DIY camping tent submission

Comment/submission by Anonymous on Prepping 101: Large Portable Family Shelters

Long term DIY camping tent thought - those above ground swimming pools you see for sale for $200 plus, 14' diameter for example. Wouldn't these make a decent cover for a round yurt-like tent ? Shallow - yes, but also far more concealed then a full height tent.

Several metal 'cattle panels', tied end to end to form a 'hoop'. Metal 'T' posts along the edges to hold the shape. Drape pool upside over this, forming a shallow tent. A higher center pole to push rain to outside edges. Camoflauge or built underneath dense tree canopy, not a bad option.

These pools develop leaks in time, and often are thrown out because they won't hold water. In the case of a tent, not so bad, you are holding water out of it, rather than containing. This means you may be able to scrounge one for very little money.

The cattle panels can be easily left out in field for pre-positioning - grass grows right through it and they would be hard to detect unless you know they are there.

Just a thought.
