenatal diagnosis of “Down syndrome or any other disability.” The law also required that the remains of aborted babies be disposed of in a dignified fashion proper to human remains, rather than merely thrown out in the trash.

Southern Reconstruction

A review of Southern Reconstruction by Philip Leigh (Westholme, 2017).

@ Amazon

Confronting the establishment narrative about any historical topic can be a perilous endeavor. There are several that present such large minefields that most historians dare not attempt to cross, among them the “Civil War,” Reconstruction, and the Civil Rights movement. Bucking the accepted version of events in any of those fields is a death knell for the professional historian. Fortunately, those rules don’t apply to the “amateur” class, and Philip Leigh has proven to be one of the more promising and objective of that group. His recent tome, Southern Reconstruction, offers the best summary of the political, economic, and social dynamics of Reconstruction since William A. Dunning’s masterful turn of the century study, a work that for political reasons has been castigated by the historical establishment but never entirely refuted.

A federal investigation into the "dark underbelly" of college basketball exposed bribery schemes in which coaches at top programs took cash to steer star athletes to certain managers and helped funnel payoffs to players' families to ensure they signed with particular schools, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Some of the biggest names in college sports — from Adidas to the University of Louisville — were caught up in the probe, which began in 2015 with the help of a fallen financial adviser who agreed to wear a wire for the feds.

Acting U.S. Attorney Joon Kim said the FBI and prosecutors set out to investigate the "dark underbelly of college basketball" and found a pay-to-play culture flourishing.

Another Poll Shows Americans Aren't Big Fans of Anthem Protests

One of the most striking elements of the NFL anthem protest controversy is the glaring disconnect between average Americans -- especially sports fans -- and the media covering the story.  Airwaves and column inches are disproportionately crowded with pro-protest (and anti-Trump) perspectives, whereas most non-elite observers come down on the other side of the issue.  It's reminiscent of the 2016 election dynamic, in which the overwhelming majority of the media was horrified by Donald Trump and convinced he had virtually no chance of winning.  They were unable or unwilling to understand the range of sentiments and motivations that inspired tens of millions of voters to cast ballots for him, so they found themselves morose and scrambling after he won.

Today, we're watching something of a rerun, except the canyon between the press and the people is even wider here.

Trump to set refugee cap at lowest level since caps were put in place: report

The Trump administration is planning to lower the cap for refugee admissions to 45,000 — its lowest point since the U.S. began setting the limits in 1980.

The Wall Street Journal reported the proposed cap on Tuesday, but said the number will not be finalized until President Trump confers with members of Congress on Wednesday.

NC: Wilson still tops in tobacco

Via Cousin John

Business is conducted around bales of tobacco at the Big M Tobacco warehouse in Wilson last week. Wilson is still considered to be the undisputed leader in tobacco sales in the country and a major player on the world market. Drew C. Wilson | Times

Tobacco may be on track to regain the top-earner spot among Wilson County’s agricultural crops this year, surpassing sweet potatoes, greenhouses and nurseries.

Growers have benefited from good weather, resulting in a high-quality leaf to offer buyers.

In 2016, greenhouses and nurseries earned nearly $48 million to take the top position, but a reorganization at Gardens Alive, formerly Zelenka, the largest nursery in the county, may mean sales could be lower while the business rebuilds. Sweet potatoes earned $44.3 million in 2016, but prices have been lower due to high numbers of potatoes on the market and lower demand.

Tobacco had $37 million in 2016 sales due in large part to less than optimum-quality leaf from poor weather conditions.

Bannon to Alabama: 'They think you're a pack of morons'

Via Billy

Steve Bannon is pictured. | AP Photo

Steve Bannon declared war on the GOP establishment at a raucous rally in Alabama ahead of Tuesday's special Senate election.

Steve Bannon barreled onstage at a raucous rally inside a barn here to deliver a warning to the national Republican establishment ahead of Tuesday’s special Senate election: I’m just getting started.

In a thundering 20-minute speech Monday night that was partly a rally for insurgent Senate candidate Roy Moore but equally a declaration of war on the Republican Party hierarchy, Bannon made clear that this next act of his political career could make the Republican civil war of recent years look tame.

“For Mitch McConnell and Ward Baker and Karl Rove and Steven Law — all the instruments that tried to destroy Judge Moore and his family — your day of reckoning is coming,” Bannon said, referring to the Republican Senate leader and a trio of prominent GOP strategists backing incumbent Sen. Luther Strange. “But more important, for the donors who put up the [campaign] money and the corporatists that put up the money, your day of reckoning is coming, too.”

Zinke: 30 Percent of the Interior Department Is Not Loyal to Trump

Via Billy

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke

Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke said about 30 percent of his department is not loyal to him and the man who appointed him, President Donald Trump.

Speaking to the National Petroleum Council, Zinke prioritized deregulation but said the administration’s efforts are meeting resistance from within the department, the AP reports. He used the metaphor of the Interior Department as a pirate crew divided about what to do when it captures a ship.

"I got 30 percent of the crew that’s not loyal to the flag," Zinke said. He explained that he knew the department of 70,000 was not loyal to the Trump administration when he assumed the job in March.
He said Interior was like pirates seizing "a prized ship at sea and only the captain and the first mate row over" to take control of it. He stressed the message that the department needs a culture change to become more business-friendly overall.

"There’s too many ways in the present process for someone who doesn’t want to get [a regulatory action] done to put it a holding pattern," Zinke said.

Chuck Grassley lambasts FBI for 'gag order' on watchdog investigation into James Comey's firing

Via Billy

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley lambasted the FBI for what he called a "gag order" in preventing his panel from getting crucial information on oversight into fired FBI director James Comey.

"It's a serious threat to this oversight committee's authority," the Iowa Republican said at the beginning of Tuesday's hearing on the separation of power and two bills to protect special counsel Robert Mueller.

Grassley specifically mentioned what he called a "deal" made between the FBI and the Office of Special Counsel, an independent governmental watchdog agency that prosecutes violations of four specific federal statutes.

Hit Em Where it Hurts

Via comment by Badger  on NFL Backlash: ‘Sunday Night Football’ Hit With Sea...

The dragon awakes! Americans, for too long have ignored the leftist, communist march, of politicians, news media, Hollywood, television, and so many more. This is a good example, along with what is happening to the NFL.

For this election, (Moore-Strange?) my guess is Trump listened to some GOP “handler” for a recommendation. But the people are pissed, and tired of what had happened and continues to happen. As I’ve said, Trump voters are not GOP supporters. They are Americans tired of being feed crap and told it is steak. The truth is out there, republican or democrat doesn’t matter, American citizens get screwed by both.

There is an awakening of Americans. Americans of all colors and religions. They see both parties are working for interests, and not interests that benefit America or its citizens. They see the politicians, they elected, working for illegals, and terrorist groups, such as Black Lives Matter. They see politicians caring more about helping every other nation in the world, before helping American citizens. I believe President Trump is our last chance, before an open Civil War begins. Look how passionately, the GOP undermines and attacks President Trump. That should tell you all you need to know about the swamp.

NFL: Take the Pledge

All that is necessity is to stand quietly.  Hand over your heart or saying the Pledge is not necessary.  That is what I do.

Would those who have been kneeling during the National Anthem take the Pledge of Allegiance? If an American refuses to take the Pledge of Allegiance it means that they do not accept the fact that America is a Republic, a nation under God, based on the goals of liberty and freedom for all, and/or indivisible. By taking the Pledge, someone is not saying that America has always done the right thing; they are rather acknowledging that America is a place that strives to do the right thing, and where there is freedom to protest and speak your mind. And where young men have the opportunity to make a lot of money playing a game.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions plans to declare freedom of speech is “under attack” at American colleges and universities, during an address Tuesday taking aim at political correctness run amok on campus.

Sessions plans to tackle the hot-button issue of free speech on campus at Georgetown University Law Center, following a series of clashes at Berkeley and beyond over conservative speakers.

“Freedom of thought and speech on the American campus are under attack,” Sessions plans to say, according to excerpts obtained in advance by Fox News. “Whereas the American University was once the center of academic freedom – a place of robust debate, a forum for the competition of ideas – it is transforming into an echo chamber of political correctness and homogenous thought, a shelter for fragile egos.”
