FBI blasts Apple, Google for locking police out of phones

Via  avordvet

FBI Director James B. Comey sharply criticized Apple and Google on Thursday for developing forms of smartphone encryption so secure that law enforcement officials cannot easily gain access to information stored on the devices — even when they have valid search warrants.

His comments were the most forceful yet from a top government official but echo a chorus of denunciation from law enforcement officials nationwide. Police have said that the ability to search photos, messages and Web histories on smartphones is essential to solving a range of serious crimes, including murder, child pornography and attempted terrorist attacks.

  1. If the government had not ignored the Constitution and abused their power this would not have happened. Secret court my a$$. And don't bet there isn't an NSA back door.

  3. Another thought, don't carry the damn things and "they" can't search what doesn't exist... Why people don't understand they are carry a government witness and confidential informant around with them 24/7. I never understand...

  5. If it hasn't already happened it will soon.....a black sedan with .gov plates pulls up in front of corporate HQ. Four men in black suits and sunglasses enter and head straight to the boardroom where they gather the company brass. They then inform them that they WILL put a backdoor into their product for the use of the government or they WILL be arrested. And they will find that the wheels of the legal system will move EXCEEDINGLY slow for them. They might even die of old age before they get to court. And oh....by the way....if you tell ANYONE about this visit you WILL end up held incommunicado for violating national security directives till "the war on terror" is over. POOF....instant cooperation by the companies.

    1. They should be met with overwhelming gun fire.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"

  6. Denver Post today details how city is paying 1.8 million to a family whose home was invaded without a warrant, all residents punched and beaten and handcuffed before the cops realized it was the wrong house. This has happened all over.

The camps are ready. Who is ready to burn in them? Not I. Like the Fighting Peshmerga Women of Turkey, I'd rather die in my wheel chair than burn in a camp.

Now if the cops had to pay that, we'd be getting somewhere.
