New York Legislature to Introduce Bills Making Posession of Any AWB Firearms Illegal, Remove Grandfathering

The New York Legislature is set to consider a bill that would vastly expand the state’s current “assault weapons ban.” Here’s some of the, er, highlights:
  • All firearms must either be rendered inoperative or surrendered to the police. No grandfathering, no exceptions.
  • Removes the “grandfathering” exception for possession of magazines with a greater than 10 round capacity.
  • Bumps up AWB-firearm possession from 3rd degree “criminal possession of a weapon” to first degree, putting simple possession of such a firearm at the same level of punishment as Rape 1 or Manslaughter 1.
Oh, and the whole thing is severable. So if one section is ever declared unconstitutional, the rest of it stays. Full text here. There are also two other bills being considered . . .

    New Yorkers have a reputation for being argumentative and intractable. I thought so, anyway. I haven't been within driving distance of the Empire State since 2007, visited since 1998, or lived there since 1988, so they might have all wimped out since then. But if I'm right, and telling New Yorkers is harder than herding cats, then I think the solution here is for New Yorkers take that stereotype and live it. Be as difficult as possible, then try a little harder. Why should decent people in Buffalo or Syracuse or the Hudson Valley take crap from idiots in Albany who are in fact being controlled by petty tyrants in Lower Manhattan? I could say the same thing about the relationship between Springfield, Chicago, and the rest of Illinois.

    To hell with King Michael and the private jet he rode in on.

      Yes,I remember going to a deb party in Cooperstown and the area was conservative.
