Courage

Courage means, in the last moment of life, to still show allegiance to the thought for which one stood and fell.

--Ernst Junger

Our duty is to hold on to the lost position, without hope, without rescue, like that Roman soldier whose bones were found in front of a door in Pompeii, who, during the eruption of Vesuvius, died at his post because they forgot to relieve him. That is greatness. That is what it means to be a thoroughbred. The honorable end is the one thing that can not be taken from a man."

Rhodesia/Zimbabwe - Farmers deliberately erected "cover positions" for the terrorists to use outside the fence, which were then blown up upon attack. A particular favourite was a section of plastic piping filled with nails, nuts, bolts, screws and so forth... Out buildings were often fitted which screens of thin steel or wood the provide false cover to intruders who would have to stand behind the sheets to fire around the corners of buildings but could easily be picked off if they did, by firing through their cover.

Democratic legislators from the Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change announced on Nov. 20 that they will host major sports league officials in "a closed-door discussion" ... Congressmen told the sports leagues that they had "a moral obligation to act."... The majority of these leagues have also partnered with George Soros-funded lobbyists to promote a left-wing environmental agenda. [How 'bout they shut up and play the game?]

Note to Bloomberg - Maybe we're tired of watching people strip a store to the walls when the EBT system malfunctions and can't verify balances on "food assistance" cards -- so in response those who "need help" run up $700 worth of groceries with a 49 cent available balance. Maybe we're tired of watching people on said assistance buy lobster and fillet, then push their overflowing buggy outside and get into a brand new $50,000 SUV.

When you have police not only acquiring the gear of American soldiers, but also the mindset of an army occupying hostile territory ... the American citizen is no longer seen as an employer or master to be served by public servants like police officers. With police playing the part of soldiers on the battlefield and the American citizen left to play the part of an enemy combatant, it's a pretty safe bet that this particular exercise in the absurd will not have a happy ending.

Employees who qualify for mediCAL (the California version of Medicare), which is most of my employees, will automatically be enrolled in the Federal SNAP program. They cannot opt out. They cannot decline. They will be automatically enrolled in the Federal food stamp program based upon their level of Obamacare qualification. Remember, these people work full time, living in a small town in California. They are not seeking assistance. It all seems like a joke.

The media has shown that Obama's lie was no isolated incident by lying about the lie for the same reason that he told the lie. The health plan lie wasn't the lie of one politician protecting his reputation; it was the big lie of a liberal establishment protecting its agenda.

Immigrants from Africa - Look at some of these places they migrate from - they are pretty fantastic countries. They have fertile soils, good access to seaports, resources easily harvested for sale and pleasant weather. The only problem back home was not with the soil there at all. The soil was just fine. The problem lay elsewhere.

African state of Angola bans Islam and will destroy all the mosques

Unknown

By popular demand, Angolan authorities have taken pre-emptive action and decided to ban the Muslim religion, which they consider a cult, NOT a religion. They see what Muslims are doing to Christians, especially in Africa, and are taking steps to prevent the same from happening in Angola.

Xibaaru  In early October 2013, the Muslims living in Luanda in the municipality of Viana Zango were shocked to see the minaret of their mosque dismantled into pieces on the ground without permission. On Thursday 03 October in the morning, the Angolan authorities decided to destroy the mosque Zango located in the urban district of Viana 17 km. The governor of Luanda Bento announced in a radio spot that radical Muslims are not welcome in Angola and the Angolan government is not ready for the legalization of mosques in Angola.

Near the end of September, the brass asked Schaff if he’d mind becoming the One-One, or assistant team leader. The brass wanted to put an overweight Special Forces sergeant from Germany who had a previous tour of duty with a Green Beret A-Team, but no experience in Laos, in the One-Zero slot simply because he had more rank. Schaff objected. He was quietly removed from the team and the senior SF Sergeant took command.
At that time, FOB 1 teams were being pushed hard to get on the ground. Thus, there was little or no time for social niceties. More important, with the new One-Zero, there was no dress rehearsal. No practice mission. And he had little or no respect for ST Alabama’s Vietnamese team members. He dismissed veteran SOG recon sergeants who tried to offer him advice about running missions across the fence. Among those who tried to talk to him were Spider Parks and Pat Watkins. Both were experienced One-Zeroes; both had been to Laos and both were respected SOG members at FOB 1.

When asked later about the team leader, Spider simply said he had shunned experienced counsel.”
The brass assigned ST Alabama to run a target just southwest of the A Shau Valley. Black, unaware of Schaff’s earlier discussions with the brass, was introduced to the new One-Zero and they were ordered to fly a visual reconnaissance over the target. Lynne M. Black Jr., posing at the range in Phu Bai. Note his unique vest, which he designed and a few others duplicated. (John S. Meyer photo) VRs were flown as close to the launch date as possible and usually in a small, single-engine observation aircraft flown by two Vietnamese pilots. In this case, the VR was a day or two before the target launch date of 5 October 1968. Black and the new One-Zero flew in the rear seat of the small aircraft.
The primary and secondary landing zones had been selected when the aircraft was hit by 12.7mm heavy machine gun fire.

Suddenly the cabin was sprayed with blood. A 12.7mm round had ripped through the floor, struck the co-pilot under the chin, hitting with such force that his helmet slammed against the ceiling and ricocheted into Black’s lap – still containing part of the co-pilot’s bloody head.

Islam and the Survival of the West: Hard Truth about Islamic Violence

http://frontpagemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/tours.jpg

Part 2 of a series

Mike Scruggs

Most Americans love their country. But that should not blind us to the moral and social chaos that is exploding all around us. Those who truly love their country do not welcome false teachings. False teachings inevitably have destructive consequences. Responsible leadership demands leaders who lead their people toward truth and away from error. Yet many prominent American political leaders of both parties are failing us in that regard. In recent decades, one of the most common misguided presumptions embraced by American political leaders in Washington—including our last three presidents—is that Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance. This counterfactual characterization of Islam is in blatant contradiction to the Koran, the teachings of Muhammad, and history. The West has a curious amnesia about Islam’s record of violent Jihad (holy war), coercion, and religious suppression. Muslim armies have twice come close to conquering much of Europe and making it Muslim, so we had best remove our rose-tinted glasses and take a hard look at both the ideology and the historical record of Islam’s aggressive expansion.

The historical record of Islamic expansion has clearly been both violent and coercive. In Medina, Muhammad had twenty-six named individuals murdered because of their “treachery” and resistance to the new faith. In 627 AD, he had from 600 to 900 men of the Jewish Banu Qurayza tribe slaughtered for treachery and refusal to submit to Islam. He first offered them the opportunity to convert to Islam, and when they refused, the slaughter ensued by the still favored Muslim method of severing their heads. Their wives and children were divided among the Muslims as slaves.

There is a long list of Muslim slaughters of unbelievers, especially Christians in the Near East and the Balkans and Hindus in India. These slaughters, however, have been conveniently swept under the rug to make way for an airbrushed, modern propaganda version of Islam. The reasons for this amnesia of the nature of Islam and Jihad are many, but heading the list is the huge economic importance of oil. Moreover, most Western nations have felt a need to balance Arab power against the competing power of the Soviet Union during the Cold war and the Russian Federation since then. In addition, there is the curious hatred of Western culture and all things Christian by modern liberal scholars in the West.

One of the most notorious campaigns of persecution and slaughter in the 20th Century took place in Turkish ruled Armenia beginning in 1894 and culminated in the slaughter of 1.5 million Armenian Christians during two well documented waves of genocidal terror in 1915-16 and 1922-24. Significantly, the Koran and teachings of Muhammad were used to justify this genocide. They had resisted Sharia Law by “treacherously” complaining of their subjugated status to foreigners. Yet except for the descendents of Armenian refugees in the West and a few Christian scholars, that genocide is seldom publicly remembered.

The same persecution and slaughter of Christians by Muslims is taking place in Sudan in the 21st century. Over two million Christians have been killed and over five million displaced from their homes. Thousands of Christians in Nigeria and Indonesia have also died for their faith—victims of the Jihad for Islamic dominance. Both the historical and modern lists of atrocities are too long to present here. Because of our dependence on Arab oil, international politics, and the curious alliance of modern liberalism with Islam, these ongoing atrocities do not get much press coverage. In most of American media and academia political correctitude trumps the truth. More often than not, the advocates of multiculturalism and political correctness strain every nerve to shout down the truth.

To help understand the nature of Islam, contrast the Golden Rule of the Bible, Mathew 7:12, with the Koran, Sura 2:190:

The Bible: “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”

The Koran: “The sacred month and the precincts are under the safeguard of reprisals; whoever offers violence to you, offer ye the like violence to him, and fear Allah, and know that Allah is with those that fear Him.”

There is a strong contrast in this verse of the Koran with the Golden Rule of the Bible and the teaching of Jesus to have love and patience even for your enemies. Seeing such a contrast, it is little wonder then that in predominantly Muslim countries we often find a culture of revenge. The events of September 11, 2001, were savage manifestations of this burning spirit of revenge and reprisal.

There is not now a Caliph in Islam. There is no one living who speaks with divine authority. There is no Pope or annual general assembly of elders or bishops to decide doctrinal issues. The Koran and the Sunna are definitive for the Moslem world. But we should not look at just a few verses of the Koran to make a judgment. Many verses of the Koran and even more so the teachings and example of Muhammad in the Sunna exalt the killing or humiliating subjugation of those who refuse to convert to Islam. Many “peace and tolerance” verses of Muhammad’s early ministry in Mecca have been abrogated by later Medina verses and thus have little weight in Islamic doctrine. The concept of Jihad as violent war against unbelievers is firmly entrenched in both the Koran and the Sunna. As Richard Weaver pointed out, “Ideas have consequences.” What you really believe predicts how you will act.

Many Western apologists for Islam argue about the meaning of Jihad or quote a single statement by Muhammad of questionable authenticity that spiritual struggle is more important than military struggle, but this does not alter the fact that military Jihad is frequently praised and exalted in the Koran, the sayings of Muhammad, current mainstream of Islamic theology, and popular Muslim opinion. There are various forms of Jihad including spiritual Jihad, but they are all related to the ultimate objective of universal Muslim religious and political dominance. Regardless, it would seem that military Jihad de facto trumps spiritual Jihad in the attention and honor given to it in both mainstream clerical and popular public opinion among Muslims. Islam is not just a religion. It is a totalitarian, revolutionary, and expansionist ideology.

Rare 8 Point Doe Shot in Minnesota

The 2013 deer season just got stranger.

Earlier this month we told you how Georgia hunter Sam Hogan took an albino buck.

Now comes word that a Minnesota hunter has taken an 8-point doe. That's right. An 8-point doe.
Phil Klein was hunting near his father in north-central Minnesota when he heard a doe bleating. At first the younger Mr. Klein believed the sound to be his father in a nearby stand. That wasn't the case.

"Five minutes later, this deer comes crashing out of the swamp, about 50 or 60 yards away," Klein told the Star Tribune. "At first I thought it was a doe, then I noticed it had antlers. But it looked really odd. I counted 8 points, so I shot."

God Will Protect Us; God Will Take Care of Us

 Abel

 Sarah

William Henry Belk was a child of three in 1865 when his father Abel was murdered by Sherman’s bummers, leaving his mother Sarah not only a widow but with three babies and several Negro hands to feed and clothe. The industrious William would be working his first job in Monroe, North Carolina at age fourteen, and at twenty-six had started his own business which eventually spread to every State in the South.
Bernhard Thuersam, Chairman
North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial Commission

"The Official Website of the North Carolina WBTS Sesquicentennial"

God Will Protect Us; God Will Take Care of Us

“Across more than four-fifths of a century of incredible change William Henry Belk remembers the day his father left home to escape the advancing Federals. It was 1865, and the Confederacy was dragging wearily into its last days.  The South was almost prostrate now; even Sarah Walkup Belk’s beloved Waxhaw country, the country of Andrew Jackson, the gallant William Richardson Davie, and her own Wauchope family, lay under the heel and torch of Sherman.

This Federal general . . . was moving north after his march to the sea, pillaging and burning and slaughtering, and in the path of his troops, in the border region between South Carolina and North Carolina, lay the modest home of Abel Washington Belk.

If young Belk, whose weak lungs had prevented his joining the Confederate army, should be found at home, the Belk’s feared that Sherman’s men would steal his property, burn the house, and possibly hang him. If he should leave and hide out with some of the Negroes and the valuables that could be removed, the Yankee marauders might spare the house . . . over the heads of a defenseless young woman and her three babies.

So he loaded up the wagons and took some of the Negroes and they went down to Gill’s Creek some fifteen miles east of Lancaster, South Carolina . . . refugeeing on the creek down there until the Yankees had got out of the country.  And it wasn’t long before the Yankees caught a fellow . . . who figured he’d save his own hide and get in their good graces by turning up my grandfather, old man Tom Belk. This scoundrel told them that my grandfather had barrels of gold hid out at his mine . . . .
But old Sherman’s men didn’t come by our house . . . [and] caught my father instead of my grandfather. They asked him where the gold was hid out. He told them he didn’t know. But they thought he was just trying to save his gold.  So they took him down to the creek . . . and held him by the feet and pushed his head down under the water.

Then they’d jerk him up and ask again where the gold was. When he’d tell them he didn’t know – which he didn’t – they’d push him down again.  That went on several times. His weak lungs couldn’t stand it. I reckon they just filled with water . . . But they did drown him . . . on Gill’s Creek.”

A letter which was written by Henry Belk’s uncle to Sarah Walkup Belk was her first news of the tragedy. It read as follows:  “Sister Sarah, I have sad news to tell you. Abel, your husband and my brother, is I suppose no more. He is not found as we know but there is a certain person buried about one and a half miles below here, in Graham’s field, who I suppose is Abel. His clothes were like those that Abel had on [and] Abel’s little mule is lying dead on the road not far from where the man was drowned. [signed] Herron.”

It was a cheerless, somber day when Sarah Walkup Belk turned away from the red mound in old Shiloh graveyard. But even darker were the thoughts that threatened to crush her, for everywhere she seemed to sense the very presence of death.

Beyond the stones of the graveyard . . . lay fields bare and brown and dead, and there was little promise anywhere that the resurrection of spring would provide adequate crops.  The Confederacy, too, she knew, was at its death and tired hungry hopeless men could no longer stem the rush of advancing hordes from the north.

And now her husband was dead.  What would she do now? Where would she turn?  How could she make a living for herself and her three babies?  How actually to find enough food?

She went back to her farm and organized what poor efforts she could command. She found food and clothing for herself, her babies and the Negroes. She managed to provide security in those perilous days, joy even and much love. And always she taught her children.  Sometimes it seemed that doubt and despair would engulf her. Always when the darkness was heaviest the pinpoint of a star broke through.  She held to her faith.  And she worked.

When the days were darkest she would repeat over and over again and in staunch faith the prayer and prophecy of that day when without knowing it she had waved her last good-bye to her young husband: “God will protect us; God will take care of us.”

Obama FBI Partners with Left-Wing Extremist Group ($PLC)

 https://a4cgr.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dees-stalin.jpg

The magnitude of this Obama administration’s “progressive” radicalism becomes more evident with each passing day. In recent months, there has been a drastic spike in acts of both anti-Christian and anti-conservative discrimination and intimidation on military bases across the country. This mounting harassment is not being carried out at the hands of regular enlisted folk but, rather, at the hands of high-ranking officials who, in their official capacity, are targeting Christian and conservative organizations and individuals in an effort to silence them.

It has long been suspected that the Obama administration is using propaganda circulated by the roundly discredited Southern Poverty Law Center, or SPLC, a left-wing extremist group that, in recent years, has adopted two primary goals: 1) raising truckloads of money and 2) smearing as “domestic hate groups” dozens of mainstream Christian ministries like the Family Research Council, or FRC, and the American Family Association, or AFA.

This suspicion has now been verified.

Spoils of war: Police getting leftover Iraq trucks

Via avordvet

Coming soon to your local sheriff: 18-ton, armor-protected military fighting vehicles with gun turrets and bulletproof glass that were once the U.S. answer to roadside bombs during the Iraq war.
The hulking vehicles, built for about $500,000 each at the height of the war, are among the biggest pieces of equipment that the Defense Department is giving to law enforcement agencies under a national military surplus program.

For police and sheriff's departments, which have scooped up 165 of the mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles, or MRAPS, since they became available this summer, the price and the ability to deliver shock and awe while serving warrants or dealing with hostage standoffs was just too good to pass up.

Banks Warn Fed They May Have To Start Charging Depositors

Via avordvet

The Fed's Catch 22 just got catchier. While most attention in the recently released FOMC minutes fell on the return of the taper as a possibility even as soon as December (making the November payrolls report the most important ever, ever, until the next one at least), a less discussed issue was the Fed's comment that it would consider lowering the Interest on Excess Reserves to zero as a means to offset the implied tightening that would result from the reduction in the monthly flow once QE entered its terminal phase (for however briefly before the plunge in the S&P led to the Untaper). After all, the Fed's policy book goes, if IOER is raised to tighten conditions, easing it to zero, or negative, should offset "tightening financial conditions", right? Wrong. As the FT reports leading US banks have warned the Fed that should it lower IOER, they would be forced to start charging depositors.

In other words, just like Europe is already toying with the idea of NIRP (and has been for over a year, if still mostly in the rheotrical and market rumor phase), so the Fed's IOER cut would also result in a negative rate on deposits which the FT tongue-in-cheekly summarizes "depositors already have to cope with near-zero interest rates, but paying just to leave money in the bank would be highly unusual and unwelcome for companies and households."

If cutting IOER was as much of an easing move as the Fed believes, banks should be delighted - after all, according to the Fed's guidelines it would mean that the return on their investments (recall that all US banks slowly but surely became glorified, TBTF prop trading hedge funds since Glass Steagall was repealed, and why the Volcker Rule implementation is virtually guaranteed to never happen) would increase. And yet, they are not:

Guns In Bars

Politics is dominated by sound bites meant to generate emotion, not rational discourse. One of the most dominant sound bites in recent North Carolina politics is that the law now allows people to carry "guns in bars." Upon hearing those three words, "guns in bars," people recoil in horror. The very idea that North Carolina is full of bars where people are packing heat is enough to make tourists avoid the state altogether. However, when one compares the old gun law with the new one, things make perfect sense.

On October 1st, North Carolina's absolute ban on handguns in all restaurants serving alcohol expired. That evening, I just happened to go into such a restaurant with a friend and fellow concealed weapons permit holder. Like me, she is an opponent of a statewide government-imposed ban. Our experience in the restaurant/bar that evening may sound amusing to most readers. But it actually sheds light on why the expired gun law left a lot to be desired.

Homeowner shoots, kills alleged burglar

Gypsy Wayne Watts

An elderly Pine County man shot and killed an armed intruder in his home in the early morning hours of Nov. 14, and a second alleged intruder now has criminal charges filed against him.
According to documents filed in Pine County Court, Charles Carlson was sleeping on the porch of his home near Sandstone when he was awakened by someone going through the porch and entering his kitchen.

Carlson told law enforcement that he first thought it was his friend and house guest, who was spending the night upstairs in Carlson’s home.

Instead, he found Gypsy Wayne Watts, 23, who raised a .22 caliber revolver and pointed it at his head. Carlson said he could see the rounds in each of the chambers of the revolver.

He said he started to act “like he didn’t know was going on, and feigned being blind and hard of hearing,” according to court documents.

He saw a second individual run off from the kitchen area into the yard. Carlson said that Watts then lowered his weapon and started speaking to him. This gave Carlson the opportunity to grab his own loaded handgun.

Obama Named to GQ's "Least Influential People" List

As Cortney pointed out, the media still considers the President Obama to be a "celebrity" rather than the leader of the United States. According to the magazine GQ, however, Obama is not even that good of a celebrity: he landed at #17 on their annual list of the 25 Least Influential People.

Here's what the magazine had to say about the president:

17. President Obama

He can blame Republicans in Congress all he likes and get away with it because congressional Republicans are the worst. But the fact remains that I have spent the majority of this man's presidency watching bad things happen, then hearing a thoughtful speech about how we gotta make sure the bad things never happen again, and then watching as nothing gets done.

Illegals march across classified military base

Via Carl

An investigative report from an Arizona television station reveals illegal aliens routinely are marching across a classified military base in order to enter the U.S., and the military’s perspective is that it’s not the Department of Defense’s responsibility to chase down invaders.

The report comes from KVOA-TV in Tucson, which reported that the fort, which is the home to the U.S. Army Intelligence Center and the U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command, is having hundreds, perhaps thousands, of illegal aliens come across its 73,000 acres.

The site is located in the Huachuca Mountains only a few miles from the border with Mexico, and its location and uses should be a concern to Americans, according to a former Border Patrol agent.

“I think the average American should be petrified,” Dave Stoddard, a former supervisor of the federal border agency, told the station.

“That smuggling operation going through there is very, very sophisticated. They’ve been getting by with it for years. They know the formula. They know the routine,” he said.

The military is unconcerned.

John Boehner’s premiums spike under Obamacare

Via Billy

House Speaker John Boehner is shown. | AP Photo

House Speaker John Boehner’s health insurance premiums will nearly double — and his deductibles will almost triple — as a result of the Affordable Care Act, according to figures provided by his office at POLITICO’s request.

Don’t expect to hear the Ohio Republican complain about his personal price spike, but he’s one of many older lawmakers and aides who are just finding out how much more they will have to pay as they move from the old Federal Employees Health Benefits system to coverage in the District of Columbia’s new health insurance exchange, as required by a provision in the Affordable Care Act and subsequent federal regulations. That will be true, too, for some consumers across the country who are transitioning into the exchanges.

“The Boehners are fortunate enough to be able to afford higher costs. But many Americans seeing their costs go up are not,” said Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck. “It’s because of them that this law needs to go.”

Crimson Trace – $129 Defender Series Laser for Glock/XD/LCP/S&W – Video Review

Carrying a handgun or having one at hand in the home for defense is a smart thing.  It provides an invaluable tool with which good lives can be saved.  But it is all for nothing if we can’t place the shots where it counts.  Half-dozen missed shots might scare off some threats, but not all.  Well placed shots are needed to immobilize a threat and keep you and your family safe.  Enter technology – the laser sight.  It’s like GPS for your bullets.

And when you think of laser sights, you think of Crimson Trace.  A pioneer in civilian and law enforcement aiming tools, Crimson Trace has earned its place at the top by providing high-quality products at reasonable prices for a wide variety of firearms.  Now, when I say ‘reasonable prices’, I don’t mean cheap.  A decent laser sight for your pistol has been a decision that would set you back a few hundred bucks easily, making it a hard purchase to justify for a lot of folks.  For 2013 however, Crimson Trace has created a new model line to address the market for a lower-cost but fully functioning laser sight.  At a list price between $129 and $149, or roughly the price of a good set of night sights, you can now equip your self-defense handgun with an easy-to-use laser. it is currently available for all Glock and Springfield Armory XD/XD-M handguns, as well as the Ruger LCP and most Smith & Wesson and Taurus J-Frame and small revolvers.

I took a detailed look at the new Crimson Trace Defender Series (CT-DS) using two versions – one for most Glock models, which I mounted on the G17; and one for the Springfield XDM platform, which I mounted on a XDM Compact. Installing the DS is a pretty simple process –
