The Consequences of Amnesty: Vichy Republicans

President Obama wants a “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” bill including amnesty for an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants and a huge new guest-worker program ready to move in the Senate by the week of April 8. Senator Patrick Leahy, Democrat Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has warned over the objections of Republican Senator Jeff Sessions and five Republican colleagues on the committee that he intends “to proceed to comprehensive immigration reform with all deliberate speed.” When politicians want to run “comprehensive reform” legislation through Congress with “all deliberate speed” it means that powerful special interests want to jam some questionable special interest legislation down the people’s throats before they can figure out what is being done to them. It is a form of deception and corruption that usually results in irreparable comprehensive damage to the nation for the benefit of special interests.

Senator Sessions and his colleagues are objecting because they believe that the legislation under construction deserves close scrutiny. Past amnesties and guest-worker programs were good for special interests but extremely damaging to American workers, taxpayers, many communities, and the rule of law. They have also been good for leftist issues and the Democrat Party and bad for conservative issues and Republicans.

Amnesty always begets more illegal immigration and more uncontrolled legal immigration. A rule of thumb based on the 1986 amnesty is that 11 million amnesties will generate 22 to 33 million new illegal immigrants within 10 to 20 years. That would jump our annual net fiscal costs for illegal alien (undocumented Democrat) maintenance from over $100 billion per year estimated by fairus.org to between $200 billion and $300 billion per year.

We now have an enormous $16 trillion dollar debt and trillion dollar fiscal deficits every year. The Heritage Foundation estimates that a new amnesty would cost the taxpayers over $2.5 trillion in the next ten years in increased Medicare and Social Security costs ALONE. Adding some of the incremental fiscal costs cited by fairus.org, a minimal cost of amnesty would be $3.0 trillion. Adding $3.0 trillion to an already staggering $16 national debt is stupid, insane, and CORRUPT.

Who will gain? Democrats will gain millions of new voters. More than 75 percent of the new legal residents on a path to the voting booth will vote Democrat—not because they are grateful for amnesty, but because they favor big government, and big social-welfare and healthcare programs by more than 75 percent. That should put their Republican opposition out of business in half a decade or less. It is easily predictable that if an amnesty passes, the Republicans will never win another national election unless they drop all principles. They will slowly lose most currently Red States, and Congressional Districts. Those businesses that use cheap illegal labor and cheap guest-worker labor will continue to reap huge profits. Who will lose? American workers, taxpayers, and the adherents of Constitutional government and Judeo-Christian culture.  More broadly, greed and importing a new and more Democrat electorate will triumph over a once great Republic.

Senator Sessions has bravely pointed out that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the largest lobbyist for cheap foreign labor:

“The Chamber’s primary goal has never been to establish a lawful immigration system and secure our borders, but to get as much cheap labor as possible—regardless of how it impacts American workers, legal immigrants, and taxpayers in general.”

The political costs of amnesty to conservatives are much broader than most people realize. Once a new, leftist electorate dominates conservative voices, no conservative issue will be safe, Constitutional or not, and in a few years, few will be left. How long will the Second Amendment last when the electorate, Congress, and Federal Courts are stacked against it?  Federally dictated political correctness will effectively replace a dead Constitution.

There are already eight million illegal immigrants working in the U.S. Yet there are 20 million Americans who want a full time job and cannot find one. Yet almost all the media sympathy is lavished on illegal immigrants who enter and stay in the U.S. by identity theft and document fraud. You cannot be for American jobs and amnesty or for American jobs and huge guest-worker programs. The propaganda that illegal immigrants are only doing “jobs Americans won’t do” has been discredited by competent research.

Amnesties and guest-worker programs flood the job market with cheap labor and drive American wages down. Some labor economics studies have shown that for every 100 foreign workers hired, 60 American workers will be displaced.

The principal legislative package of amnesty and guest-worker programs is the Senate Gang-of-Eight proposal, very similar to Obama’s own proposal. Amazingly, four of the eight sponsors are Republicans: McCain, Graham, Flake and Rubio. I prefer to call them the Vichy Republicans because they are operating against their party’s best interests and against the best interests of the American people. Amnesty is essentially Republican Party suicide, and the Democrat friendly press is trying to stampede Republicans into voting for quick extinction.

Several Center for Immigration Studies academic research articles over the last 10 years have consistently indicated that Republicans CANNOT win Latino votes by voting for amnesty and other liberal immigration policies. What will happen is this: (1) Amnesty will bring NO net Hispanic votes to the GOP. (2) Millions of newly amnestied voters will vote 75 percent Democrat because 75 percent of them are for big government social-welfare programs. (3) At least another 10 percent of conservative voters will stay at home. This would be far greater if voters knew immigration issues and how candidates stood on them, and if voters developed some discernment in distinguishing between truth and double-talk.

Republicans need to get some backbone or they are going to be destroyed by pro-amnesty political advisors and a media that is trying to stampede them into a suicidal breach of principles.

  3. The word bravery in a sentence with republican is an automatic oxymoron.

Sessions could gum up the works by simply placing a hold on the legislation in question. If, in spite of the hold, the legislation reaches the floor, well, Sessions and his republicans can filibuster.

That is, the Sessions contingent will have to stand and flap their gums for a few hours. But flapping their gums is what politicians do isn't it?

Sorry, Republican rats have facilitated the illegal alien invasion whenever and wherever they could.

Where's the bravery in any of that?
