With only a week to go before new gun laws that limit “assault weapons” and require fingerprints and licenses for handguns take effect, Maryland residents are buying firearms at an unprecedented rate.
The Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday that the last-minute rush to beat the gun grab has resulted in residents snapping up weapons at a rate of more than 1,000 per day, outpacing the same sales figures for the same period a year ago by a 7-to-1 margin.

DeleteI went into a Dick's Sporting Goods store in western MD about 4 years ago
ReplyDeleteand was absolutely shocked at the amount of ammo they had. Granted it was at
the beginning of hunting season but they had cases of shot gun, rifle and pistol
ammo in unopened boxes stacked 2 feet high across the front of their gun counter
plus they had about 50 feet of shelving that reached from the floor to higher than
my 6'1 body could reach. All calibers, all brands.
Jump forward to last fall. I went in the same store. There was not as much ammo in the place as most PD swat teams would want to put down a riot at a kindergarten.
My how the times have changed. Can you say...Fundamental Transformation?

Unfortunately, sounds all to familiar.
When the British invaded in 1812 the the idiots in MD waived as they went by in their ships.. Not much has changed.

ReplyDeleteWhat the story doesn't seem to tell is the 6-9mo backlog, or 'wait time' that was the norm I'd been hearing from 'rezidents' asking permission to own firearms.
As long as they stay on their side of the bridges with their laws (MD owns all bridges across the Potomac), things will remain kosher with me. They cross them, well....we've all been well versed in what needs to happen if that comes to pass.
