Liberal Think Tank: Obamacare will reduce incomes of most Americans

Via Blue

http://www.hyscience.com/income%20redistribution.jpg

I guess that's a duh.........:)

There's no doubt the Affordable Care Act will redistribute wealth in America. People at the top of the income ladder will pay more; people at the bottom will benefit. But how, exactly, will that work?

A new study finds that Obamacare's redistribution will be stunningly lopsided. Scholars at the liberal Brookings Institution have discovered that Obamacare will increase the income of Americans in the lowest 20 percent of the income scale, and especially in the lowest ten percent. But all other income groups -- even people who make very modest incomes in the $25,000 to $30,000 range, as well as all income brackets above that -- will experience a decline in income because of Obamacare. In other words, Obamacare is going to cost some of the very people it was designed to help.

1771 Alamance: The First Battle of Our American Revolution

Historians have taught that the American Revolution began with the "Shot heard around the world" at the Old North Bridge, Concord, New Hampshire. Although, at Concord on April 19, 1775, the conflict blazed up into a conflagration, perhaps another shot fired four years earlier in central North Carolina, was the Spark that ignited our American Revolution.

Here is the story.

Following the unsuccessful English settlement at Roanoke Island in the late 1500’s, colonization of Virginia and South Carolina gained more prominence, and the North Carolina uplands were settled by a more rugged, more independent-minded type of individual.

In 1765 the new Royal Governor of the North Carolina Colony, Lord Tryon, imposed a policy of taxation to build his opulent palace in New Bern. Over time, colonial leaders from the west wrote letters to the Gov. and spoke with the royal administrators requesting moderation of the onerous taxing and highhanded policies of the Royal Court in Hillsborough.

Lott hammers ABC News for the network’s deceptive anti-gun propaganda

 https://i1.ytimg.com/vi/uqOcisbDh2E/hqdefault.jpg

John Lott, President of the Crime Prevention Research Center, is hammering ABC News for the intentionally one-sided and deceitful anti-gun propaganda-fest that was the network’s attempt to scare parents away from gun ownership.

Gun control advocates not only push new fees and taxes on guns to reduce ownership, but they also employ another tactic: scaring people into not owning guns.

Last week, on January 31, ABC News saturated its news programs with the alleged danger of gun ownership.

It started early in the day with a segment on “Good Morning America,” then came a report on the evening news, and finally an entire hour devoted to the subject on “20/20.”

Slaves and the South

 http://i.ebayimg.com/t/The-South-Old-New-History-1820-1947-by-F-B-Simkins-1948-HC-Illus-First-Ed-/00/s/MTYwMFgxMjAw/$(KGrHqRHJEMFBsReLWdCBQeDdunGSw~~60_35.JPG

Southern uneasiness regarding slavery agitation had its origins in the murderous Haitian and Santo Domingo slave revolts, and Northern abolitionist encouragement of slave insurrection in the South, culminating in the Nat Turner and John Brown affairs.  One wonders today why the abolitionists never advanced a peaceful and practical solution to African slavery.
Bernhard Thuersam, Chairman
North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial Commission
"Unsurpassed Valor, Courage and Devotion to Liberty"
"The Official Website of the North Carolina WBTS Sesquicentennial"

Slaves and the South

“Abolitionist assertions that the bondsmen were frequently inadequately clothed, underfed and driven to death are economically unreasonable.  Masters wished to preserve the health and life of their slaves because a sick Negro was a liability and a dead Negro was worth nothing. A rude plenty prevailed on the average plantation.

“The best preventative of theft is plenty of pork,” was the advice of a Virginian.  Kindliness and patience, frequently extended even to a tolerance of slackness in every concern not vital to routine, created a degree of contentment among the slaves to keep them docile.  Although Jefferson had declared “the whole commerce between master and slave is a perpetual exercise of the most boisterous passions,” Harriet Martineau sympathized with the masters.

She wrote: “Nothing struck me more than the patience of the slave-owners . . . with their slaves.” Travelers often wondered who were the actual victims of the slave system.

Despite abolitionist allegations to the contrary, flights and revolts were infrequent. Fear that they should become general led the South to introduce ruthless laws for the apprehension of the absconders and federal legislation to protect their institution.

Actually, however, the thousands of slaves who ran away formed but a slight portion comprising the total slave population. During the several decades of its existence only some 75,000 Negroes used the underground railroad, which was organized to aid them in their attempt to reach Canada.

Flights were prompted by various causes. Some slaves undoubtedly ran away because they were talented or sensitive mulattoes who desired freedom.  Others wished to escape from barbarous punishments peculiar to the slave system.  Many fled . . . not to escape slavery but to return to their families and former homes. Some strayed for reasons not associated with slavery; they became tramps or vagabonds or fugitives from deserved punishments and crimes.  Most slaves, unlike migratory free Negroes of a later generation, did not move from their original homes.”

Beach Music! It's been the secret treasure of the Southeast for 60+ years. Upon tracing it back to its roots, it's easy to see that Beach Music embraced pre-Rhythm and Blues and Rhythm and Blues 10 years before Rock and Roll emerged on the national stage. Dancing and Music are joined at the heart and soles in Beach Music. The Shag is its dance— under many names, including Bop, Fast Dancing, Freestyling, Swing, and more. The Shag reveals its soul as the Dance of Romance.

Beach Music was 99.9% Rhythm and Blues and Soul during the its first 30 years. Nowadays, it's a broad, multicultural mix of Pop, Jump Blues, Soul, R&B, Local Carolina Soul, a little Hip Hop, and occasional Country crossovers. Shag, Romance, and Good Times are still at its center, while the dance and the music have spread to dance clubs across the U.S., in Australia, and Europe.

The Beach Music Weekly Top 40 countdown includes the 40 biggest cutting edge Beach and Shag tunes of today. The Yearly Beach Music Top 40 countdowns are for those who want to learn more about the history of Beach music from 1945-2008. You'll be surprised at how many songs you already love are a part of Beach Music heritage, which means they're not considered "oldies" —they are an important part of a living, breathing way of life where new experiences are

Carolina Beach, NC: The Birthplace of Beach Music, Shag Dancing

“I learned to shag on the beach, with the salt in the air, and the sand at my feet.”
—Lyric from I Love Beach Music by The Embers.

For nostalgic Americans, a small town beach with a vibrant boardwalk is the iconic summer vacation: clean sandy beaches; action-packed shooting arcades; exhilarating Ferris wheel rides; mouth-watering foods; and great entertainment at sunset. For centuries, Carolina Beach has offered all of this and more.

The Carolina Beach Boardwalk is the proud birthplace of shag dancing and beach music (also known as Carolina Beach Music). It is also the home of Britt’s Donuts, established in 1939. People drive for miles to enjoy one (or several!) of these famous hot glazed donuts that many consider the best in the country. But, undisputedly, the largest attraction is the beach: miles of wide, pristine shores and natural sand dunes. From your private balcony at Golden Sands Motel, you can smell the ocean and suntan oil in the breeze as you watch the waves roll upon the shore.

GOA Action Alert

Rand Paul's Pro-gun Amendment to Repeal Gun Bans in Post Offices Initially Fails

-- But a relentless Paul achieves minor improvements

In a surprise ambush, Democrats on the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee unanimously voted to defeat a Rand Paul amendment to allow guns in post offices.

But Senator Paul was relentless in trying to get his language adopted. And as a result, a minor (anemic) improvement was later added as a sop to his persistence.

GOA wants to thank you, our activists, for taking action on this issue. You might remember that anti-gun liberals -- like the editors at Esquire magazine -- laughed at GOA’s insistence that Americans be able to reclaim the right to protect themselves in Post Offices. They consider this ludicrous and called us “nutballs.”
The good news is that, despite the opposition from the Left, the battle to reclaim our rights is advancing. But more still needs to be done.

So, here’s what happened on Thursday: The committee initially defeated the Paul language that would have completely repealed the gun ban in Post Offices.

Among those who voted anti-gun (by continuing the postal gun ban) were three endangered Democrats running for reelection in pro-gun states:

* Mark Pryor (D-AR)

* Mark Begich (D-AK)

* Mary Landrieu (D-LA)

In addition, two other notable Democrats voted anti-gun

These Democrats had just won reelection by pretending to be pro-gun, but they joined with the anti-gun chorus anyway. They were:

* Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND)

* Jon Tester (D-MT)

The Paul amendment to the Postal Reform Act (S. 1486) was scheduled to be approved at the beginning of last week, but was postponed because of quibbling concerns raised by Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK).  But in the ensuing two weeks, the Bloomberg-faction in the U.S. Senate organized committee Democrats to maintain the gun ban in Post Offices.

As a result, Senator Paul’s guns-in-Post-Offices amendment was defeated (9-6) on a party line vote.

A weasel amendment by committee chairman Tom Carper (D-DE) commissioning a "study" on the issue was offered in a two-faced effort to give cover to anti-gunners.

The fact is that the postal gun ban doesn't need "study."  It has been in effect since 1972.  Beginning in 1983, a series of post office shootings against unarmed victims who were nothing but "sitting ducks" were so tragic and pervasive that they gave rise to the term "going postal."

To his credit, Senator Paul didn’t want to settle for a mere study and kept pushing to get his amendment passed. This later resulted in anemic language that allows some concealed carry -- but only in postal parking lots and only for some gun owners.

That language passed unanimously and is now included in S. 1486.

That several Democrats on the committee were wary of allowing guns inside the actual post office buildings shows just how out-of-step they are with the American people -- and the law-enforcement community.

In a nationwide poll of police officers by PoliceOne.com last year, over 90 percent surveyed “support the concealed carry of firearms by civilians,” and 80 percent of officers believed that legally-armed citizens would have “reduced the number of casualties in recent mass shootings.”

Senator Paul should be commended for his relentless push to get a concealed carry amendment passed -- even if the language that finally passed was anemic in nature.

The five Democrats who swung the vote to kill the initial pro-gun language (to allow guns in Post Office buildings) were Senators Pryor, Begich, Landrieu, Heitkamp and Tester.

How many more unarmed people will have to die in post offices because these five Democrats lied to their constituents when they said they supported the Second Amendment?

Hopefully, after November, the answer is "none."

ACTION:

(1) Contact Your Senators:  Contact your Senators and urge them to place a "hold" on S. 1486 because of the sleazy tactics which were used in committee to keep the gun ban in Post Office buildings on the books. (The “hold” is a parliamentary procedure that is used by Senators to slow down legislation.)

(2) For those who live in AK, AR, LA, MT or ND: Tell the following Senators -- Mark Begich, Mark Pryor, Mary Landrieu, Jon Tester or Heidi Heitkamp -- that they have now proven that they lied to you when they pretended to support the Second Amendment.

Texas man will NOT be charged for fatal shooting of sheriff's deputy who entered home with search warrant

No charges: A local grand jury declined Wednesday to indict Henry Goedrich Magee for the December death of Burleson County Sgt. Adam Sowders

A Central Texas man who shot and killed a sheriff's deputy entering his home will not be charged with capital murder, attorneys said Thursday.

A local grand jury declined Wednesday to indict Henry Goedrich Magee for the December death of Burleson County Sgt. Adam Sowders, who was part of a group of investigators executing a search warrant for Magee's rural home.

Sowders and other officers entered the home about 90 miles northwest of Houston without knocking just before 6 a.m. Authorities were looking for guns and marijuana.

Magee's attorney, Dick DeGuerin, said his client thought he was the victim of a home invasion, reached for a gun and opened fire.

Kentucky: Bill to allow temporary concealed carry for domestic violence victims

"I know of instances where people have owned and possessed a gun but had to wait up to 90 days to receive a permit from the state" says Sen Jared Carpenter, sponsor of SB106 (Photo credit: Facebook)
“I know of instances where people have owned and possessed a gun but had to wait up to 90 days to receive a permit from the state” says Sen Jared Carpenter, sponsor of SB106
Common sense re-surfaces.

A Kentucky bill that would grant victims of domestic violence a temporary concealed carry permit passed the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday and now heads to the floor for a second reading.
Senate Bill 106 would allow a person protected by an emergency protective order or a domestic violence order to carry, if authorized by the issuing court, a concealed deadly weapon for a 90-day period. Although the bill would fast track the process, those who are granted the short-term status must meet the same requirements as those who obtain a standard carry permit.

Something old. Something New. Black on white crime.

I find and document a lot of black mob violence and black on white crime. But I miss more than I catch. And few are more disturbing than this crime, this court room scene, and what followed this week, three years later.

Seandell Jackson killed Nathan Potter in Milwaukee in 2009.  Jackson was a convicted felon who had shot someone a few hours before he shot Potter. For the same reason: Of course it was a robbery, but he told the judge he thought he was “having fun.”

Potter was college student at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. By all accounts a gentle soul. A free spirit.

Firearms merchants address gun, ammo shortages

Via Bill

Doc Blanchard, owner of Doc's Gun Barn

I guess he doesn't consider ARs/AKs for self defense and he's been in business for 36 years?  Maybe he means for a CCW weapon as that's about the only thing that makes sense.
The demand for assault-style weapons is waning and shooters want self-defense weapons, which are in short supply. Blanchard said he’s turned to alternate vendors and sources to supply his store.
 ***************************************

Four out of five local weapons and ammunition sellers say shortages caused by government stockpiling, panic buying and hoarding are making it difficult to get stock, and one store now limits purchases to meet local demand.

Arkie Clapier, sporting goods manager at CAL Ranch Store in Pocatello said the store limits the purchase of .22-caliber shells to one brick — 525 rounds — per customer.

“We are in the hoarding mentality,” Clapier said. “Ammo is hard to get and guns are hard to get right now.”

A brick of .22 shells ranges in cost from $19.95 to $24.95 depending on the manufacturer — a cost increase of about $2 and $4 per brick.

'Impotent toy' triggers school boy's suspension

Zero tolerance = Zero brains.

Mere presence results in 'intimidation, interrogation, accusations'

On the heels of a court argument that the mere presence of an inanimate gun was no reason for fearful police to conduct a no-knock raid on a home in Texas comes a case where a school boy was suspended for the presence of an “impotent toy” in his jacket pocket.

Officials with the Rutherford Institute have written a letter to officials to the public school system in Chicago, which has among the most restrictive gun limits in the nation, about the case involving student Caden Cook, 11.

He was suspended for finding that he inadvertently had left a plastic toy gun in his jacket pocket, which he wore to school. He decided to turn it in to officials when he found it.

“This case speaks volumes about what’s wrong with our public schools and public officials: rather than school officials showing they are capable of exercising good judgment, distinguishing between what is and is not a true threat, and preserving safety while steering clear of a lockdown mindset better suited to a prison environment, they instead opted to exhibit poor judgment, embrace heavy handed tactics, and treat a toy gun like a dangerous weapon,” said John W. Whitehead, chief of the organization.

GOP proposal would require food stamp recipients to show photo ID

It's racistssssss.............................................:)

Several House Republicans have introduced a proposal that would require food stamp recipients to show photo identification when making purchases -- a move they say is necessary to prevent fraud in the program that aids 1 in 7 Americans.

Rep. Matt Salmon, R-Ariz., introduced the SNAP Verify Act, which would require individuals who receive acceptance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to present a photo ID when buying products at stores that accept food stamp recipients.

"My bill simply requires the photo identification of authorized users of SNAP electronic benefit cards at the point of transaction," Salmon said in a statement. "With over $750 million in SNAP card and food trafficking fraud each year, it is time Congress take action to address the rampant waste in this program."

Russia snubs Obama with torch-lighting

Good, now if he would only climb a tree and leave us alone.

Russia chose a lawmaker and former figure skater who tweeted a racially charged photo of President Obama to light the Olympic cauldron on Friday.

Irina Rodnina made international headlines last September when she sent out a doctored photo of Obama and first lady Michelle Obama appearing to stare at a banana.

 Embedded image permalink

The photo outraged the Obama administration and prompted U.S. Ambassador Michael McFaul to denounce Rodnina's "outrageous behavior, which only brings shame to her parliament and country.”

Opposition leader Alexei Navalny retweeted the photo, with the caption: “Look at the jokes Russian MPs make.”

Rodnina erased the tweet soon after but defiantly refused to apologize.

“Freedom of speech is freedom of speech, and you should answer for your own hang-ups,” she wrote at the time.

NC: General Hoke – The Stonewall of Forks Road

 http://www.blairpub.com/images/Covers/General_Hoke.gif

General Hoke – The Stonewall of Forks Road

A living history occurs today February 8, 2014 at the remnants of the Forks Road battle site behind the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington.

Here, General Robert F. Hoke’s entrenched division held off repeated and futile attacks by US Colored Troops.  Hoke could not be dislodged and only because of the fall of Fort Anderson across the Cape Fear River, and the immediate threat of enemy forces reaching Wilmington to his rear, was Hoke forced to withdraw.

****************************

The Northern force opposing Hoke was being guided by Jacob Horne, a local man who betrayed his State, family and brother -- the latter was among Hoke’s defenders. On February 20th, Northern forces opposing Hoke’s spread-out 3000 men numbered about 8500 and in probing his position, sent five US Colored Troop (USCT) regiments comprising 1600 men in repeated and near-suicidal assaults that day and the next, getting no closer to Hoke's breastworks than 150 yards.

As Hoke’s lines were stretched out, the brunt of the Northern attack was received by General Clingman’s Brigade of North Carolinians, numbering about 900 men, under Colonel Devane.

It is notable that Clingman's command included Captain Lippitt's 51st North Carolina that routed the 54th Massachusetts at Battery Wagner, near Charleston, in July 1863.  According to Chris Fonvielle’s The Wilmington Campaign, “Clingman’s [Brigade] fire ravaged [the USCT] brigade with continuous volleys of musketry, while the Rebel artillery assisted with barrages of iron case shot.” The attackers were swept off the field by a murderous fire from the Wilmington Horse Artillery’s 6 and 12-pounders. Realizing further attacks would be futile, the black troops “promptly erected a defensive line” at the front while white Pennsylvania troops were entrenched a half-mile to the rear.”

At Forks Road, the Northern gunboats were out of range and could not effectively support the attack of the USCT, which helped ensure the failure of the assault. Several Northern gunboats grounded in the shallows of the Cape Fear River below Wilmington, and lighter craft were severely damaged or driven off by the strong artillery batteries Lee, Campbell, Meares and Davis just south of the city and effectively anchoring Hoke’s western flank. The Northern transport Thorn blew up in the river after striking a submerged torpedo at Orton Cove, one of twenty known to have been strategically placed to destroy invading enemy ships.

Despite Hagood’s defeat at Town Creek making Hoke’s position at Forks Road increasingly untenable, Wilmington’s defenders defiantly floated mines downriver to surprise Northern gunboats, killing several sailors and nearly sinking the transport Osceola. Late in the evening of the 20th, Hoke telegraphed the approaching General William J. Hardee that with his two brigades soon in Wilmington, the city may yet be saved from the invader. On February 21, Hoke was resolutely holding his impregnable position in hopes that Hardee’s brigades would soon arrive, but General Braxton Bragg, Hoke’s superior, had already telegraphed Hardee and advised him to avoid Wilmington. Bragg was concerned that the Wilmington railroad line was soon to be severed, and instead sent Hardee from Florence on to Cheraw, South Carolina.”  Read more at: http://www.cfhi.net/TheBattleofForksRoad.php

                                                             Thursday, 8 May 10-6

Course description:

Operations Security (OPSEC) is as old as war itself.  Yet poor OPSEC
continues to cost human lives both in clandestine operations against
hostile adversaries as well as in every day life against irregular
threats like criminals.  What's more is that as the future of Liberty
dims, OPSEC is now of critical importance to Patriots across the nation.

The best way to keep a secret is to deny that a secret exists in the
first place.  Although you're likely unaware, you provide indicators of
your capabilities and intent every day.  And indicators are pieces of a
puzzle waiting to be put together to identify vulnerabilities.

Join Sam Culper as he teaches OPSEC from the Patriot perspective, and
learn how to protect yourselves, your preparations, and your community
from irregular and conventional threats.  Learning objectives include:

- Threat identification.

- Denying information to the threat.

- Masking indicators of friendly activity.

- Disinformation, Deception and other Countermeasures.

Cache, Anyone?

The Resistance in your AO has signaled the need for sustainment supply. Real-time comms are virtually non-existent, so you have to make your best judgment as to what to put into the standard resupply container - a sealed 1 gallon paint can. So as to make the opening and evaluation of your work easier, DO NOT weatherproof your container, but instead simply write out how you would conceal it from prying eyes and weather.

A $5 donation towards PATCON costs will get you entered. Max Velocity will assess each entry, give feedback, and choose the winner, who will receive their choice of either 250 rounds 5.56x45 M193 or 200 rounds of 7.62x51 SA ball.

Generic photos

Think carefully about what you would include and why. What might differ about what you include depending on other circumstances? What other easily obtained and disguised watertight container might you use?

Someday, this exercise may not be a drill...
