GOA Action Alert

We also deserved a vote, Mr. Obama,
but we didn’t get it from Harry Reid!

Stockman, Broun answer the call to

KILL ALL GUN CONTROL in the House

Note to Barack Obama:  Spare us the snide sarcasm and the dripping contempt.  Obama's condescending state of the union speech shows, once again, why gun owners don't trust him.

"They deserve a vote," hollered Obama, pointing to drooling anti-gun activists in the galleries.

Well, so did we.

Veterans deserved a vote on whether they would receive due process from a court of law before having their constitutional gun rights taken away.  But, when Senator Chuck Schumer threatened to filibuster the DoD authorization bill in order to block that amendment, it didn't happen.

Gun owners deserved a vote on Sen. John Thune's reciprocity legislation -- allowing concealed carry holders to carry their firearms from one state into another.  But Democratic Leader Harry Reid made sure each controversial bill coming before the Senate was filled with the maximum number of allowable amendments, so Thune's amendment couldn't be offered.

Gun owners deserved a vote on appropriations language to block 16,000 IRS agents from imprisoning those who refused to comply with the anti-gun ObamaCare law.  But Reid carefully manipulated the Senate rules to insure the ObamaCare-related votes were kept to a minimum.

From responsible budgeting to gun rights, Reid's office became the graveyard for votes on issues of interest to conservatives.

Reps. Stockman & Broun circulate letter to KILL ALL GUN CONTROL

So what can gun owners do?  We can create a groundswell of support for what Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) is doing in the House.

Rep. Stockman has just told GOA that he and Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) will be circulating a letter asking the House leadership to refuse to bring up anti-gun legislation that is NOT supported by a majority of the Republican members of the House of Representatives.

Stockman’s effort could potentially kill ALL GUN CONTROL in the House.

We know, we know.  We believe that gun control should die if only one constitutionalist-representative opposes it -- or even if none do.  But, as a practical matter, if 117 congressmen sign a letter demanding that Boehner not bring up a gun control bill opposed by those 117 congressmen, gun control will die.  Without that letter, Democrats will join with anti-gun Republicans, and gun control will pass.

ACTIONClick here to contact your Representative and urge him or her to cosign the Stockman-Broun letter.  Please note that there are two different action responses for you to send, and the system will automatically send that response, depending upon whether your congressman is a Republican or Democrat.

 burned-alive-Chrisdorner

Police audio from the Christopher Dorner siege appear to reveal a deliberate plan to burn down the cabin where they had Chris Dorner surrounded and cornered with “tear gas” canisters which are known to cause fires.  Police call them “burners.”  Police scanners (thank citizen journalism again) recorded one officer saying, “fu*king burn this motherf*cker,” before police discussed their intention to, “go ahead with the plan with the burners.”  Now remember, they had him completely surrounded.  He was in a cabin in a winter environment with no power.  They had had a bullet-proof (small arms) armored car which had torn down some of the walls of the cabin, limiting his movement to a single room.  Yet they still needed to burn what remained?

U.N. Maps Show U.S. High In Gun Ownership, Low In Homicides

UN Gun Ownership Map

Since 1998, John Lott’s seminal work More Guns, Less Crime has been used to show that areas with the highest gun ownership in America experience the least crime on a per capita basis.

It now appears that what Lott discovered as true for the U.S.A. is true for the world as well.

Maps made by the U.N. office on Drugs and Crime (circa 2007) clearly show that where gun ownership is highest in the world, crime is lowest on a per capita basis.

For example, here is the map for gun ownership: (Above)

Notice the high levels of private gun ownership per 100 people in the United States versus the rest of the world.

Now, here is the map for homicides:

President Obama laid out his aggressive liberal agenda in his State of the Union address. Does his vision of what America should be match yours? Do you feel he is uniting or dividing this country? Take our survey and let us know what you think:

 police-shooting

Tampa Bay Times:
Pasco SWAT team members on Tuesday broke down the door and searched an older couple’s home for their grandson. They searched for hours for Aaron Vineyard and the guns and stolen goods he allegedly was keeping, but didn’t find him or his loot in the home.
Carl Stark, 71, and his wife Juanita, 73, said they are furious that SWAT members broke into their house at 9808 Sholtz St., and shouted orders at them to get on the ground, breaking several decorations and a window in the process. They said their grandson, Vineyard, 36, lives in a trailer next door at 9812 Sholtz St., and they rarely see or speak to him.
At a news conference on Friday, Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco said he stands behind his deputies’ actions. Before the Tuesday night SWAT raid, he said, investigators were working with an informant to bring down a 12-man crime ring of which they believe Vineyard is a member.
Nocco said his men weren’t taking chances when they decided to search the home Tuesday night. The SWAT team got the house they meant to, he said.
“I have no regrets in the operation that was performed,” Nocco said. “The fact that we put safety first, we’re not going to apologize for that.”
Sheriff’s spokesman Doug Tobin said SWAT members’ actions “ensured the safety of all of those inside the house and deputies executing the search warrant.”
Safety first.  Whose safety?  The safety of his officers.  In fact, the spokesman is lying.  This wasn’t safe for anyone.  No one benefited from these tactics, no one was caught, no evidence was flushed down the toilet, the police don’t know that the parents were connected in any way to the son’s activities regardless of what they say, and a lot of home wares were broken.

The better approach would have been to position detectives to find out when the son left his home, arrest him out in the open daylight, and execute a search warrant on the parent’s home by uniformed officers.  The fact that a SWAT team was used to do this is a testimony to stupidity and thuggery.
Moving West, the following home invasion has some instructive value for us.

The blind leading the blind

Three members of a jazz band were shot by Los Angeles police Monday afternoon in relation to a massive hunt for an avenging ex-cop, police and witnesses said.

Police were reportedly acting on a tip in their search for Christopher Jordan Dorner when they stopped a van at an Arco station on La Cienega Boulevard near Interstate 405.The van was carrying three members of a Dave Brubeck tribute band and their manager.

Police then allegedly started shooting at the blue 1989 Ford Aerostar, hitting three men and riddling the van with bullet holes.

The three men, later identified as members of The Brubeck Ambassadors Jazz Band, were treated at the scene for gunshot wounds before being taken to an area hospital in stable condition, police said. The band’s manager was unharmed.

The shooting occurred as local, state and federal police are conducting a massive search for Dorner, 33, an ex-LAPD officer who is suspected of fatally shooting an Orange County couple and three Riverside police officers, one of whom died.

Dorner reportedly declared in an online manifesto that he is seeking revenge against former LAPD colleagues he blames for ending his career. Authorities are offering $1 million for information leading to Dorner’s arrest. Dorner's truck was found in Big Bear, Calif., last week.

All three of Monday's shooting victims are white. Dorner is described as African-American, 6 feet tall and 270 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Update on Michael Behenna - He Ain't Heavy - He's My Brother!

To the thousands of Michael supporters,

Last week we traveled to Washington DC to present Michael’s case before the Army Clemency and Parole Board.  Michael’s younger brother Brett, two years out of law school and a county prosecutor in Oklahoma, made the main presentation to the Board.

Brett opened his presentation with a video of the latest recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor Dakota Meyer receiving his medal.  He pointed out that Dakota disobeyed four direct orders to stay at his post while his platoon was in a firefight in a nearby Afghan village.  But as Dakota Meyer would later explain, one has to be guided by principle and that more important than following orders is your brotherhood.  Brett told the Board that both Dakota and Michael violated orders, but both men did so to protect their fellow soldiers.  No one knows the outcome of a decision they make, but when Soldiers/Marines are guided by the principle of protecting their troops, the outcome of a decision should not determine if one will be praised as a hero and the other branded a criminal.

Brett told the Board that the four years Michael had already spent in prison was enough given the facts of the case:  1) Ali Mansur was a member of an Al Qaida cell, known to be involved in planting roadside IED’s, 2) that Michael did not kill Mansur out of anger or hatred, but because Mansur lunged for his gun, and 3) that the reason Michael was interrogating Mansur in the first place was he wanted to prevent another IED attack on his men by questioning the very person he believed was responsible for an IED attack that killed two of his soldiers. Brett then walked the Board through the tenants of corrections (Incapacitation, Rehabilitation, Deterrence, and Retribution or Punishment) and stated that Michael had satisfied each of these tenants and that neither society, the Army nor Michael would benefit from further incarceration.  He asked the Board to commute the rest of Michael’s sentence to time served.

The Parole Board, which was comprised of Colonel’s and civilians, was very complimentary of Brett’s presentation.  One Board member even commented that ‘he had done his brother proud.’  He most certainly made his parents proud!  Amazingly the Board also told Brett to thank Michael for his service to his country and how he had conducted himself over these last four difficult years in prison.  That thank you was a first in four years of fighting for Michael’s freedom in the military justice system.

Here is a link to a video interview Brett did after leaving the hearing.  It is worth watching and only takes a minute to load:

Also, here is a copy of a letter from the entire Oklahoma Congressional Delegation in support of Michael:

And finally, here is a copy of a news article about the Clemency Hearing:

We should get an answer from the Parole Board in the next two weeks so please keep Michael in your thoughts and prayers.  As always, thank you for all your support of a young man we are proud to call our son.

Respectfully,

Dr. Ben Carson Fires Back at His Critics: Somebody Has to Be Courageous Enough to Stand Up to the Bullies

Dr. Benjamin Carson won over conservatives when he railed against many of the big government policies endorsed by President Barack Obama during the National Prayer Breakfast last week, at which the president was in attendance.

However, the newly discovered conservative hero is also getting his first taste of criticism from the left who say his speech was inappropriate and even offensive. On Monday, he appeared on Fox News’ “Your World” with Neil Cavuto to respond to his critics.

“What we need to do is we need to be able to discuss intelligent ways of solving the multitude of problems that threatens to destroy our nation. And there are a group of people who would like to silence everybody and have everybody go along to get along, but that’s not going to be very helpful for us in the long run,” Carson said.

“Somebody has to be courageous enough to stand up to the bullies,” he added.

When asked why he took it upon himself to go “beyond medical policy” and address issues like tax policy, Carson went back to the Declaration of Independence to make his point.

“One of the things I also said during the speech, there will be some people who will say, but you’re a doctor and you’re a surgeon. You should be sticking to that,” Carson explained. “And I mentioned the fact that five physicians signed the Declaration of Independence and were involved in the framing of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and several other things.”
