The Philippine military said Monday that a U.N. peacekeeping commander in the Golan Heights should be investigated for allegedly asking Filipino troops to surrender to Syrian rebels who had attacked and surrounded their camp.

Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang said he advised the 40 Filipino peacekeepers not to lay down their arms, and they defied the U.N. peacekeeping commander’s order. Instead, they staged a daring escape from the Golan camp over the weekend, ending a tense, dayslong standoff.

  2. I believe we had a young soldier also defy a UN order - can't remember where he was stationed overseas, but was supposed to put on the UN hat and he refused to do it - said he signed up to defend the USA and not work for the UN - he was court martialed. Anyone remember that incident? Good for this General Catapang - he has more sense than anyone in our Govt.

    2. He was prosecuted by the US military for defying the orders of his American commander. The lowest ranking privates in teh Army don't get to choose which treaty obligations of the US government they will support and which they will decline. The fact is, there are no UN troops. There are troops from sovereign countries deployed on behalf of UN missions. Most of those peacekeeping missions are light duty with high pay, much higher pay than the troops get at home.

What makes this a "daring breakout?" Not a shot fired. looks like a simple abandonment of their post and handing it over to the enemy while they flee to safety. They declined to shoot at the Syrians and "make peace".

    3. When you are nothing but a mercenary, all you care about is the paycheck. What has made American troops unique, in my opinion, is their deep caring for each other First & Foremost (that's what keeps them alive), then Family (that's what gives them hope), then Country (Patriotism speaks to the Greater Good), and finally God who truly seemed to protect America as long as we remained a God-fearing and God-loving nation. The Country and God parts have been decimated by our PINO after a steady decline for many years -- he has kicked that all to the curb with shocking ease.

They were ordered to surrender by the worthless UN, did not and escaped. It obviously makes more sense to escape rather than surrender and daring doesn't necessarily involve gunfire.

  3. I agree with Roswell. It appears as though the toothless (unless it is dealing with Americans) UN is going to have a hard time pressing other nations to contribute troops to their feckless causes. I see where Ireland and a few other nations will be either recalling their troops or not committing them to begin with. And who can blame them? They KNOW how incompetent the UN is in all matters. It is a useless organization. Except when it comes to bashing the USA, or on Global Warming BS.

UN = Socialism Misleading the (Third) World.

  4. We not only put up with them, we house them and are a major funder. "We" look the other way and spirit them out the country when they are found involved in criminal behavior.

Anyone else sick of the shakedown of money launderers that are running the show?
Businesses being "fined" {taxed} to directly fund our own demise... $ being funneled from legitimate enterprises to the {communist} Democrat coiffeurs?

This can't be reconciled or righted in the courts. They are just as corrupt as the police, the politicians, the bureaucrats (un-elected), and enablers.
We get the rulers we deserve.
