Judge allows Bergdahl to be charged for endangering comrades, faces life in prison

Via Billy

A military officer testified that he saw Sgt. First Class Mark Allen (pictured) shot in the head during the 2009 search for U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. (How about an eye for an eye?)

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The military judge overseeing Army Sgt. Bowe  case says prosecutors can try the soldier on a rare charge alleging he endangered comrades by walking off his post in Afghanistan in 2009.

The judge, Col. Jeffery Nance, rejected a defense motion on Thursday to dismiss the charge of misbehavior before the enemy, which carries up to a life sentence.

On June 21, a former Navy Seal testified that his military career ended when he was shot in the leg during a hastily planned mission to find Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl after the soldier left his post in Afghanistan.

also faces a desertion charge, punishable by up to 5 years, at trial in October.

Radio Direction Finding and transmitter location, as an amateur radio exercise, is called “Fox Hunting”.  For several decades this exercise has been a weekend’s entertainment for young and old alike.  In this demonstration, a miniature transmitter will be used as a weak source of a 443 Mhz beacon signal, and two types of small hand-held directional antennas will be used to show how to locate it’s position.   Details on constructing your own directional antennas and where this particular transmitter can be purchased will be provided.  A practical application for where you would deploy the small transmitter for others to locate is left to you.

This July 4, I pledge allegiance. It took two wars to make me an American.

Via John

Thuan Le Elston's family in front of the refugee tent in 1975 at Camp Pendleton north of San Diego. (I used to visit here quite often as I lived in San Clemente after the Fall and worked at ETMCAS.)

When did I, a daughter of Vietnam, become an American?

It wasn’t 1975, when our family fled the fall of Saigon and rebuilt in Phoenix. Not in 1982, the year on our U.S. citizenship certificates. It wasn’t when I married a punk-rock fan. Not even after we had kids and asked our parents to live with us in a bicultural, multigenerational household outside Washington, D.C.

What finally Americanized me was a vote I cast in July 2007.

Why did it take three decades? Wouldn’t a child of 9, even hardly speaking English, assimilate quickly in American schools? Isn’t that what immigrants fear, their children losing their language and heritage?

It’s true that teachers and classmates were so helpful, I progressed quickly from spelling everybody “evryparty” to acing report cards. Girls asked me to sleepovers. Neighborhood kids filled our yard. I fit in. Until puberty, when it’s human nature to start asking ourselves that all self-absorbing question: Who am I?

Answer: a political refugee. My family didn’t leisurely choose to leave Vietnam, debating when and where. We were not economic or tourist migrants. This was a matter of survival: Because Dad was a former South Vietnamese officer and an editor of an English-language weekly, if we stayed the incoming communist government would have sent him to “re-education” work camps, just as it did to my uncles who were taken prisoners at the front. The new regime would have punished Mom not only because of her husband but also for her siblings who served in the South Vietnamese military, who worked at the U.S. Embassy, who married American soldiers.

East Central University said they will remove crosses, Bibles and other religious symbols from a campus chapel to appease a bunch of out-of-town agitators.

It’s unclear when the Oklahoma school will commence with the Christian cleansing of the Kathryn P. Boswell Memorial Chapel. The chapel opened in 1957.

“We will continue to use the building as we always have, for all faiths,” ECU President Katricia Pierson said in a statement to the Ada News. “We do not want to presume to embrace one faith over another. We support all cultures and attempt to make them comfortable when they are here.”

The university’s president went on to say they are “looking at the feasibility of removing the cross on the steeple, but need to respond to the request for removal of religious icons from the chapel.”

John McWhorter, a black author of race relations and associate professor at Columbia University, criticized racially segregated safe spaces and the suppression of speech on college campuses during a discussion in Colorado this week.

Mr. McWhorter joined New York Times columnist Frank Bruni Thursday at the Aspen Ideas Festival in a discussion published by The Atlantic, which co-hosted the event with The Aspen Institute. Mr. McWhorter, a linguist who teaches English and comparative literature at Columbia, argued that the current “assault on free speech” sweeping college campuses can be blamed on social media, not President Trump.

Trump to aggressive reporters in Oval Office: 'You guys are getting worse'

Via Billy

President Trump told some aggressive reporters who were in the Oval Office to cover his meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in to calm down on Friday after they apparently hit a table.
Off camera, commotion could be heard between reporters in the Oval Office preparing to cover the remarks. Both South Korean and American press were in attendance.

"Easy fellas," Trump said amid the commotion. "Hey fellas. Fellas, easy. Fellas, easy."

He added: "You guys are getting worse."

Trump then said the reporters had knocked a table in the Oval Office. Trump's longtime body guard, Keith Schiller, could be seen catching a lamp and adjusting a small table.

"They knocked the table down," Trump said. "It's actually a very friendly press, don't let that get you. Although we just lost the table."

“Free People of Color” in Dixie

This article is the abbreviated address that I made at the Upcountry Literary Festival 2017, at the University of South Carolina, in Union South, Carolina.

Some people come for the land down under (Australia). I come from the land where old times are not forgotten.

I started my presentation by singing the old spiritual entitled, Wade in the Water, God’s Gonne Trouble the Water. This song is part of our cultural southern music heritage which reaches back into antebellum and perhaps colonial times. I heard it song a lot in my childhood and I was always left asking myself, “Why the hell would you wade in the water if you know God’s going to trouble the water?” Later when I was older I realized that it’s a partition for you to venture forth on an act of faith.

A few weeks ago when I opened with that song, a lady in the audience gave me the biblical scripture from which the song takes its inspiration, John 5:1-9. In that story, it is troubled waters that have the power of healing. So in that spirit, what I write may trouble the water for some of us but I’m hoping that you will remember that troubled waters can be healing waters.

However, before we dive into those “troubled waters” there is another verse from the song entitled, The Yankees Came to Baldwin that I’d like you to keep in mind which goes as follows, “Jeff Davis is a gentleman, Abe Lincoln is a fool. Jeff Davis rides a dapple gray, Abe Lincoln rides a mule.” You should see the looks on the faces of elementary school children when I sing that line. I then say to them, “point of view children, it’s all about point of view.”

American Independence Won In The South

Via Billy

http://www.carolana.com/NC/Revolution/Images/Battle_of_Guilford_Court_House_1781.jpg

In snow shoe mouth deep they came that 27th day of September 1780, a long column of mounted riflemen full of wrath and anger. The long slender rifles of the frontier (aka Flintlock American Long Rifle, Pennsylvania Rifle, Kentucky Rifle) were balanced across their saddles and knives strapped on their belts. They were "Over Mountain Men" from western North Carolina in the area that would later become northeast Tennessee in 1796. Several years earlier they had formed little settlements along the Watauga, Holston, and Nolichunky rivers on the western side of the Appalachian mountains.

The Revolutionary War for American Independence had not affected them until earlier in this year and due to their remote location they were virtually independent of British and American government. But the war in the north which had been ongoing since 1775 had been fought to a stalemate. Now England had decided upon a Southern Strategy and the war moved from the north to the south. Georgia, the youngest and weakest of the 13 American colonies had fallen to the British with the capture of Savannah on Dec. 29,1778. The British and their loyalist American Tory forces had moved into South Carolina and American Continentals and Whig militia patriots had suffered devastating defeats at Charleston, Waxhaws, and Camden.

British Major Patrick Ferguson had been ordered by British General Charles Cornwallis to invade the South Carolina back country between the Catawba and Saluda rivers and recruit Loyalists and suppress Whig Patriots. Within days of his invasion of the Carolina up country Ferguson had recruited many  Loyalist Tory British sympathizers and had began to hunt down and punish Whig Patriots.  During the summer of 1780 "Over Mountain Men" militia had swept eastward and engaged Ferguson and his Loyalist Tories in fierce little engagements at Woffords Iron Works, Musgrove's Mill, Thicketty Fort, and Cedar Springs. Now they had recrossed the mountains back to their homes planning to resume resistance at a later time.

Ferguson made a decision that would prove fatal to him and his Loyalists. He paroled a Whig prisoner and sent him to inform Col. Isaac Shelby whom he considered the titular head of the "Over Mountain Men" or "Back Water Men" informing them that if they did not cease resistance to the British Crown that he would cross the mountains and hang the leaders, burn their houses, and lay waste to the area with "fire and sword". Col. Shelby met with Col.John Sevier (Nolichunky Jack) and a meeting of the mountain men took place at Sycamore Shoals on the Watauga river. A decision was made to carry the battle to Ferguson and it was to be a fight to the finish. They rode eastward, a column of about 450 men, and were joined by North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia militia and now numbered over 1000.

Ferguson and his 1100 Loyalist Tories took up a position on top of King's Mountain on the NC. and SC. line. The Patriot army had selected 900 of the best rifleman and best horses. All through the night they advanced toward King's Mountain and at 3 PM on October 7 they totally surprised the Loyalists. The Colonels on horseback horseshoed around the mountain and led the men fighting  tree to tree to the top.

Ferguson was killed and the battle was a total Patriot victory.

Then at Cowpens South Carolina on Jan.17,1781 General Daniel Morgan and American Patriots defeated British Col..Banastre Tarlton. The victories of these two battles caused a British retreat to North Carolina where the American army engaged and bloodied them severely at Guilford Courthouse. With the help of the French fleet this led to surrender by the British at Yorktown Virginia on Oct. 19, 1781. On Sept. 3, 1783 England granted Independence to each of the 13 sovereign American colonies.

The Error of Civility

 http://i.quoteaddicts.com/media/q2/926736.png

Susan Collins, Senator from Maine just tweeted that the three branches of government and the media need to be civil. Well, that's the problem, even senators consider, in some way, the media to be a part of the government. That is evident in more ways than one, it is why Republicans often betray their own base, their own constituents in order to pander to the press, to appear to be good, cooperative people at a time when the media is trying to inspire assassinations of opposing politicians.

Civility is something arrived at through mutual respect and a sense of decency, something of which the collectivists are incapable. Their whole program requires the destruction of traditional American values. They couch that in a reach all the way back to the founding, as irrational to the rest of their arguments as that is. When it comes to the Constitution, it is a rag, something we as a people have overcome and put behind us, until they decide to attack Trump with it.

Acting FBI boss McCabe referred to justice watchdog for new investigation over potential conflicts in Russia case

Via Billy

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley is demanding the Justice Department's Inspector General investigate whether acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe engaged in potential conflicts of interest during the Russia election investigation.

Grassley's request, sent Thursday night, follows new revelations that the nation's top cop is the subject of three federal inquires ranging from sexual discrimination to political conflicts of interest, all of which were ongoing during the FBI's probe into Russian election tampering that roiled the Trump administration.

The inspector general needs to investigate McCabe and the "FBI's handling of recent politically charged investigations," Grassley wrote. The inspector general has the authority to conduct criminal or administrative investigations into FBI andf Justice officials' conduct.

Photos disclosed earlier this week by Circa showed McCabe was engaged in political campaigning for his wife, Jill McCabe, who had an unsuccessful bid for Virginia State Senate in 2015. The Office of U.S. Special Counsel is now investigating McCabe's activities in his wife's campaign.

Eric Holder Sends Ominous Late Night Tweet To "Career DOJ/FBI" Employees

Via Billy
To the career men & women at DOJ/FBI: your actions and integrity will be unfairly questioned. Be prepared, be strong. Duty. Honor. Country. (What the hell, he has no idea what they mean!)

Eric Holder, Obama's former Attorney General and a man who recently hinted at an interest in pursuing a 2020 bid for the White House, issued a rather ominous warning to the "career men & women" of the DOJ/FBI last night saying that their "actions and integrity will be unfairly questioned" before calling upon them to "be prepared, be strong."
"To the career men & women at DOJ/FBI: your actions and integrity will be unfairly questioned. Be prepared, be strong. Duty. Honor. Country."

Of course, with the many scandals that plagued Obama's Justice Department, it's impossible to know exactly which one sparked Holder's warning.

Could it be the outrageous unmasking of Trump officials in the waning days of Obama's administration, an obvious attempt to exploit the collection of foreign intelligence and use it as a political weapon of mass destruction, and subsequent illegal leaking of that information to the media?  Certainly, this would seem to be a concern for Susan Rice who has been asked to testify before the House Intelligence Committee.

Or, is it a simple message directed at FBI Director McCabe who we recently pointed out is coming under increasing scrutiny for not recusing himself from the investigation of Michael Flynn, a man against whom he very clearly harbored a personal vendetta.

Or, perhaps its that whole James Comey revelation that Eric Holder's replacement, Loretta Lynch, colluded with the Hillary Clinton campaign and the FBI to quash the investigation of Hillary's email scandal.

Or, perhaps it's just a general warning after the FISA court recently revealed the the Obama administration conducted illegal queries targeting American citizens "with much greater frequency than had previously been disclosed to the Court"...an issue which it described as a "very serious Fourth Amendment issue."

Bill Creates Grace Period for Vets to Register Machine Guns

This is the original MP44/StG44 from WWII. It fired a 7.92x39mm., or 8x33 Kurz, round that was a smaller version of the German 8x57, or 8mm Mauser. The Kalashnikov, or AK-47, fires a 7.62x39 cartridge, which is a smaller version of the 7.62x54 Russian. Most people consider the StG44 the original assault rifle from which all others were fashioned, but it arrived too late in WWII to make a difference in the failed Nazi war machine.

What about Vietnam?  There are many AK47s here and quite a few were disassembled and put into various parts of stereo systems to be sent back.

Members of the House and Senate introcued a bill to give people the opportunity to register machine guns and assault rifles their grandpa brought back from either WWII or Korea.

Known as the Veterans Heritage Firearms Act, the bill would create a 180-day grace period for veterans and their family members to register firearms seized overseas before Oct. 31, 1968 without fear of prosecution.

A baby is condemned to death by socialized medicine

Charlie Gard was born in October with encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, or MDDS. It has left him crippled and with brain damage. He depends on a ventilator to keep him alive. (Family handout/PA Wire)

American liberals often gaze across the Atlantic with admiration, viewing Europe as the model for our future. They covet Europe's rail systems, green-energy subsidies, social liberalism, secularism, welfare states and government-run healthcare.

As Washington rings with cries that a Republican health reform bill would kill "hundreds of thousands of people," consider the desperately sad tale of Charlie Gard, a baby boy sentenced to die by Britain's National Health Service.

Charlie was born in October with encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, or MDDS. It has left him crippled and with brain damage. He depends on a ventilator to keep him alive.

We don't know what's best for Charlie. But we do know that the British government doesn't either. Nevertheless the NHS, installed by socialists in the last century, has decided that it will not treat Charlie anymore, although his parents desperately want to save and nuture their son.

Worse yet, and an outrage that boggles the mind, is that the NHS refuses to release Charlie into the care of his parents. Charlie's mother and father want to bring him to America for an experimental treatment that could help his body work more normally. They have even, through an appeal for charitable donations, raised enough money to bring their son here and get him treated. But the NHS has said it will not release the child, and every court has agreed.

Horrifying ISIS Story

According to an Iraqi politician, a Yazidi sex slave was unknowingly fed her murdered and cooked one-year-old son after being starved and tortured by her barbaric ISIS captors.

During a TV interview with Egypt's Extra News on Monday, Vian Dakhil, the only Yazidi member of the Iraqi parliament, described the devastating report.

“One of the women whom we managed to retrieve from ISIS said that she was held in a cellar for three days without food or water,” she said.

“Afterwards, they brought her a plate of rice and meat. She ate the food because she was very hungry,” Dakhil continued, according to a translation by Middle East Media Research Institute.

“When she was finished they said to her: ‘We cooked your 1-year-old son that we took from you, and this is what you just ate.'"

Twitter Audit Finds Fake News CNN Has 17 MILLION Fake Twitter Followers

Twitter Audit Finds Fake News CNN Has 17 MILLION Fake Twitter Followers

A recent audit of cable news network CNN’s Twitter account shows that it has 17 MILLION fake followers. Well, I suppose if you are striving to be the top name in fake news, you should also have the most amount of fake Twitter followers, right?

One of the problems with Twitter is that it is stock full of fake accounts that are used to spam people with ads. And many accounts have a lot of these fake followers, especially high profile accounts like CNN’s.

But there is a service that is able to determine how many followers connected to an account are Internet bots or fake advertising spam accounts and that service was recently used to look at CNN’s Twitter feed.
