George Orwell Explains in a Revealing 1944 Letter Why He’d Write 1984

Via Ninety Miles From Tyranny

I must say I believe, or fear, that taking the world as a whole these things are on the increase. Hitler, no doubt, will soon disappear, but only at the expense of strengthening (a) Stalin, (b) the Anglo-American millionaires and (c) all sorts of petty fuhrers of the type of de Gaulle. All the national movements everywhere, even those that originate in resistance to German domination, seem to take non-democratic forms, to group themselves round some superhuman fuhrer (Hitler, Stalin, Salazar, Franco, Gandhi, De Valera are all varying examples) and to adopt the theory that the end justifies the means. Everywhere the world movement seems to be in the direction of centralised economies which can be made to ‘work’ in an economic sense but which are not democratically organised and which tend to establish a caste system.

With this go the horrors of emotional nationalism and a tendency to disbelieve in the existence of objective truth because all the facts have to fit in with the words and prophecies of some infallible fuhrer. Already history has in a sense ceased to exist, ie. there is no such thing as a history of our own times which could be universally accepted, and the exact sciences are endangered as soon as military necessity ceases to keep people up to the mark. Hitler can say that the Jews started the war, and if he survives that will become official history. He can’t say that two and two are five, because for the purposes of, say, ballistics they have to make four. But if the sort of world that I am afraid of arrives, a world of two or three great superstates which are unable to conquer one another, two and two could become five if the fuhrer wished it. That, so far as I can see, is the direction in which we are actually moving, though, of course, the process is reversible.

Gun owner unarmed, unwelcome in Maryland

Via The Lonely Libertarian

John Filippidis, silver-haired family man, business owner, employer and taxpayer, is also licensed to carry a concealed firearm.

He’d rather he didn’t feel the need, “but things aren’t like they used to be. The break-ins, the burglaries, all the crime. And I carry cash a lot of the time. I’m constantly going to the bank.

“I wanted to be able to defend my family, my household and the ground I’m standing on. But I’m not looking for any trouble.”

Filippidis keeps his gun — a palm-sized Kel-Tec .38 .380 semiautomatic, barely larger than a smartphone in a protective case — in one of two places, always: in the right-hand pocket of his jeans, or in the safe at home.

“There are kids in the house,” Filippidis says, “and I don’t think they’d ever bother with it, but I don’t want to take any chances.”

He’s not looking for any trouble, after all.

Trouble, in fact, was the last thing on his mind a few weeks back as the Filippidises packed for Christmas and a family wedding in Woodridge, N.J., so he left the pistol locked in the safe. The state of Florida might have codified his Second Amendment rights, but he knew he’d be passing through states where recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions affirming the rights of individuals to keep and bear arms have been met by hostile legislatures and local officials.

“I know the laws and I know the rules,” Filippidis says. There are, after all, ways gun owners can travel legally with firearms through hostile states. “But I just think it’s a better idea to leave it home.”

Islam and the Survival of the West: The Deep Roots of the Middle East Conflicts: Part 8 of a Series

“Every problem in our region can be traced to this single dilemma: the occupation of Dar al-Islam by Jewish infidels or Western imperialists…The everlasting struggle between Ishmael and Isaac cannot cease until one of the other is utterly vanquished.”

-Hashemi Rafsanjani
President of Iran (1989-1997)
December 19, 1989

In Islamic theology “Dar al-Islam” is the “house of submission” or the nations under Muslim government. “Dar al-Harb” is the “house of war” or the nations not yet under Muslim government.

The Middle East was the birthplace of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Muslims believe that their Arabian spiritual predecessors and their Prophet, Muhammad, are descended from Ishmael, Abraham’s son by his wife Sarah’s female Egyptian servant, Hagar. Both Abraham and Sarai (later Sarah) were old and despaired of God’s promise to give them a son. Taking things into their own hands, they devised a plan to accomplish God’s promise by having Abraham impregnate Hagar. Later Sarah became jealous of Hagar and dealt so harshly with her that she fled. But God compassionately sought her in the wilderness and advised her to return to Sarah.  In addition, He gave her this promise in Genesis 16: 11-12:

“Behold you are pregnant and shall bear a son. You shall name him Ishmael, because the Lord has listened to your affliction. He shall be a wild donkey of a man, his hand against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he shall dwell over against all his kinsmen.”

Ishmael was circumcised at the age of thirteen at the same time as Abraham and all his male servants. But God again promised to bless Abraham through Sarah with a son who should be named Isaac. In Genesis 17: 19-21 God clarifies his promises for both Isaac and Ishmael:

“…Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.  As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold I have blessed him and will make him fruitful and multiply him greatly.  He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him into a great nation. But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this time next year.”

Later Sarah again became jealous, and on God’s advice, Abraham reluctantly sent Hagar and Ishmael away, where God rescued them from perishing in the wilderness. He again promised Hagar that Ishmael would be the father of a great nation. Hagar found Ishmael an Egyptian wife, and he dwelled in Paran, probably near the northern end of the Gulf of Aqaba on the Sinai Peninsula.  He became an expert with the bow. Finally, in Genesis 25, we note that both Isaac and Ishmael buried their father, Abraham.

Although the Muslim and Biblical views of the relationship between Ishmael and Isaac are by no means the same, it is evident that there is a deep spiritual and cultural conflict underpinning the constant strife in the Middle East.

By the “Middle East,” political geographers usually mean Palestine (including Israel), Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Iraq, Iran (or Persia), Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt, and the nations on the Arabian Peninsula (the largest being Saudi Arabia) and the Persian Gulf.  Often the definition is extended to include Ethiopia, Somalia, the Sudan, and sometimes the Arab-Muslim nations of North Africa. With the exception of Israel and Lebanon, the people of all these nations are overwhelmingly Muslim. In 1953 approximately fifteen percent of the population of the Middle East was Christian. That figure has now dropped to two percent.

Besides being the birthplace of the world’s principal religions, the Middle East was also the birthplace of its earliest civilizations, preceding Chinese civilization by several centuries. The Sumerian, Babylonian, Egyptian, Assyrian, and Persian empires arose, flourished, and died there. Alexander the Great briefly established Greek cultural and military dominance there. The Romans conquered and governed much of the area for several centuries. They controlled Judea in the time of Christ and in 70 AD destroyed Jerusalem and dispersed the Jews. The Romans withdrew in the Fourth Century to defend their empire from onslaught by waves of Germanic-speaking barbarians from Northern and Central Europe. Rule of the eastern half of the Roman Empire including the Middle East then fell to the Greek-Christian Byzantium Empire in Constantinople. By the Fifth Century, Christianity became the dominant religion of the Middle East from Turkey and Egypt on the West to the Euphrates River in Iraq on the East.

In the Seventh Century, Islam came, conquering and converting by the sword. Between 634 and 642 AD they conquered all the Middle East except Western Turkey and Constantinople. Within two hundred years they had by oppression or force converted or driven out the Christian majority.  Late in the Eleventh Century, Christian Crusaders attempted to halt the spread of Islam and regain the formerly Christian lands of the Middle East. Although successful at first, the Crusaders were driven out of Jerusalem by 1187, and the last Crusader kingdom was crushed by 1291. The Muslim Ottoman Turks captured the last Byzantine stronghold, Constantinople itself, in 1453. Turkish Muslims thus displaced Arab Muslims as the dominant power in the Middle East until the end of the First World War in 1918.

The Turkish Ottoman Empire allied itself with Germany in 1914. With the defeat of Germany and Turkey in 1918, the British and French then proceeded to break up the Ottoman Empire and concluded a secret treaty to divide control of the Middle East between themselves. In the Balfour Declaration that same year, the British also promised Jewish Zionists in Europe that they would help create a Jewish homeland in Palestine. The problem was that Palestine had been predominantly Arab and Muslim for over 700 years. Massive Jewish immigration into their former homeland was met with fierce Arab resentment.

Why, that there's crazy talk. Poor, yes, but mothers don't off their offspring? And they're married to their children's fathers? Poor, but more law abiding? And guns, lots of guns, but far less violence than most anywhere else? No flash mobs, knockout games or drive-by shootups? How odd. Same circumstances as Newark, lower crime than Minneapolis. Voters who still support Progressives - People who support criminal activity become accessories to the crime. That means you, yourself, are a criminal. My friend, you need to do some deep, serious soul searching. You need to understand the gravity of your position. You cannot claim any regard for morality or ethics or spirituality of ANY kind if your heart is so corrupt that you can fully embrace the deception and debauchery of the present administration and their allies in Congress.

If we have forgotten that constraint, let me assure you that our enemies have not, from the Taliban to the drug cartels to the Iranian Quds Force.

The white-flowered plant, which can be fermented into a poisonous wine, was well-known to the Greeks as a herbal treatment... The symptoms caused by consuming the plant also fit with the description of what Alexander experienced over the 12 days before he died.

Experimenting with Federally-Occupied State Governments

http://scvcamp133.webs.com/AllenPainting.jpg

The express purpose of the Northern invasion and occupation of Louisiana in 1862 was to forcibly hold the State in the Northern union, and through the imposition of a military-directed civil government. Despite the State already having a freely-elected legislature and governor, the Northern Congress proclaimed them criminals and supervised the establishment of a new administration under military control.  The Michael Hahn mentioned below was a German immigrant to New York and then Texas, and a prewar import to Louisiana.
Bernhard Thuersam, Chairman
North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial Commission

Experimenting with Federally-Occupied State Governments

“Louisiana’s situation was particularly bad because from the time that General Benjamin F. Butler and his troops came to New Orleans on May 1, 1862, south Louisiana was lost to the Confederacy.

The loss of control of the Mississippi River isolated most of Louisiana and Texas.  And while the war was going on in other places the Federal government was already experimenting with the “redemption” of Louisianians.

By January, 1864, Federal forces occupying Louisiana were intent upon effecting a civil government through which they could enact laws and render conditions amicable to their interests.  On January 11, General N.P. Banks issued a proclamation ordering an election of State officials in federally-occupied Louisiana.  By “federally-occupied,” he acknowledged the division within the State.

In the meantime, Governor [Thomas O.] Moore delivered his farewell address, and on January 25 Henry Watkins Allen was inaugurated . . . governor of Louisiana.  On March 4, Michael Hahn was inaugurated governor of Federal Louisiana . . . [and] the reality of two State administrations was a source of despair [for Louisianians].

The Union army captured Fort DeRussey and the interior of Alexandria and Natchitoches in March of 1864.  A convention was held in New Orleans of April 6 to draft a constitution for federally-occupied Louisiana . . . [and on] July 23, 1864, a Republican convention revised the constitution and abolished slavery.  On October 12, a resolution of [the US] Congress ordered the attorney general to institute criminal proceedings against all members of the 1860 Louisiana legislature who had voted for the Convention of Secession.

O June 2, 1865, Governor Allen delivered a farewell proclamation to the people of Louisiana and went into exile in Mexico . . . “

You Have to Play This 1,600-Year-Old Viking War Game: Especially if you’re a diplomat, soldier or spy, says one ex-spook

Via Ryan

Viking warriors storm into the torch-lit camp of a rival clan. Outnumbered, the ambushed Norsemen are far from their boats. Their one goal: flee to a nearby castle while keeping their king alive.

At first glance, Hnefatafl (prounounced “nef-ah-tah-fel”) might just look like a knock-off version of chess with Norse helms and impressive beards, but the game is at least 600 years older—already well-known by 400 A.D.—and is perhaps a lot more relevant to the conflicts of the 21st century.

“I love the asymmetry in this game. To win in this game, you absolutely have to think like your opponent,” emails Kristan Wheaton, a former Army foreign area officer and ex-analyst at U.S. European Command’s Intelligence Directorate. “Geography, force structure, force size and objectives are different for the two sides. If you can’t think like your opponent, you can’t win. I don’t know of a better analogy for post-Cold War conflict.”

A CASE FOR THE WHITE CHILDREN OF SOUTH AFRICA

SPECIFICALLY THE ORPHANS

Since 1994 with the take-over of the Christian ruled South Africa by the communist-terrorist-atheist-murderous African National Congress (please do not be deceived by the “national” in African National Congress, there is nothing national about this organization) the country became a cesspool of murder, torture, rape and corruption, every evil written in the handbook of communism-bolshevism.

More than 80,000 White people have been tortured and murdered since 1994 thousands upon thousands of blacks suffered the same treatment. It is like we who have studied communism that in every communist country it is only the elite who benefit the raping of the riches of the country they destroyed. South Africa has lost her soul and reaping more than the whirlwind of this horrible change forced on her population.

Race-Baiting 101: The Common Core on Civil Rights

The progressive takeover of the public schools—dreamed up by John Dewey and put into practice over the course of at least the last sixty years—has produced nothing other than absurdity, superficiality, and political bias in the nation’s classrooms. So utterly impoverished has become the quality of schooling and the nation’s conversation about it, that whenever a so-called “reform” comes into existence—engineered by the same folks who brought us school failure in the first place—we can hardly recognize it for the shell game that it is and the continued decline that it will produce.

Eileen Flynn did an article for Cox News Service on October 20, 2008 in which she said: “According to the Faith in Public Life survey, younger evangelicals are more likely than their elders to support bigger government with more services and show more support for diplomacy versus military strength abroad.” Now I have no problem with genuine diplomacy, although I don’t think we get much of that anymore, and I think it’s long past time that America should quit trying to be the world’s policeman.

All that has done is to cost us American lives and much financial loss as well as the loss of good will around the world. Of course the multi-nationals are reaping big profits while everyone else suffers. As they say, follow the money. What bothers me is the seeming evangelical willingness to go along with more and bigger government.

Our History: The Mother of Confederate Reunions

Via SHNV

This video is from the documentary "Echoes from the Blue and Grey" and shows various Civil War veterans enjoying reunion events.   When I was in the classroom I used to show videos like this to students....and invariably one or two of my little sweethearts would wonder how in the world those old men could fight a war.

Of course, they weren't old men during those years the war was fought – far from it, but for many years after the war they continued to get together for reunions.

The website for The Center for Civil War Research explains:

More @ Douglasville Patch

My husband was killed at Winchester, Virginia, in 1864, and is buried there in the beautiful Stonewall Cemetery.  I had to toil to support and school my children and keep the wolf from the door.

Must my children and the children of other brave men who fought and died for the love of home be branded as children of rebels and traitors?

Must the men who were spared with their children be branded as rebels and traitors for all time?

Must the finger of scorn be pointed at these men and their children for having fought for our cause and homes?  Must they be disgraced as were the Tories who fought for King George in the Revolution?  No, no, a thousand times no!

The cause was just and right and by the help of God I vowed to teach this to my children and to call the men of our Company (A, 21st Georgia regiment) together, talk over the war and its incidents and charge them to teach their children for all time to come that the cause for which they fought was just and right; teach them to be proud of the part they took in the conflict; teach their children that we were overcome by numbers, three and five to one - not whipped, but overcome....

Eat More Venison: The Deer Meat Diet

It’s January. If you resolved to lose weight, forget the cotton ball diet. To become a lean, mean muscle machine: eat venison.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo feign to keep us healthy and safe by restricting our dietary choices and attacking our constitutional right to use guns for hunting and self-defense. Both men are dead wrong about health, hunting and guns.

Bloomberg chastises folks who slurp sugary soda pop while lambasting hunters who eat organic, lean, high-protein venison. Meanwhile, Cuomo has been known to holler at the top of his lungs: “No one needs 10 bullets to kill a deer!” Cuomo’s claim is completely irrelevant. You could need ten shots to defend yourself and your family from intruders.

Elites with an entourage of armed guards like Bloomberg and Cuomo prioritize their own political power over our health, safety and freedom. Here are some reasons why you should include more venison—and hunting—in your diet and lifestyle:

Texas gun show pulls plug; refuses to comply with Dems’ background checks

 gunshow0112

A regular gun show that has been a staple of Austin, Texas, since 2010 will end this month because its organizer refuses to obey local Democrats’ demands for background checks that go beyond state and federal laws.

“It is not really my job to infringe on anyone’s rights,” said Todd Beiter, the owner of Saxet Gun Shows, which has hosted gun shows at the Travis County Exposition Center for four years, according to the Austin American-Satesman.

The gun show set for Jan. 25-26 will go on because it has a lease on the site. The show won’t be held next year, though, because the contract will not be renewed.

At issue is the Travis County Commission Court’s demand that Saxet require background checks for private sales at the gun show.

In all of Corvette’s glorious history, there was never anything like the L88. It was solely intended for racing, and was so potent that Chevrolet actually actively discouraged its sale to the general public, even to the extent of understating its actual horsepower rating at 430 HP, less than the incredibly powerful L71 427/435 HP Tri-Power option; in reality, the L88’s figure approached 560 horses. The formula for the L88 engine was both simple and devastating: 4-bolt mains, forged crank, rods and pistons, 12.5:1 compression, aluminum heads with huge valves, a wild solid lifter cam and a gulping Holley 850 CFM 4-barrel double pumper on an aluminum intake.

There were no creature comforts, and it had to be ordered with transistor ignition, vacuum power brakes, a special master cylinder and dual pin brake calipers, heavy duty suspension, a Muncie M22 ”Rock Crusher” 4-speed and Positraction.

Left Erupts Over Congressman Daring to Say the Things Everyone Else is Too Afraid To Say

 http://www.nationofchange.org/sites/default/files/louieGohmertGunsProtestAgainstShariaLaw022213.jpeg

When Texas Representative Louie Gohmert (R) took to the House floor on the 50th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “War on Poverty,” he used the opportunity to speak a few truths that the Left is obviously too afraid to admit.

Although the welfare system makes life worse for the people it affects, liberals on the web and at MSNBC have begun denouncing saying he is “demonizing” these young women.

Opposition to welfare, in liberals’ eyes, means passing judgement on single mothers. It means acknowledging that their current situation is bad. And liberals can’t handle that reality.

Watch the entire video from beginning to end and see if he’s he’s “outraged,” “uncaring,” or “out-of-control.”  As a judge in Texas, Gohmert saw young, single mothers come before him, charged with welfare fraud. He explains that these women with no other options would drop out of high school and have children out of wedlock in order to receive checks from the government, courtesy of “The War on Poverty.”
