Deputies respond to a fatal officer-involved shooting in Transylvania County. (March 9, 2015/FOX Carolina)

Transylvania County Sheriff David Mahoney said the State Bureau of Investigation is investigating after deputies fatally shot a man that pulled a gun on them.

The shooting happened at a home on Talley Road on Monday around 6 p.m. Mahoney said deputies, along with officers from the Brevard Police Department, NC Alcohol Law Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security, had been attempting to serve a search warrant at the home.

A spokesperson for the SBI said they were searching for an illegal liquor still.

The SBI spokesperson said Brown fled to the upstairs of the residence, grabbed a gun and refused to put it down before being shot.

Brown, 58, died at the scene.

  1. why is DHS in on a still raid? shouldn't that be ATF ?

Or are they too busy writing regulations that they don't have the authority to do, but do anyway.

  2. Law enforcement will kill you to keep the government coffers full....we need to get back to peace officers.

    1. I don't understated the story, as it makes no sense to me that he wouldn't put down the rifle. Common sense says you would and if not then you would use it.

  4. Did you also notice that nothing was said whether or not a still was found?

    4. I didn't see it either. Should've put "possibly" a wrong address

    5. We should hire ex-cabbies as cops since they know how to find addresses......:)

  5. "refused to put it down before being shot" In a sad way that reminds me of the old joke about the deer hunter who tried to wean his dogs off of dog food. He said it didn't work but he believed it would have if they'd lived one more day.

They wouldn't have killed him if he'd put the gun down one second sooner. It says nothing about him shooting at or even pointing the gun at them Last time I heard, the constitution STILL allows you to be secure in your home.

That's why I'm questioning the story.

    2. well, since the man is already dead, we can only hope it was a clean shoot and he had it coming. These days you just don't know and that in it's self is a sad commentary on what this country has become under BHO.

I read an article a while back about how the feds operate and based on that
it makes me wonder if Homeland Security wasn't the driving force behind this whole deal. The article said that the feds will roll into town, get the local sheriff and tell him they have a severe problem and need him to put together a taskforce to help them out. Then when the boys are assembled
the feds will do a dog and pony show about patriotism, mom and apple pie and about how bad this guy is and what a threat he is but all the while hiding any details behind need to know secrecy. They get the local boys all fired up and half scared to death and then lead them in to take on the
"THREAT". That puts everyone on a hair trigger and causes them to turn on their neighbor and sometimes friend. The outcome is all to predictable.
Let's just hope this isn't another case in point.

      That's not encouraging.

  6. The media cant report on a traffic accident accurately. (Or something that cant be used as propaganda)

Unless there are eyewitnesses or video we'll never know.

    1. Agreed, just hope there is more to the story. If he was starting to aim at the cops, then it's justified.

  7. There were probably 40-50 "officers" and Mraps and tactical swat team there for this dangerous person who was probably either swatted, fingered by a ci -or narked on by a neighbor.
not enough real criminals for them to flex their muscle on.

  8. Three separate law enforcement agencies - kind of over-kill for a simple still.
I've known a few who had stills; not a big deal. I can just imagine what this
poor man must have thought when all the pitbulls showed up at one time.
Brevard was just a simple country town until the implants showed up.
