Yes, they are cool but I grew up as a gear head in the mid to late 60s. I have driven practically every muscle car from those years. They were just cars to be used and abused back in the day. The prices I see them selling for make me laugh. They were for the most part they were a cheap body with a huge motor stuffed in. Then never rode good, they never handled as a car some just barely qualified in truth other than frying tires they just were never that good. Quality during that period was dropping so they were never “well made” they were made just good enough. I have great memories of driving the big block Chevys, Mopars and Fords. But, paying 100k plus for an example of any of them it out of the question even if I had the money to waste. Sorry, folks that do are either trying to buy back memories best left as memories or buy memories they never had.
These cars were probably built at the end of freedom in America. The EPA was created so “smog” pumps became a standard item. More and more laws and regulations began the march to tyranny we are experiencing today. So in some way they are the end of an era. The end of the muscle care surprisingly coincides well with another lost freedom buying a gun mail order. So yes, the late 60s and early 70s began Americas march to Tyranny.
They ran the 1/4 quite well and still do. Investors are also buying. I'd buy one each, except for the 442 which I consider the ugliest car ever produced, if I was rich. :)
