Obama administration forcing new gun buyers to declare race, ethnicity

The Obama administration quietly has been forcing new gun buyers to declare their race and ethnicity, a policy change that critics say provides little law enforcement value while creating the risk of privacy intrusions and racial profiling.

With little fanfare, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in 2012 amended its Form 4473 — the transactional record the government requires gun purchasers and sellers to fill out when buying a firearm — to identify buyers as either Hispanic, Latino or not. Then a buyer must check his or her race: Indian, Asian, black, Pacific Islander or white.

  1. To create a racial issue where none exists. Then to have a new "crisis" requiring more federal government intervention, and more taxes to pay for solving the manufactured problem.

  2. Hospitals have to ask you to provide your race and ethnicity when you seek services. This was done to ensure that there was no discrimination going on, and with all the mixed races out there, it is difficult for the one collecting the information to know what to put down - so, leave it to the patient to self-identify or decline to provide the information, which is okay. With gun purchases, what happens if you decline to provide this information to the gun seller? It looks like he could lose his business if the Feds so decide. Rules and forms that supersede Law - surprise surprise. The patron should have the option to decline - the form needs to be fixed to add 'Declined.'

    1. No. Just lie. Everyone answer "black". Then the form will be useless. Do the same on HUD forms when buying a house. That will prevent the HUD from planting section 8 minorities in your neighborhood in the future.

  4. I remember Tiger Woods responding to the "what race are you" question - well, my mom is from Thailand and my dad is black, white, Chinese, and Native American, so that makes me "Cablinasian."
