When Joe Lohmeier returned last weekend from his trip to Mexico, he immediately knew something was amiss. There were leaves and dirt all throughout his Texas home.
“You could tell people had been tracking through,” Lohmeier told KVUE-TV in Austin.
His suspicions were confirmed after heading to a room where he stores his safe, valuables and gun collection.
“The safe was backed in,” Lohmeier told the station. “They had turned it, and I was just in shock to find its diamond blade cut open.”

You have to know that someone he knew or pissed off recently waited for this chance. Those thugs knew *exactly* who they were hitting. Maybe this is an OpSec/PerSec lesson?

DeleteI believe so and think better to hide what ever you have in many places, as putting it all in one big safe sure makes it easy if they have the means to open it.
Mistake #1, he or his wife likely broadcast their vacation plans all over social media (Facebook, Twitter) in advance.
ReplyDeleteMistake #2, The safe was not bolted to the floor/wall, allowing the strongest side (the door) to be turned so the thieves could access the side which is where they cut through the steel. Any K12 saw will do the job in about 10 minutes. A Stihl concrete saw with a steel blade will do the same thing.
Mistake #3, No alarm system, no video monitoring, no dog, no trusted friend or family member checking on the residence or house sitting. Nothing.
Mistake #4, Not insuring valuables you can't afford to lose.
I hate that the guy was victimized by thieves, but it sure did make their job easy enough for them.

DeleteThe people who did this knew the victim in some fashion. They knew he would be gone for the weekend and they knew there was a safe. They had the tools needed.

most departments just don't care enough about property crimes to make much of an effort.

Return the Gallows to the public square, Murder, Rape, Steal, and you get the rope. I'll wager that the trash that robbed that house were repeat felons and well known to the local PD. This is but one more reason to do away with the now useless governance that is the "American political System" and return something our ancestors would recognize .---Ray

DeleteA co-worker was robbed recently when her and her husband went on vacation.
ReplyDeleteShe didn't broadcast their vacation plans, but she has a travel trailer/toy hauler they take out to the dunes. She thinks someone saw them loading the trailer, or just noticed the trailer was gone which tipped them off that they would not be home.
Now, she stores her travel trailer away from her house.
