Grant and taking his sword to the other side?

Via Nancy

Almost everybody knows the Grant quote about taking his sword to the other side if the war were about slavery. That quote has been much pooh-poohed because it could not be sourced. But now, that may no longer be true. According to the book "The Democratic Speakers' Handbook" by Augustus R. Cazauran (the pen name of Matthew Cary, Jr.) published in 1868, on page 33 the author reveals that Grant was interviewed by the Randolph Citizen. At the time Grant was the commander of that county's militia and in the interview (which appeared in the Spring or Summer of 1861), Grant called himself a Democrat (it was a heavily Democratic area) and stated that if the war were to free the slaves, he would take his sword to the other side. This information was reprinted in a host of other newspapers so the idea that this quote is a fiction is itself a fiction.
The book is available on Amazon.

Coit’s Calhoun

Want to learn about one of the greatest statesmen that the United States has ever produced?  Then get hold of John C. Calhoun: American Portrait by Margaret Coit.

When this beautifully-written book received the Pulitzer Prize for Biography in 1951, it was generally agreed that Coit had redeemed Calhoun as a major and admirable, even heroic, figure in American history.  Even “liberal” historians of that time agreed.  One result was that a U.S. Senate committee chaired by John F. Kennedy selected Calhoun as one of the five greatest Senators of all time.

How the times have changed!  But Coit’s book has not changed and is still a marvelous correction to presently-distorted history as well as a stellar example of the biographer’s art.

“The Most Violent Car We’ve Ever Filmed”

When 1320 Video tabbed this Camaro “The Most Violent Car They’ve Ever Filmed”, you know it’s gotta be crazy.  “We have filmed THOUSANDS of cars across the globe, and NOTHING – not ONE compares to this beast!” Says 1320 Video, that’s quite a statement considering their Youtube channel is filled with sub 5-second cars. This Camaro has a big block motor with a gargantuan screw-type blower sitting on top of it punching out over 3,500 horsepower, which is enough to put down  sub 3.8 second 1/8 passes.

An Iraqi policeman collects himself as he is surrounded by bodies at the site of a mass grave containing some two dozen people, many of them children, in an area recently re-taken from Islamic State militants in Mosul, Iraq, Wednesday, March. 15, 2017

Lawmakers, advocates and survivors gathered Thursday to mark the anniversary of the U.S. designation of Islamic State genocide against Christians, Yazidis and other religious minorities in the Middle East, urging the Trump administration to turn those words into action.

Friday marks the one-year anniversary of the designation issued by former Secretary of State John F. Kerry, which followed the 393-0 vote in the House to recognize the crimes of the Islamic State as genocide.

Reps. Jeff Fortenberry, Nebraska Republican, and Anna G. Eshoo, California Democrat, were among those in attendance Thursday at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center to celebrate the bipartisan achievement and outline steps to take going forward.

Continuing the fiery rhetoric of the Turkish government towards the EU today, President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan told fellow Turks living in Europe that they were the continent’s future and that they must stake a claim to it.

Campaigning in the Central Anatolian city of EskiÅŸehir for the passage of a referendum which would grant his office decisive new powers, ErdoÄŸan addressed Europe’s millions strong Turkish population, an estimated five million of whom will be eligible to vote in the April 16th constitutional referendum.

Lawmakers warn judges ruling on travel bans against exceeding power: Rulings seen as political

This week’s rulings against President Trump’s revised executive order on travel and refugees have sparked heated pushback from Republicans on Capitol Hill, who say judges have crossed the line to become adversaries of this White House — and suggested retribution could be coming.

Even some judges seemed worried about the tenor of recent rulings, saying their colleagues appeared to be letting personal beliefs taint their legal reasoning.

“As tempting as it is to use the judicial power to balance those competing interests as we see fit, we cannot let our personal inclinations get ahead of important, overarching principles about who gets to make decisions in our democracy,” Judge Jay Bybee, of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, wrote in a dissent Wednesday. He said his colleagues erred in not agreeing to rehear Mr. Trump’s defense of his original executive order.

Subject: State by State -- Cost to Maintain Illegals

Although the nation as a whole has a compassionate bent for the disadvantaged migrants, the illegal ones cause much hardship for middle class tax payers to maintain them economically. With all the hardships our own citizens have incurred in the tax burdens, this cost is prohibitive.

Check out the cost by state listed below. Click on the state desired to see the stats cost per illegal immigrant.

Union Officials Admit They Let Veterans Die Rather Than Talk To Republicans

Via David

Homeless U.S. military veterans stand in line for free services at a "Stand Down" event hosted by the Department of Veterans Affairs on November 3, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. A week ahead of Veterans Day, more than 500 homeless veterans were expected to attend the event, where they received free medical care, winter clothing, employment assistance and were able to see a judge to resolve legal issues. Organizers say the homeless veterans population has surged in recent years with the high national unemployment rate. A federal employee union president is wracked with regret because veterans likely died at a time when she knew about gross misconduct within her Department of Veterans Affairs facility but didn’t tell congressional leaders because they were Republicans.

“If I would’ve gone to him two years ago, who knows what kind of lives could’ve been saved,” Germaine Clarno told a radio interviewer Monday, referring to the Republican leader of a VA subcommittee. Clarno, a lifelong Democrat and social worker at the Hines Veterans Affairs Hospital in Hines, Ill., has been president of the union representing doctors at the hospital since before the deadly wait-time scandal unfolded.

New Interior Department Secretary Ryan Zinke is hanging the "Open for Business" sign on energy rich federal lands, just his latest repeal of Obama-era restrictions.

In approving a $22 million coal lease on the Greens Hollow tract in central Utah, Zinke said that other deals will be cut in hopes of putting people back to work.

"The United States has more coal than any other nation on earth, and we are lucky to be at a time in our history that we have the technology available to responsibly mine coal and return our land to equal or better quality after," said Zinke.

War with North Korea would be a 'bloodbath,' says DoD official

Slaughter of South Korean prisoners at Taejon by North Koreans

While Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is warning North Korea about possible military action in response to its nuclear threat, top military commanders are cautioning that war on the Korean peninsula would be a "bloodbath," a senior official tells the Washington Examiner.

Publicly, the Pentagon says its role is to provide military options to support the policies of the new administration. But so far there have been no discussions that contemplate any preemptive attack on the North, the official said.

"In the military we are obsessive planners," said Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, "and there is always a process to review and update and modernize and make as possible every plane we have."

Pentagon planners predict any offensive military action would likely lead to all out-war between the North and the South, with projected deaths of more than 1 million people.

Lies of Omission: Update

Lies of Omission

We are quickly approaching a time when the façade can no longer be maintained. I don't know how it has held up as long as it has. The very idea that judges, black-robed Marxists, can reject a perfectly Constitutional action of the president, an explicit duty of the president, is not just a shame, or an abuse, it is the spear-in-the-ground type of challenge. It is a call-out, a challenge to the very legitimacy of the Constitution.

While I have felt this way any number of times in the past, it is much more pronounced now that Trump is the President. I was never very sure about Trump, but I will tell you one thing, this guy brings out the worst in the leftists, he makes them absolutely drop the pretense of sanity. Nothing warms the heart like that. Now, I'm still not sure where Trump reveals the worst he has, but in his budget he defunds PBS, the National Endowment for the Arts and Humanities. Okay, he probably did that as a warning shot to the Marxists, let them fight for those things and give him other things. I know how the game is played, but do you have any idea how many brown underpants were created by that budget proposal?

President Donald Trump’s budget director told reporters Thursday the White House was no longer spending money on climate change research because it’s a “waste of your money.”

“We’re not spending money on that anymore,” Mick Mulvaney, the Office of Management and Budget director, said at a press briefing while discussing the president’s decision to dial back climate science research.

“We consider that to be a waste of your money,” he added.

Trump released his congressional budget request Thursday, which contained several contentious reductions, including dramatic cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy.

“Military Colonist” is a term that has gone out of fashion in this brave new world of “No Human Being is Illegal” and “Every Refugee Deserves to be Resettled.

The university history professor with an office full of fake Indian jewelry and a view of the parking lot will lecture on the military colonies of the Roman period, always careful to emphasize their eventual fate. And he may even get up to the 16th century. But he’ll stay away from the present.

But if you are going to take land or seize power, you will need military colonists to hold it. The military colonist may be an ex-soldier, but he’s more likely to be someone the empire, present or future, doesn’t particularly need or have a use for. The Czars used serfs. The present day military colonist who shows up at JFK or LAX may also be a peasant with even less value to his culture.

Mexico’s military colonists are not military. Often they aren’t even Mexican. But they have managed to take back California without firing a shot. Unless you count the occasional drive by shooting.

Authorities are frantically searching for a Secret Service-issued laptop — containing floor plans for Trump Tower, information about the Hillary Clinton email investigation and other national security information — that was stolen from an agent’s car in Brooklyn, police sources told the Daily News Friday.

The computer was lifted Thursday morning and officials are trying to determine if Agent Marie Argentieri was targeted or if the robbery was random.

NYPD cops are assisting in the investigation, sources said.

“It’s a very big deal,” a police source said. “There’s data on there that’s highly sensitive. They’re scrambling like mad.”
