Juvenile detainees locked in controversial device ‘when verbal deescalation is not working’

ARKANSAS — Juvenile detention facilities across the state are coming under fire for using a disturbing restraint device that some are calling “torture.”

The device is known as the “WRAP” system. According to state officials, the device is used to restrain minor detainees “when verbal deescalation is not working” — sometimes for hours on end.

The system involves binding a child’s arms and legs together using straps and handcuffs, and sometimes involves shrouding the child’s face with a hood or a helmet.

  1. I feel deprived now. All I ever got was a sharp taster across the ass and the back of the legs with a flyswatter, yardstick or a belt.

  2. Seriously, they think this is okay. It might be fine if we want to train a generation of sociopaths.

  3. I agree with Badger. These kids will most likely someday be released back into society and just maybe the people placing these kids in such restraints may latter become a victim of revenge. I have no problem placing them in a restraint chair with a spit mask but this set up looks a bit over the top. The part that bothers me the most is the drawing on the mask of a non human face. Hmmmm.

  4. With alll due respect, I have to disagree with Badger. Sir I am of the opinion that we already have our generation sociopaths. It is merely a matter of degree. I do recall there was a time when:
    1) The singular terrifying statement that a female (eg a mother) could utter at a misbehaving child was; "Just wait till your father gets home!" It a certainty that you were going to be held accountable for your actions, and punishment for your misconduct was an absolute given. It was a done deal.
    2) I recall a time, when the public school systems had MALE teachers, many who were WW II or Korean vets. These were real men, and the metrosexual wimps we have now, who just by their bearing, showed they were THE alpha male in the class room. And if pushed, would make it known.
Once when I was in Jr high school, the (male) teacher, over heard me use a swear word in his class room. He called me out into the hall way, then slammed up against the wall locker and said; "Don't you EVER swear in my class room again!" As I walked back into the class room there was the supressed sound of giggling and the rapid look up and down glance from my class mates. Message was delivered, Lima Charlie. Nobody ever swore in his class room, again.
Now, it would done me zero good to have complained to my parents what that bad mean teacher did to me. Nope, Dad would have, at the minimal chewed my ass out for being disrespectul. stupid, and disgracing the family name.
Now we have kids growing up who literally have no clue who their father is, or even what he looks like.
