Cops Arrest 76-Year Old Veteran For Town Meeting ‘Outburst’: “I Asked Them To Speak Louder So We Could Hear”

 overholt

Eddie Overholt was attending his second county board meeting last Friday when he was arrested by police for interfering with a public meeting and resisting arrest for the dastardly act of asking county officials to speak up so that the audience could hear the proceedings.

According to 76-year old Overholt and others present at the meeting, the board had assembled around a table at the front of the room. Some city officials were turned with their backs facing the crowd making it difficult to hear what was being said.

Members of the audience began interrupting the proceedings with shouts, laughter, applause and complaints that they couldn’t hear, at which point the mayor warned the next outburst would lead to someone being removed from the building.

At this point Overholt, who had been making his way to the front of the room, addressed the mayor and the board and said, “would y’all speak up so the audience can hear you?”

The mayor subsequently ordered the local police chief to remove him from the building, to which Overholt protested that he was attending a public meeting and needed to hear, not just ‘look’ at what was happening.

In a statement posted to Facebook Overholt explained that, as he was being walked to  jail, the arresting officer added another charge for resisting arrest:

  2. Frustrated- had to work way too hard to figure out where this happened. Looks like it was Tennessee. Am I right?

  3. School board meetings are the same way, only they don't turn around and speak, they call executive session and just throw everyone out.

What was the initial charge of his expulsion? Disorderly conduct, I'm sure. A lot of cops intentionally push buttons to get a response in order to arrest or charge you with disorderly.
The mayor "ordered" the cops to remove the guy.
This is why the rule of law is dead. The mayor has no authority over the police force. They are not the praetorian guard. Or at least, they shouldn't be.

I hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

  4. Sounds a lot like my home town. Newspaper reporter was escorted out & arrested for telling some on the council that their actions were illegal. Judge threw it out. Reporter was told by the Chief of police not to come to any more meetings. He's scared. Now the paper fired him. I accused the Chief of being a child molester (17 yr. old. girl) & asked for an investigation. He resigned. County sheriff (useless) won't investigate this prick either. I told this all in our local paper & now they won't print anything I send them. Fug 'em. Somebody got to them. I'm watching every move they make now & they know it. People are waking up. TPTB won't do anything yet, but they know, we know. They're being a lot more careful now. Climb their ass! Show no fear! Be loud about it. They're pussy's at heart. It's actually quite amusing.

  5. The fellow is lucky he wasn't summarily executed for the high crime of, "Kontempt of Kop", and then had his dogs killed, too.

  6. If I were Overholt, once I was released, i'd start making it real clear that these officials weren't above reproach. He's at the end of his life, why not make a statement that cuts deep? ;) Of course, i'm not him, so i'm just spitballin.
