A SWAT officer died early Wednesday, a day after being wounded by a shotgun blast while attempting to force open a door during a pre-dawn raid at a Southern California home, authorities said.

Pomona Police Officer Shaun Diamond, 45, succumbed to his injuries at a Pasadena hospital, Chief Paul Capraro said in a statement.

The suspect in the shooting, David Martinez of San Gabriel, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer. He was jailed on $4 million bail, and it wasn't immediately known if he had a lawyer.

  1. Not much sympathy for the dead cop. The more thug cops killed on these no knock warrants maybe someone will wake up and stop them. Kicking in people’s door is a good way to die so tough luck.

    1. & we've seen videos of knock raids where they briefly knock and within seconds break down the door, because it wasn't answered immediately.

  2. Nah - this is probably what They(tm) want. more dad cops equals more reason to arm up - more reason to just gas a house first and then knock - you know - to be sure it's safe for entry. There have been zero push to stop no knocks because everyone involved is so sure of their intel that they just *know* they can never be wrong and end up attacking the wrong house. I mean - the crack dealer they have on tax payer retainer would never drop a dime on a rival dealer's family home to get revenge for lost business, right? Nahhh... never happen...
