The same picture could be taken today on some streets in Saigon.

  1. I loved riding around Saigon in those things!

It's how I went to church each Sabbath, and how I went to the Vietnamese American Friendship Club, and the My Canh floating restaurant, and the Saigon zoo, and the intersection of Cong Ly and Nguyen Hue (the heart of Saigon where EVERYTHING was).

Howard Hickman, who lives in the Bay Area of California, and hosts the PHU LAM SIGNAL BATTALION web site (Google it), PURCHASED one of those cyclos a few years ago, and has posted photographs for all to see.

The Phu Lam Signal Battalion of the First Signal Brigade, located adjacent to Cho Lon and Tan Son Nhut in the Saigon metropolitan area, was my first duty station when I arrived in the old Republic of Viet Nam.

Ah, the memories - - - and the Kodak Instamatic camera photographs.

    1. I did too, but the Cycle Mais were my favorite. Now the My Canh was a favorite also, especially the brown with beef rice they brought out in an enclosed earthen bowl. Most excellent. The restaurant is gone and the ones that are there now do not have it. A crying shame.
