Interesting that you should post this now. I just finished a book about pistol shooting and one of the things the author recommended was to load hollow base wad cutters backwards so the cup faces out. This seems to give almost double the expansion of a hollow point.
Since both ends of the bullet are relatively flat and the case is straight walled, there should be few issues with stress. I imagine that if someone could work up a hollow base wad cutter for rifle, loading it backwards would not produce as much stress at the neck as referenced in the video.

A concern the shooter did not address was the length of range and effectiveness and flight characteristic at range of a backward bullet. I could see a limited use for such a bullet knowing you will have to discard the cartridge as unusable.
It had never occurred to me, a reloader for many years, to try this. That's good empirical data and a thorough analysis. I believe his recommendation is correct.
