    1. :) I finally checked out your Avatar last night. There were a lot of good pictures on the site I found, but I think yours is the best. Really an extraordinary shot.

    2. Thanks! My understanding is that that is White Belly, an Ogalala Sioux. I'd hate to be a pioneer, and open the curtains some night and see that face staring back!

    3. The picture I saw was marked White Belly, Sioux. I didn't know about the Ogalala part. We just finished Crazy Horse by Joseph Marshall, both wonderful and sad. It was an audio book read by the author who was raised by the same tribe and taught the ways of his people starting at 6. It's about 30 minutes each way to school, so we listen to video books which gives Dixie an hour towards homeschool. I have really enjoyed many of them. Queen Elizabeth I - Her Pirate Adventures and Days of Empire. Mayflower: A story of courage, community and war. Pirate Hunter, the true story of Captain Kidd and In Cold Blood. We just started Into the Wild. Don't know if the latter will get a gold star yet, though.

  2. American Indians rock. There are a couple of books by an author with the last name of Nye, which deal with the Kiowa in Oklahoma, that are really good. They were written before all the political correctness changed the way Indians are presented, and address a lot of the conflict and interaction between the peoples from the indian's perspective. They are therefore fantastic. I'll see if I can scare up the titles. They are naturally out of print but would be worth tracking down for the good read that they are.
