Why Do They Hate the South and Its Symbols?

 confederate memorial

This article is taken from The Unz Review and was originally presented at the Confederate Flag Day in Raleigh, NC in 2007.

Those Southern secessionists whose national flag we are now celebrating have become identified not only with a lost cause but with a now publicly condemned one. Confederate flags have been removed from government and educational buildings throughout the South, while Confederate dignitaries whose names and statues once adorned monuments and boulevards are no longer deemed as fit for public mention.

  1. Great read. What I want to know is, who turned shooter Roof into the pile of hatred he supposedly is? All this bashing of southern white culture seems rather quick, as if it was waiting in the wings for the catalyst that Roof became. To me it almost seems like all this confederate bashing and the turning of Roof into the killer he became are all tied together somehow in the background.

    1. 100%. As soon as this happened Obama and his minions were on the phone telling all to go for it. Haley was probably the first one contacted and she is our sworn enemy now.

  2. Why Do They Hate the South and Its Symbols?

Because talking ( SOME of the Northern States) about secession and actually doing it ( ALL of the Southern States ) tends to anger those without a pair.

  3. Brock, please correct me if I am wrong. I (by birth a midwest yankee) have viewed the Confederate flag, not as a symbol of racism, but as a symbol of defiance. The Left are totalitarians. The Left wants every one to worship the State. The Left wants absolute power over every one. There is no area in life so minor that the Left does not want in some way to regulate. This is why in my opinion the Confederate flag is so intensely hated, it represents open defiance to central authority. Even the debate about is controlled, TPTB are saying the flag means what we say it means, and your view does NOT matter. The Confederate flag is my true flag The Stars and Stripes now belongs to the the forces of evil. I have been betrayed by my leaders

  4. This hatred has its underpinnings in anti-Christian hatred. The South is using (as is true of Scotland & Russia) the St.Andrews cross and the haters hate Christ. The hate that does exist for the South is true also but is is set up as a straw man argument. If blacks knew their history they would know that the blacks of the 1860s were much better off on the plantations than they were in the sweat shops of the north. It is suspicious that the shooting took place about the time of that awful un-Constitutional decision by the SCOTUS.
