Flak Towers

Via Cousin Joel

 New to me!
In Berlin, the flak towers were the last pockets of resistance during the final days of the war. The victorious Soviet troops had to lay siege to them with tanks and artillery, suffering heavy losses from the rooftop guns but still unable to seriously damage the structures, eventually forcing the Russians to negotiate the towers' surrender. By this time the towers were overcrowded with civilians three times their capacity and the air inside was hard to breathe.
On August 25, 1940 the first RAF raid reached Berlin with the objective of bombing Templehof Airport. The attack, an embarrassment to the Nazi regime, triggered Hitler into issuing a series of orders to strengthen the air defense of major German cities and personally drawing sketches for an anti-aircraft “fortress” with gun platforms raised above the neighboring buildings. Over the course of the next few years, eight Flakturms ("flak towers”) were built in Berlin, Hamburg and Vienna with several others in the works and similar but smaller installations elsewhere.

The heated rhetoric between the European Union (EU) and the Philippines took a wild turn on Sunday after a Duterte ally suggested European officials should “stick to child porn”.

President Rodrigo Duterte’s love affair with the Filipino people is like a jet plane that’s just taken off.
Nothing and no one can stop it right now. He is beloved. Just look at the TIME Magazine survey of Top 100 Men and Women for 2017. He is the runaway top guy at 13% with no less than the pope, a poor second at 3%. And Vladimir Putin. And Mark Zuckerberg. And Justin Trudeau. And Bill Gates.

All at 3% each.

Plus 9 out of 10 Filipinos right now approve of him.

Wrap your dim minds around that, you clowns. Nine out of ten.

Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of the Americas said the company is encouraged by the president’s economic agenda.

Ford Motor Co. will invest $1.2 billion in three Michigan facilities to prepare for production of the all-new Ford Ranger and Bronco, and to support the company’s expansion into mobility.

The company said Tuesday it will invest $850 million to retool its Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne for truck and SUV production; $150 million in its Romeo Engine Plant to expand capacity for several vehicles; and $200 million to build a data center at the company’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant.

Ford announced in January the Flat Rock facility also would see a $700 million investment and 700 new jobs to support the production of electrified and autonomous vehicles.
The total investment represents an additional $350 million above those negotiated as part of the 2015 United Auto Workers contract. Plans for the data center at Flat Rock are new; the company added $150 million to its budget for Michigan Assembly upgrades. The $150 million for the Romeo plant upgrades were previously outlined in the UAW contract. According to the contract, the automaker will invest at least $9 billion in U.S. facilities through 2019.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a court brief on Monday in support of President Trump's travel ban, along with 11 other state attorneys general and the governor of Mississippi.

Paxton's brief was filed Monday with the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. The states joining Texas in the brief include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Kansa, Louisiana, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, and West Virginia.

"Rather than leaving national security in limbo while litigation dragged on, President Trump issued a revised immigration order that addresses the 9th Circuit's concerns and is a vital step in securing our borders," Paxton said in a statement. "It is imperative we find a way to better screen refugee applicants to maintain national security. The president is fulfilling his solemn duty to protect Texans and all Americans."

Judicial Watch is taking the Environmental Protection Agency to court in an effort to pry loose information about several "environmental justice" grants doled out by the agency.

The watchdog group is seeking copies of the EPA's proposals and awards for environmental justice grants delivered in 2014 and 2015, and said it hasn't been provided with any documents yet.

"This is a simple records request and the fact that the Obama EPA ignored it for years tells you the agency has something to hide," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a press release.

The Trump administration officially put sanctuary cities on notice Monday that they are violating federal laws and could lose access to billions of dollars in Justice Department grants if they continue to thwart efforts to deport illegal immigrants.

And counties and cities that have taken money in the past, despite refusing to cooperate with federal agents, could have that money clawed back, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said. That would mean Chicago, Philadelphia and other prominent sanctuaries would not only lose money going forward, but might have to pay back tens of millions of dollars from their treasuries.

Both Judges Who Blocked Trump’s Travel Ban Made Decision Based on Fake News

Via Billy

Evidence that has been central to the two Federal judges instrumental in the March 15th revocation of President Trump’s travel ban was recently found to be false. The leaked Department of Homeland Security document first came to light via the Associated Press, where it was detailed in a February 24th article and has been cited as integral to the decision making process for the judges.

The most important thing to note regarding this new information is that the judges based their ruling on false information about the actual threat and risk that refugees pose in regards to national security.

To compound the problem, the leaked document mentions nothing about the potential health risk refugees pose to the general public.

Outrage has grown at Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, as the school faces layoffs and increased class sizes due to a law limiting funds for schools with a higher white student body.

The Los Angeles Unified School District provides more funding for schools where the white population is below 30 percent.

In a letter to parents, the district noted the highly regarded middle school had been above the percentage for the past couple years.

The NCAA is threatening to remove North Carolina from consideration to host championship games for the foreseeable future if the state does not repeal a law regulating public restrooms, locker rooms and showers on the basis of biological sex.

The collegiate sports league will announce championship locations from 2018 to 2022 on April 18, and it said North Carolina will not be among them unless HB2 is repealed.

“Absent any change in the law, our position remains the same regarding hosting current or future events in the state,” the NCAA said in a statement Thursday. “As the state knows, next week our various sports committees will begin making championship site selections for 2018-2022 based upon bids received from across the country.”

Fox News host Sean Hannity is demanding CBS News release his entire interview with veteran journalist Ted Koppel on “Sunday Morning,” after Mr. Koppel said Mr. Hannity’s show was “bad for America.”

Mr. Hannity said his 45-minute interview with Mr. Koppel was unfairly edited down to less than two, and that many of the points he made didn’t make it into the broadcast.

In the segment that aired, Mr. Hannity argued that the American people were smart enough to distinguish between opinion shows and news shows. Mr. Koppel said he didn’t think that was the case.

“Do you think we’re bad for America?” Mr. Hannity asked. “You think I’m bad for America?”

“Yeah,” Mr. Koppel responded. “In the long haul, I think you and all these opinion shows are.”

“That’s sad, Ted,” Mr. Hannity interjected.

“That’s sad.”

As pressure mounted Monday night on the House intelligence committee over its Republican chairman and the Russia probe, President Trump took to Twitter to change the subject to Hillary Clinton.

Mr. Trump called the entire Russia-ties story fake news and demanded an investigation of the Clintons’ involvements with the Kremlin.

“Why isn’t the House Intelligence Committee looking into the Bill & Hillary deal that allowed big Uranium to go to Russia, Russian speech money to Bill, the Hillary Russian “reset,” praise of Russia by Hillary, or Podesta Russian Company. Trump Russia story is a hoax,” Mr. Trump wrote over two tweets.

Schumer goes off on Trump supporter at NYC restaurant, witness says

Via Bill

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., calls for an investigation into President Donald Trump's administration over its relationship with Russia, Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, on Capitol Hill in Washington.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., caused a scene at a Manhattan restaurant when he began yelling at a wealthy and well-connected Donald Trump supporter that the POTUS is “a liar.”

Schumer, the top Senate Democrat, lost his cool on Sunday night at Upper East Side restaurant Sette Mezzo, according to witnesses.

He was dining with friends when he encountered Joseph A. Califano Jr. — the former U.S. secretary of health, education and welfare under President Jimmy Carter and domestic policy adviser to President Lyndon B. Johnson — and his wife, Hilary, who were having a quiet dinner.

Onlookers said Schumer was incensed that Hilary — the daughter of William S. Paley, the founder and chairman of CBS — had voted for Trump, even though her husband, Joseph, is a well-known Democrat.
