We are all living in a potential radiation hotzone of the future. Radiation is silent, invisible, has no smell, and there is a good chance that we all will have to deal with radiation in our lifetimes. It could be, as NWO kingpin George Soros says, an all out nuclear war with China and Russia. It could just be that a few nukes pop a couple hundred miles in the air, using our nationwide electrical grid as a giant antenna to wipe out our power stations (an EMP). That would lead to a meltdown of our nuke plants plants all over the country, which need a power grid to cool themselves. If you think you are “prepping,” but you aren’t prepared to measure both high and low levels of radiation (two distinct issues), it might be time to take a look at your options.

  1. IF and that's a big if, these units are accurate, and they list a measurement error
range of 30% where plus or minus 5% is considered typical in most sciences
these may be 'better than nothing. However the upper limit of measurement is
only 200 microsieverts for one model and 100 microsieverts for the other. That is
NOT a very high level. This means that if you have the PRO model that maxes at
100 microsieverts which is equivalent to 10 millirems you could be fooled into
being vastly overexposed because of the limits of the unit. 10mR is NOT a lot of
exposure. So such a unit could lull someone into thinking they are safer than they are. But at the price point it could be useful and 'better than nothing'. However as in
most things a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous and having equipment to measure dangerous things but not the knowledge could lead people to make bad
    decisions.

  2. OH YEH! That's smart. Put a life critical piece of software on a gadget that will be the first thing to go TU in an a nuke emergency. This Idea not only reeks of stupid , but is so utterly stupid as to defy belief. If an EMP has just fried the "grid" and every microchip on your side of the planet , how does anyone plan to "read" that now dead hunk of plastic and glass? Or will people just do a "Miss Cleo" and use their Jedi Mind Control to make the phones come back? "The stupid is strong with this one" is an understatement at best . Brock I have had issues with the morons at Guns America ,and some of the DEEPLY stupid crap they advocate. BUT WOW! this really is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. If someone's "survival options" involve a smart phone app. after a nuke war , then the medical chart notation "too stupid to live" fits that person in spades. Whoever thought this one up needs their meds adjusted.----Ray

They have come up with some strange ones before.

    2. After an EMP or during a TEOTWAWKI event these may not be useful.
But in a subway ornother public venue they may alert you to contamination from an isolated incident. It's not that hard to get ahold of radioactive material and use it to contaminate a public place surreptitiously. Some isotopes like Polonium won't hurt you unless you ingest or inhale them but once inside your body they can kill. As I stated these are limited in utility but have the advantage of being easy to carry. Like a gun smaller is better than none.
Having played with radiation for near 4 decades I can see the utility of something like this for someone trained and knowledgeable.

Thanks and what did you do, if I'm not too inquisitive?

  3. Geeze! More irrational hype. There are lots of good reasons to have a gieger counter. Prospecting, Radon detection, even some out of the box prepping. But nuclear reactor meltdown isn't one of them. They are NOT cooled by the power grid. they are cooled by those big things next to them called "cooling towers". Or in the case of San Onorfre, the Pacific Ocean.
