The story was that he was photographing a number of them from a distance when this one approached and evidently he thought it best to do as he did instead of running. I would have jumped up high waving my arms and screaming like if I had encountered a bear.
That incident cost the elk it's life it was put down by the park service. It made the newspaper. A sad loss of a beautiful animal due to human stupidity.
I hope this little elk was not murdered because of the man's encouragement.
