Saturday, 21 February, Noon to 9PM at Historic Heritage Square, 225 Dick Street, Fayetteville -- $5 General Admission.
On
10 March 1865 General William Hardee and newly-appointed Army of
Tennessee commander General Joseph E. Johnston met in Fayetteville to
develop a strategy to stop enemy troops invading from South Carolina.
Hardee and his force had recently marched from Cheraw and would soon
make a stand at Averysboro.
On Saturday, 21 February,
Fayetteville’s Historic Heritage Square will host a unique living
history of both generals in addition to infantry and artillery
encampments, field hospital and presentations on life on the home front
for North Carolina women and children.
Visitors
will experience presentations and vivid living histories of life on
North Carolina’s Home Front with Kelly Hinson; author Author Wade
Sokolosky will speak of his book “No Such Army Since the Days of Julius
Caesar” which traces events in early 1865 from Fayetteville to the
battle of Averysboro. Candlelight Tours of Heritage Square are offered 6:30PM to 9PM.
The
program is a presentation of the North Carolina War Between the States
Sesquicentennial Commission; all proceeds benefit the Heritage Square
