The neologism cuckservative, a portmanteau of cuckold and conservative, streaked onto the scene comet-like in the lead-up to the 2016 election year. It has proven a stinging indictment to those who had grown inured to the preceding turncoat labels such as RINO, Quisling, and the like.
But even the initial response it evoked is stronger than that of any foregoing equivalent. There are a couple obvious reasons for this: one is that the term RINO ultimately only begs the question of what a true conservative is, and it was therefore easily co-opted by the NeoCons as a hex against the lingering ‘America First’ wing of the GOP, thus turning its original meaning of RINO upside down; whereas the term Quisling, by way of its association with German Fascism, has little bite for those who pride themselves on being the embodiment of all things “anti-fascist,” especially when leveled by those to their right, as it can then be construed as a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
