Nearing the Edge

        Mike Scruggs

The reason I frequently write on immigration issues is that just one more moderate amnesty could push the U.S. over the political edge to Permanent Democratic Party dominance. The amnesty itself could push the Federal Government and many state and local governments over a fiscal edge leading to serious currency devaluation and major long-term damage to the economy.

If you want to know what immigration-driven fiscal disaster and increasing Democratic Party dominance look like in its first decades, just take a look at California, a state where Ronald Reagan was twice elected Governor. The once Golden State is already a fiscal basket case and headed toward being a Federal bailout burden. The state has 2.7 million illegal immigrants, 7.2 percent of the population, costing the taxpayers $21.8 billion per year, $2,438 per native household.  In February of this year, once prosperous California had the fourth highest unemployment rate in the nation, 8.0 percent. California Democratic legislators continue their radical path to calamity.

President Obama, marching to the same radical beat, has already given 500,000 amnesties without consulting or being interfered with by Congress.

One extremely important thing that voters, the media, and elected officials at every level should know is that if the U.S. gives another amnesty, it will almost certainly result in a powerful snowballing effect.

The 1986 Amnesty was supposed to legalize about 1.0 million unlawful immigrants, and it turned out to be almost 3.0 million

That was followed by six smaller amnesties giving a total of 3.0 million additional individual amnesties, for a grand total of 6.0 million.

Amnesties always encourage more illegal immigration. The 1986 Amnesty is estimated to have attracted two to three additional illegal immigrants over the subsequent ten to twenty years for every unlawful immigrant originally legalized.  Giving 3.0 million amnesties in 1986 resulted in another 6.0 to 9.0 million illegal immigrants by 2006. The subsequent six smaller amnesties have undoubtedly helped to get us to the estimated 12.0 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. now. Some think the number may be as high as 20.0 million. Although internal enforcement of immigration laws has become negligible, not many illegal immigrants admit to being illegal on survey forms. However, the idea that they must “hide in the shadows” is laughable.

Continued failure to enforce our immigration laws at the borders and especially at the employer level has pushed the U.S. to the edge of a political cliff, at the bottom of which lies fiscal, monetary, and economic disaster. Just as grievous will be the surrender of our national security and sovereignty and permanent loss of political control to an increasingly radical, socialist, and totalitarian Democratic Party.

Amnesties beget more amnesties and more illegal immigrants in a powerful multiplier effect. This multiplier effect will be even more powerful with Barack Obama as President. He has already given 500,000 amnesties without much Congressional resistance. Any amnesty under Obama means that any enforcement provisions of such legislation will be ignored; just as current immigration enforcement laws have been ignored for years. Obama, however, has escalated the lawlessness of the Federal government to levels of breathtaking arrogance. Whatever criteria are set for any new amnesty in regard to age or circumstance are likely to be meaningless. From 25 to 30 percent of 1986 amnesties were granted on fraudulent documentation. Even now 75 percent of illegal immigrant workers are guilty of social security fraud or identity theft. The rest may work “off the books” suggesting other violations of U. S. law including tax evasion and tax fraud.

Few who apply for any amnesty under Obama will be turned down. It is much more likely that amnesty applications will be encouraged and processed with the objective of maximizing political benefits to Obama, the Democratic Party, and cheap labor profits for those who have little concern about the consequences for American workers, taxpayers, traditional values, or Constitutional government.

Reviewing the data from the Heritage Foundation’s recent study of illegal immigration and amnesty, we can see the combined damage of irresponsible welfare policies and corrupt and politicized immigration policies.

Annual Taxes less Benefits Deficit per household

        All U.S. residents          $ 1,158 deficit

        U.S native born               $    310 deficit

        Lawful immigrants                         $  4,344 deficit

        Illegal immigrants                          $14,387 deficit

        Amnestied illegal immigrants      $18,980 deficit

A large part of this problem is due to the low education level and low earning power of recent illegal immigrants. Legalizing unlawful immigrants increases per household costs due to more benefits and minimal tax rates and revenue at lower income levels.

The bottom line here is that illegal immigration is terribly expensive and increases by about 32 percent with amnesty, further endangering the fiscal viability of U.S. Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare. Note also that legal entry of cheap unskilled labor is also a significant fiscal burden.

The so-called “children’s amnesty” would not only be loosely policed, but the 1965 immigration law gives a priority to extended family. The newly legalized “children” would then have priority opportunities to legalize their illegal parents. It would therefore be a sufficient instrument for snowballing a politically decisive change in the electorate.

There are 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. There are 199 Democrats, 233 Republicans. and three vacancies. The Republican House leadership including Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Cantor, Judicial Chairman Goodlatte, and Budget Chairman Paul Ryan want an amnesty deal with Democrat leader Pelosi, even though a substantial majority of House Republicans are against it. However, it would not take many Republicans aligning for amnesty to reach a 218 majority. There may be as many as 30 that can be persuaded to amnesty. As few as 19 could start the amnesty snowball rolling off the cliff to political, fiscal, monetary, and economic calamity and social chaos. We are nearing the edge of foolish national catastrophe.

"What's the spring-breathing jasmine and rose?
What's the summer with all its gay train,
Or the splendour of autumn to those,
Who've bartered their freedom for gain?"

Protection for 'children' includes unborn

A remarkable opinion in a ruling by the Supreme Court of Alabama that is bound to be quoted in abortion disputes declares the unborn are protected by rights granted by God to every human being.

“Our Creator, not government, gives to all people ‘unalienable’ natural rights,” the opinion asserts, arguing that state laws protecting children after birth also cover the unborn.

The concurrent opinion by Chief Justice Roy Moore, who once fought the state over the display of the Ten Commandments, says: “As stated by James Wilson, one of the first justices on the United States Supreme Court: ‘Human law must rest its authority ultimately upon the authority of that law which is divine.’”

Moore noted the “first right listed in the Declaration as among our unalienable rights is the right to ‘Life.’”

“Blackstone wrote that ‘[l]ife is the immediate gift of God, a right inherent by nature in every individual; and it begins in contemplation of law as soon as an infant is able to stir in the mother’s womb,’” he wrote.

Breaking Scandal: BLM Rounding Up Wild Horses, Sending To Slaugherhouse In Canada

Via avordvet

The Bureau of Land Management is clearly having an image problem. As the outrage over its intimidating show of force during last week’s showdown at the Bundy Ranch in Nevada proved, the federal agency is now caught up in a controversy originating in Wyoming.

According to recent reports, agents herded a large group of wild horses in the state before ceding control of the majestic animals to state authorities. At that point, Wyoming officials sold them off to a slaughterhouse in Canada.

Obviously, this development outraged countless advocates already incensed by accusations that BLM officers gunned down multiple cows at the Bundy Ranch.

Cop Tries to Shoot Dog, Ends Up Shooting Himself

Via Terry

Children relieved dog wasn't shot.

A California sheriff’s deputy is feeling the sting of humiliation after he attempted to shoot a fenced-in dog, but failed, succeeding only in shooting himself.

The deputy, who works with the Riverside County Court Services Division, was reportedly serving an eviction notice at a Riverside home on Wednesday at around 2p.m. when a “large dog” approached him.

Police say the pit bull, who can be seen in footage shot by Los Angeles NBC affiliate KNBC being playful and friendly with several children, attacked the officer, forcing him to draw his weapon.

After 60 Years, Dad’s 16-Gauge, Hardware-Store, Hammer Gun is Back in the Family

My Dad, who enjoyed hunting and shooting sports all of his life, passed away on June 5, 2013 at age 95.  Franklin Lee Marten was living on the farm in the same house where he was born. He was still shooting skeet and hunting doves by his grandson’s pond the year before he died. When I was a little kid, my dad had a 16-gauge Stevens hammer gun. I remember handling it, but Dad sold it to his good friend and hunting buddy, Harry Moore, in 1949 or 1950 before I was old enough to shoot it.

One morning in October 2009 when my wife and I were back in central Illinois visiting our respective families, Dad and I ran into Harry while having coffee at the local restaurant. (Harry was in his early 80s at the time, but has since passed away.) In the course of our conversation, I asked about that Stevens. Harry said he still had it, although he had cut off the barrels to 20 inches many years ago “to shoot rats” at the local grain elevator where he worked. I let Harry know that if he ever wanted to sell it, I'd like to buy it.

Wildlife Officials Kill 6 Black Bears After Attack on Florida Woman

A black bear mauled a Florida woman outside her home near Orlando Saturday evening. During the subsequent investigation in Seminole County, Fla., officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have shot one bear and euthanized five others, the agency announced in various press releases.

Forty-five-year-old Terri Frana was sitting on the back porch of her home around 7:30 p.m. Saturday when her two youngest children asked to visit the neighbors. Shortly after the kids departed on bikes two bears scurried from behind the house toward the street. Frana followed them and discovered five bears on the driveway, rummaging through trash they had dragged from the open garage, according to her husband. Although Frana proceeded down the driveway to look for her children, she didn’t make it far. One black bear charged and knocked Frana to the ground as she turned to flee. Frana curled into a ball and played dead, but the bear continued to maul her.

“The bear actually had my wife’s head in its mouth and started to drag her towards the woods,” Frank Frana told WFTV.

NC WBTS Sesquicentennial Commission Members Address academy students

North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial

Commission members Thomas Jolly of Tabor City and Bernhard Thuersam of Wilmington spoke to the history students of Megan Weaver at the Columbus Career and College Academy in Fair Bluff, North Carolina on 16 April.

Both presenters were in uniform and spoke on a variety of topics related to the various causes of the War Between the States, why North Carolina withdrew from the union of states, black soldiers in the Southern army, and how the war’s result is connected to many issues we face today in America.
All students were encouraged to view the past with perspective and through the eyes of its participants -- and ponder why a peaceful solution to the perplexing question of slavery was not promoted by the north instead of war.

This program is part of the Sesquicentennial Commission’s continuing outreach to North Carolina schools, and follows the recent living history program presented to students of a Duplin county high school.

VA: Man will get warning instead of $525 citation for $.89 drink refill

Via LH

Officials with the VA Medical Center in downtown Charleston say a North Charleston man who was initially federally charged with a $525 fine for an $.89 drink refill will instead be given a warning.

"In reviewing the case, the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center has determined a warning in lieu of a citation is sufficient in this case," a statement released by the VA stated on Thursday.

Christopher Lewis, an on-site construction worker, said he didn't know refills at the VA Medical Center in downtown Charleston came at a price, and Wednesday, during his lunch hour, he was originally slapped with federal charges. The ticket was issued by the Federal Police Force at the VA Medical Center in downtown Charleston after Lewis refilled his soda without paying the $0.89. A hospital spokesperson on Wednesday called it a "theft of government property."

Mr. President: The only remaining question is whether the rot extends to your office, too

Lois Lerner listens at the start of a House Oversight Committee hearing on May 22, 2013, to investigate the extra scrutiny the IRS gave to Tea Party...

Corruption: New emails show that both the IRS and Justice Department were involved in a probe of Tea Party and other conservative groups. This is no mere scandal — it's a major breach of the law.

The newly released emails were gathered for a Freedom of Information Act request by Judicial Watch, a nonpartisan public interest law group. They show that former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner discussed with the Justice Department going after conservative groups that she believed lied about their political activities.

What's shocking is that this discussion came just days before Lerner acknowledged that the IRS had investigated tea-party and other conservative groups but insisted that it was an isolated incident conducted by low-level officials in the IRS' Cincinnati office.

It was a lie. In a May 8 email to Nikole Flax, then the chief of staff to the acting IRS commissioner, Lerner discusses a phone call from Richard Pilger, who headed the Justice Department's elections crimes unit.

BLM Bury Bundy Cattle In Mass Grave

Ben Swann interviewed Ryan Bundy, son of Cliven Bundy, on his radio program Wednesday. Bundy spoke about the continuing battle over the grazing land, the next steps federal agents may take, and what has already taken place on the property so far.

Bundy told Swann that federal agents have fled the area and left a great deal of gear and equipment and that they aren’t likely to return any time soon for it. He also said that federal agents destroyed much of the grazing infrastructure on the land, including water lines, water tanks, troughs, corrals, and fences.

The damage didn’t stop at just destroying infrastructure: Bundy revealed that their cattle, about 40 or so, had been killed by federal agents and thrown into a mass grave.
“The mass grave that was dug was about 50 feet long, 18 feet wide, 10 feet deep, and about a third of the way filled back in with cattle.”

Air Force Captain Mistaken as Burglar and Tackled by Cops in Own Home, Now They’re Arresting Him

Via avordvet

Air Force Captain Nicolas Aquino was tackled and handcuffed in his own home after police received a call from a neighbor of a suspected burglary. Aquino told the officer that he was the homeowner and even showed identification when the officer first approached him; the policeman finally left after Aquino showed him bills with his name and address.

However, that wasn’t the end of it. Months later, Aquino learned that the police station had issued a warrant for him, claiming that he resisted arrest and obstructed an officer.

NC: Crossing border for health care not as simple as it seemed on BlueChoice network

Via WiscoDave

S.C. resident Daniel Martin picked a BlueChoice HealthPlan insurance policy through the new Health Insurance Marketplace in part because his North Carolina primary-care physician was on the provider list.

Martin and his physician’s office even made calls to BlueChoice to confirm it, and his first visit to the doctor was covered.

Then, last week, Martin was diagnosed with a ruptured disc in his lower neck and scheduled for immediate surgery, only to find the S.C.-N.C. state line was a huge hurdle.

Revolutionary War tunnel preserved, explored in Ninety Six

Via comment by  PISSED on We'uns domestic terriists or somethin'..............

Historians and firefighters are working to preserve a siege tunnel that dates back to the Revolutionary War in the South Carolina town of Ninety Six.

See pictures of the historic tunnel that dates back to 1781 as crews work to preserve and explore it in Ninety Six.
FOX Carolina was with crews Wednesday to take a look inside the tunnel located at the Ninety Six National Historic Site, which is the only one of its kind left in the county.

In 1781 Patriots built the tunnel with the plan to burrow underneath the British-controlled Star Fort and plant explosives.

And now in 2014, Greenwood firefighter Russel Cline climbed through the tunnel with specialized breathing equipment and support from above ground to take a look at the tunnel dug more than 200 years ago.

"The air down there is almost as good as the air up here," Cline said.

We'uns domestic terriists or somethin'...............

Senator Harry Reid has escalated the war of words over the Cliven Bundy dispute, sensationally labeling the Nevada cattle rancher’s supporters “domestic terrorists” during an event in Las Vegas today.

During a ‘Hashtags & Headlines’ event at the Paris Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Reid referred to Bundy supporters as “Nothing more than domestic terrorists,” adding, “I repeat: what happened there was domestic terrorism.”

Reid was referring to the stand off on Saturday in Bunkerville where Bundy supporters, some of whom were armed, forced Bureau of Land Management agents to back down and release around 380 head of cattle belonging to Bundy that had been seized over the course of the previous week.

Reid claimed that Bundy viewed the United States as a “foreign government,” while accusing his supporters of goading violence.

Investor's Business Daily: Beware The Increasing Militarization Of Government

Federal Fire Power: Instead of putting a lien on the property of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, the Bureau of Land Management surrounded his ranch with 200 armed agents. It's not the only agency with a private army.

Back in 2008, candidate Barack Obama slipped a little-noticed line in a speech, proposing a national police force reporting straight to him.

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military," he said. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

As our military is slowly decimated by his policies and budget cuts — and with federal agencies armed to the teeth — we may be seeing what he had in mind at the ranch of a 67-year-old Nevadan.
