Prosecutors: Illegal alien raped, murdered his own mother in Florida

Via Ninety Miles From Tyranny

 Gerard Lopes

On Wednesday, prosecutors told a Broward County courtroom that Gerard Lopes Belmonte's disturbing motive for killing his adoptive mother two years ago, was to cover up the fact that he had just raped her.

DNA tests showed Lopes' semen was found inside his 43-year-old mother's body, said Assistant State Attorney Adriana Alcalde.

On July 20, 2011, the badly beaten body of Natalie Belmonte was found in a marsh near the Pembroke Pines home she shared with her son.

Lopes reported his mother missing three days earlier.

HSLDA: Does the Common Core Lead to National Data Collection? & “The Common Core basically nationalizes mediocrity.”

The U.S. Department of Education is prohibited by law from creating a national data system.1 But the Education Science Reform Act of 2002 gave the federal government the authority to publish guidelines for states developing state longitudinal data systems (SLDS).2 Over the past decade, a slew of new federal incentives and federally funded data models have spurred states to monitor students’ early years, performance in college, and success in the workforce by following “individuals systematically and efficiently across state lines.”3 We believe that this expansion of state databases is laying the foundation for a national database filled with personal student data.

Home School Legal Defense Association has long opposed the creation of such a database. We believe that it would threaten the privacy of students, be susceptible to abuse by government officials or business interests, and jeopardize student safety. We believe that detailed data systems are not necessary to educate young people. Education should not be an Orwellian attempt to track students from preschool through assimilation into the workforce.

At this point, it does not appear that the data of students who are educated in homeschools or private schools are being included in these databases. But HSLDA is concerned that it will become increasingly difficult to protect the personal information of homeschool and private school students as these databases grow. Oklahoma’s P20 Council has already called for databases to include the personal data of homeschool students.

The Common Core State Standards initiative claims to prepare students for college and career, but is its one-size-fits-all approach harmful to a child’s education? This week on Home School Heartbeat, join your host Mike Farris and HSLDA Federal Relations Director Will Estrada as they discuss the issue.

"Cal Worthington and his dog, Spot!"

Via Way Up North

How well I remember.

If you watched television in Southern California in the 1970s and beyond, it was impossible to miss Cal Worthington, the lanky pitchman in the cowboy hat touting deals on a sprawling car lot with his "dog Spot."

"Spot," however, was anything but a dog — think lion, tiger, bull, penguin, anteater, iguana, even a whale. And Worthington, the Oklahoma transplant who rode and wrestled with the exotic creatures in one of TV's wackiest and longest-running ad campaigns, kept the gag going for decades, building a cult following along with one of the most successful car dealerships west of the Mississippi. "Go see Cal" became a part of Southern Californians' vocabulary.

Worthington, who estimated that he sold a million cars of various makes during a 65-year career that made him an icon of Southern California auto culture, died Sunday while watching football at his ranch in Orland, north of Sacramento, said his attorney, Larry Miles. He was 92. The cause has not been determined.

The Un-Civil War Shattering the Historical Myths

Dixie and I read this when it first came out and is indeed excellent.

****************************

The book discusses honestly and frankly the real reasons for the Civil War, the way in which it was fought, and the major differences between the two sides. One of these was the strong views over the meaning and obligations of Constitutional government. The South held the traditional position of limited government and strict adherence to the protections of the Constitution, especially States Rights. The North favored a strong, centralized government and material and social programs unfettered by Constitutional limits. These issues are still very much alive.

By Blimey

Mike Scruggs has based his eye-opening book upon extensive research, which he cites. Recent articles by responsible academics have begun to admit many of the assertions he makes:

· The politically calculating Lincoln wasn't the humanitarian he is exalted to be--his precipitous "emancipation proclamation" was a wartime strategy that didn't even apply to states under Union control, and he considered blacks inferior; also,

· the Andersonville "atrocity" was forced by Lincoln's refusal to exchange prisoners in an effort to starve the South for manpower. Guards fared no better than prisoners, and Andersonville commander Wirz was hanged as a scapegoat. Finally,

· Lincoln, Sherman and others intentionally waged brutal "unlimited warfare" against Southern civilians instead of avoiding "collateral damage" as dictated by traditional concepts of "just war."

· The arrogant, punitive Radical Republican-engineered atrocity of "Reconstruction" was the breeding ground of both Jim Crow and crippling sectional animosity, and was fueled by profiteering. The South didn't recover economically until the mid-20th century.

· Though a significant factor, slavery was not the "cause" of the war and abolition wasn't a Northern goal. The South favored gradual, compensated emancipation and preparation of former slaves for freedom rather than dumping them unceremoniously into society. Instead,

· ruinous, unfair tariffs led the first states to secede; Lincoln's call for 75,000 troops to invade the South led the remaining states to secede, and precipitated hostilities. This book truthfully refutes the standard morality play about the slavery issue.

In summation, the currently accepted judgment of history in the mid-1800s is skewed. The "politically correct" version of that history, taught in schools today, tragically diminishes the courageous endurance of the Confederate soldier and the Southern people in the face of horrific suffering. Before his death in battle near the end, Confederate Major General Patrick Cleburn warned that "Surrender means that the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy; that our youth...will learn from Northern school books their version of the War; will be impressed by all the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors...." The resulting distortion is not only unfair; it is a hazard to our judgment of public policy for the future and to domestic peace. This is an important book.

“The War that erupted in 1861 is the central event in American History, but it is as little understood by the public as it is important. There is no book which, in such short compass, so plainly, and convincingly explains the meaning of that great conflict.”

Donald W. Livingston
Professor of Philosophy, Emeritus, Emory University

***

Over 150 years ago an internecine war took the lives of nearly one million people and transformed a constitutional republic into an empire. To this day, Americans are reluctant to agree on the most salient aspects of that world-changing conflict. Ignoring the modern day, nursery-rhyme version of history, Mike Scruggs’ The Un-Civil War clearly presents an arsenal of intellectual weapons to fire back at the historically inept. This book should be required reading in every school in America.

The Un-Civil War is a moving presentation of the heartbeat of the Southern Cause. It presents the truth with clarity and makes significant applications to our present spiritual and political chaos. Here is an excellent answer to decades of distorted, revisionist history.

Two Former Hostages of Rebels: Sarin attack launched by rebels

A Belgian writer named Pierre Piccinin and an Italian journalist named Domenico Quirico were captured and held hostage several months ago by the Syrian rebels. When they were finally released yesterday, they had devastating news to reveal: based on conversations among the rebels that they overheard, the sarin attack in Ghouta had not been ordered by the Syrian government, but was launched by the rebels themselves.

Cops brutalize family during traffic stop

The punishment for allegedly blowing through a stop sign didn’t exactly fit the crime.

When David Braxton Scherz, 26, saw flashing blue lights behind him as he drove down his street in 2011, he had no way of knowing his luck was about to go from bad to worse.

A police dashcam video shows officers in Harris County, Texas, confronting Scherz during the traffic stop outside his home in Houston.

“I was coming home from a friend’s house, an officer said I missed a stop sign, but before it even got to that I had already parked in my driveway,” said Scherz.

His mother approached from inside the house and was ordered back inside.

“Ma’am, either wait inside or wait in the backseat of my car. I’m not going to ask you again,” a deputy can be heard saying in an audio recording obtained by ABC in Houston.

“This is my house and I have the right to stand here,” protested Yvonne Scherz.
Then things got really ugly. A cop pulls the woman to the ground and drags her along the concrete.
“The next thing I remember she was screaming. I went inside, grabbed my sister and she got the rest of the family,” recalled Scherz.

Police Shoot Open Gun Carrier

 http://seattletimes.com/ABPub/2013/09/07/2021778723.jpg

Admittedly, there is a bit missing from the story. Based on what we know, a 27-year-old man was walking down an Edmonds, Washington sidewalk on a Saturday morning near a school while open-carrying his rifle. His “behavior” prompted two 911 phone calls from residents, which led to police showing up on the scene and trying to find out what he was doing walking around with a rifle. The Seattle Times reports that following a “verbal confrontation,” police decided to shoot the man. Thankfully, he’s still alive, but he is in serious condition at the hospital.

He is one of Britain’s greatest war historians. And now in his masterly and compelling new  book marking the centenary of World War I, Max Hastings tells the very human stories behind the horror. Yesterday, he revealed how a doubting Britain was persuaded to join the conflict. Here, in our third extract, he describes scenes of carnage and confusion as the bloodbath in France begins.

To most people, World War I is synonymous with the hell of trench warfare, barbarous bombardments and troops with fixed bayonets going over the top to die pointlessly, amid hails of machine-gun bullets, on barbed wire.

But the early encounters in August 1914 were entirely different. The war that would be a catastrophic stalemate for so many years actually began in a swirl of movement and colour.

Under brilliant skies, the armies of France, Germany, Belgium and Britain marched on foot and on horseback along dusty, un-metalled roads towards collisions with the enemy amid golden cornfields and puzzled peasant spectators — much as armies had done for centuries.

House Speaker John Boehner’s staff is advising the White House on what to say to win Republican votes for U.S. military action in Syria, according to National Review.

Boehner (R-Ohio) said last week he supports President Barack Obama’s call for action, one of relatively few Republicans to say so publicly. With Obama set to address the nation Tuesday, the speaker’s staff is advising White House chief of staff Denis McDonough on what the president needs to say to win GOP support, National Review reported.

 Such a shame......:)

Police in Salisbury are asking for help figuring out who spray painted five speed cameras.
An officer on patrol over the weekend noticed that two cameras on Route 50 and Davis Street had been spray painted with red paint. The numbers "1776" and "1774" were also spray painted on the equipment.

Officers checked the other speed cameras and found that the same numbers were spray painted on two cameras located on East College Avenue and one camera on East Main Street.

Expert: Poison gas was 'kitchen' variety

 http://muslimjournalist.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/f3773-syrianrebelsusechemicalweapons.jpg?w=400&h=300

A top terrorism expert says that recent findings on the chemical weapons attack on Aug. 21 in a region on the outskirts of Damascus, Syria, was “indeed a self-inflicted attack” by the Syrian opposition to provoke U.S. and military intervention in Syria.

At the same time, however, Dr. Yossef Bodansky, former director of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, conceded that only a detailed chemical analysis by the United Nations of the agents used in the poison gas attack can provide the “guidelines” as to the “guilty party.”

He conceded that the paucity of facts to date highlights how little is known of the actual attack.

For example, he said, there remain unverified claims as to just the number of fatalities, ranging from a U.S. assertion of 1,429 fatalities, while the French say that there were only 281. The Syrian opposition and Doctors Without Borders says the number is up to 355.

“Either way, this is too huge a gap not to be explained and substantiated,” Bodansky said.

Army launches 50th anniversary commemoration of Vietnam War

Army launches 50th anniversary commemoration of Vietnam War

The afternoon in the Pentagon auditorium on Aug. 28 was a time for reflection on a war that spanned 10 years and cost the country the lives of more than 58,000 young men and women. It was also an occasion to honor and thank nine Vietnam War veterans who’d served a total of 14 tours in-country and 225 years in uniform.

Kicking off the Pentagon’s first event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the conflict, Army Lt. Gen. Raymond V. Mason, deputy chief of staff for logistics, opened the ceremony recalling personal memories as well as his broader experiences as a young American citizen.

“I was a young Army brat and it was difficult for me to watch my dad come back after his third tour in Vietnam and not get treated appropriately, at least in my mind,” Mason said. “I was just a pretty young guy at that time, but I could feel that it wasn’t right. It struck me, and I knew if I ever had the opportunity to make that right I would do the best I could.

A response to ‘Cork Graham is a CIA-faker’

A response to 'Cork Graham is a CIA-faker'

In 2011, I began writing a shooting and firearms-focused column for Guns & Patriots.  It was the first time in 20 years that I openly discussed the Central America War, specifically my involvement in it as a paramilitary officer for the CIA.

I expected a number of my fellow veterans in the special operations community to chime in and comment, and even show their distaste at my admission. What I didn’t expect was that the people who touted themselves at experts would challenge me in such an inflammatory and inaccurate manner—it was disrespectful and so poorly researched.

It has taken me awhile to respond because, one, I have my own life to lead; and two, the comments were so ludicrous that I couldn’t take them seriously. What I began realizing, though was that there might be those unknowledgeable about Central America who might actually take these “experts” seriously.

There are thousands of former operators like me, who, after seeing what happened to me and were ready to finally talk, might clam up for another twenty years, and in the process would lose a special opportunity to further their healing process. As a nation, we would also have lost a monumental part and understanding of international history.

Man kills cougar with spear after it attacks wife in garden of their mountain cabin on a remote Canadian island

Unprecedented: A 60-year-old man has attacked and killed a cougar with a spear after it mauled his wife while she was gardening at their home in British Columbia, Canada

A husband who saved his 60-year-old wife from the jaws of a cougar by spearing it to death has been praised by others who believe the same animal tried to attack them.

Reacting swiftly to his wife's screams, the unidentified man grabbed a boar spear and stabbed the animal several times until it fled. It was later found dead nearby.
The woman's skull was reportedly crushed by the animal and part of her scalp was missing, according to one of the rescue team.

Precious Little Girl Dismembered While She Is Still Alive By Obama’s Psychotic Syrian Rebels

Via WiscoDave

Syrian Rebels

Should the United States be allied with radical Islamic jihadists that dismember little girls while they are still alive?  That question sounds ridiculously absurd, but that is precisely what Barack Obama is proposing.  Obama wants the United States to go to war so that it will be easier for al-Qaeda Christian killers to take over Syria.  What you are about to read should absolutely shock you.  Please send it out to your friends and share it everywhere that you can.  If America willingly sides with psychotic, murderous savages that behead little children, it will bring a curse upon our nation.  It is imperative that the American people be told the truth about this.

Mother Agnes Mariam el-Salib is a Catholic nun and mother superior of St. James Monastery in Qara, Syria.  She has been living in the country for about twenty years, and she has been very active in reporting what has actually been happening on the ground inside Syria.

Posted below is an excerpt from what she told RT the other day.  According to her, the Syrian rebels have been brutally beheading people wherever they go and they even dismembered one little girl with a frame saw while she was still alive
In the village of Estreba they massacred all the residents and burnt down their houses. In the village of al-Khratta almost all the 37 locals were killed. Only ten people were able to escape.
A total of twelve Alawite villages were subjected to this horrendous attack. That was a true slaughterhouse. People were mutilated and beheaded. There is even a video that shows a girl being dismembered alive – alive! – by a frame saw. The final death toll exceeded 400, with 150 to 200 people taken hostage. Later some of the hostages were killed, their deaths filmed.
What Mother Agnes is saying lines up very well with what is being reported in major international publications such as the Daily Mail
