HOME COURT ADVANTAGE: HERITAGE DEFENCE

The few successes I have had in dealing with the media occurred when I did not wait for a historically-challenged journalist to write something inaccurate and offensive. We have demonstrated we are very capable when we do call out the paper and electronic tigers to come to our defence, but there is a better way.

When I issue a “News Release” on some point of history or culture it usually gets printed in the newspaper, often unedited and usually without a counter argument. Once journalists place their name on their articles they must defend what they have written or lose credibility. Their writing is their source of income, so they have more immediately at risk than you do. Your response to them is just as a volunteer and in a way you have less invested and at risk in the discussion. You have something to win, but they have won already by being paid for their opinion. When you counter punch their point you immediately place them on the defensive whether their articles are accurate or not. This is a losing tactic.

I have seen hundreds of great responses to dumb stuff that found its way in print. When your defensive response is too good the editor can choose to not print your written effort, or they may just edit the life and heart out of what you wrote resulting in making your dedicated effort just hallow venting and catharsis resulting in you having wasted your time.

When you are active and take the initiative, rather than being reactive and pinging-off of some politically correct but inaccurate view of history or heritage, you have worked-up a head of steam and are offended by something they wrote. You are on the defensive before you write the first word. Chances are that you will not be able to gain control of the agenda on that topic by being able to define and frame the focus of the topic.

The person who gets to initially choose the field of battle and “frame the issue” has the argument 98% won before the argument can even begin as a two-way dialogue. The journalist is trying to informative and do his job. This is his livelihood.

The journalist may not know much about history, but usually they are  professional writers and they begin with the advantage. They have
1) taken the initiative,
2) chosen the topic,
3) applied their professional writing skills to make a point,
4) are a trusted source for that newspaper,
5) narrowed and focused the issue under examination,
6) defined and framed the "tone" of the issue, and
7) placed you on the defensive thus giving them a great advantage.

They have made you play their game on their ground by their rules. At this point your heritage or historical defence must work MUCH HARDER to win the point. Just like tennis there is a great advantage for you to be the “server” in the game.

Remember, the newspapers want good articles and good writers and they want to sell newspapers. You will have to work harder because the newspapers usually have a politically biased point of view. So, improve your writing skills. Take the initiative. Frame your presentation in your favour. Write them often, and be there first with the most and the best presentations.

Christmas Must Proceed In 1864

In this day of rank consumerism that dwarfs the true meaning of Christmas, it is worthwhile revisiting how Americans under siege in December, 1864 tired hard to bring a smile to children's faces. Though dispirited by the specter of poverty and foreign political domination, the opportunity to create a brighter Christmas for the children of slain American soldiers brought Richmond's citizens to action.

Bernhard Thuersam, Executive Director
Cape Fear Historical Institute
www.CFHI.net

Christmas Must Proceed in 1864:

"Varina Howell Davis, Mississippi-born wife of the Southern president declared, "That Christmas season was ushered in under the thickest clouds; every one felt the cataclysm which impended, but the rosy, expectant faces of our little children were a constant reminder that self-sacrifice must be the personal offering of each member of the family."

Because of the expense involved in keeping them up, Mr.. Davis had recently sold her carriage and horses. A warm-spirited Confederate bought them back and sent them to her. Now she planned to dispose of one of her best satin dresses to obtain funds; with Christmas on the way, the children had high expectations, and she would use all possible makeshifts in an effort to fulfill them. The Richmond housewives could find no currants, raisins, or other vital ingredients for old Virginia mincemeat pie. But, Mrs. Davis went on, the young considered at least one slice their right, "and the price of indigestion...a debt of honor due from them to the season's exactions."

Despite the war, apple trees still bore fruit; with these as a base, she and the other women of the city would utilize any other fruit that came to hand. A little cider and some salt were obtained, as was brandy, though its usual price was a hundred dollars a bottle in inflated Confederate currency.

As for eggnog, the Negro stable attendant, who brought in "the back log, our substitute for the Yule log," said he did not know how they would "git along without no eggnog. Ef it's only a little wineglass." Plans progressed for a quiet home Christmas when unexpected word arrived: The orphans at the Episcopal home had been promised a tree and toys, cake and candy, plus a good prize for the best-behaved girl, and something had to be done about that.

Something was done. With Mrs. Davis's help, a committee of women was set up and the members repaired to their children's old toy collections to salvage dolls without eyes, monkeys that had lost their squeak, three-legged and even two-legged horses. They fixed and painted everything, plumping out rag dolls and putting new faces on them, adding fresh tails to feathered chickens and parrots.

The Davis's invited a group of young friends on Christmas Eve to help make candle molds and string popcorn and apples for the tree; Mr. Pizzini, the confectioner, contributed simple candies. For cornucopias and other ornamentation the Davis's guests used colored papers, bright pictures from old books, bits of silk out of trunks. All in all, the Christmas Eve of 1864 was far from unsatisfactory. When the small supply of eggnog went around, the eldest Davis boy assured his father: "Now I just know this is Christmas."

VERBATIM

I am sad.

Words cannot describe the sadness I feel at the Sandy Hook shootings.  I know that all of you feel the same way.

No sane person would do something like Adam Lanza did in Connecticut.  (Just as no sane person would be unaffected by the killings of 20 small children and 6 adults in a school.)  The crime that Adam Lanza committed at Sandy Hook Elementary School was pure evil.  I cannot think of any other way to describe it.  My mind cannot comprehend walking into an elementary school and carrying out the wholesale slaughter of innocent children.  It sickens me.

Some internet and print news outlets are publishing the biography of one victim each day.  Their goal appears to be to keep this horrendous crime in the public's eye as long as possible.  The reason is to keep the emotions of the unthinking masses riled up for a long enough period of time to get the necessary support of "the people" in order to get new gun control laws passed.  What other reason could they have for keeping the pain and the anguish alive for so long?  They know that Americans are self centered and have very short attention spans.

Those in the media know that if they don't keep it at the forefront of America's mind, America will forget about it in short order.  That would be disastrous to the Progressive cause.

I am angry.

I am angry at Adam Lanza for perpetrating such an evil, horrendous act.  I am angry that he took the coward's way out by committing suicide before he could be apprehended.  I am angry at the people who think that "gun control" will eliminate, or even minimize, crimes like this.  I am angry at the politicians who see this incident as an "opportunity" to push their Progressive anti-gun agenda.   I am angry at people who are willing, more than willing, to usurp our natural rights based on emotional arguments and "party line agendas" rather than on objective thought and the study of facts.  That they are  willing to make world altering decisions based only on emotion is indicative of society in America today.

I realize it's cliche' but, guns don't kill people.  People kill people.  A person makes a decision, a choice, to do harm to another.   Yet we blame the tool rather than the individual wielding the tool.

Each individual person is solely responsible for all of the choices he or she makes.  It isn't my fault that Adam Lanza perpetrated this unspeakable evil.  It isn't your fault.  It is Adam Lanza's fault.  He did it on his own.  The Progressives want to punish you and me though, for his choice.  Is there one iota of logic in that?

Don't blame the tool.  Blame the fool.  The tool is incapable of doing anything at all without the intervention of the fool.

The reality.

Killings in schools are not new.  They have been going on for a long time but have increased in frequency in the past 30 years or so.  They are not unique to the United States, either.  Google "School Killings".  You may be surprised.  Little Billy gets bullied by Bobby and Jerry every day at school so one day he brings a gun or a knife to school and ends the torment.  Perhaps he picks up a large rock and crushes their skulls.  Timmy and Susi are in love hot and heavy until one day Susi decides she likes Jack more than she likes Timmy.  Timmy comes to school one day and kills one or both of them.  A college student fails to be accepted into an advanced degree program so he kills the professor whom he feels wrongly denied him an opportunity that he was entitled to.  After he kills the professor, he kills several students who just happen to be nearby.  It happens.

Why?

I'm sure that a highly educated doctor or professor or someone like that could give you a better sounding answer than I can.

The simple answer is that our children are spoiled brats.  They have never been taught to be responsible and they have never been held accountable for their actions or lack of action.  They have never been disciplined or punished in any meaningful way when they break the rules.  (FYI: "Time out" is neither discipline nor punishment)  Many of them have never been taught the rules.  They don't know God and they don't know the difference between right and wrong.

Parents no longer take responsibility for raising their children.  Mom drops Sally and Jim off at daycare on her way to work.  The daycare staff makes sure that Sally gets on the bus to school and they babysit little Jimmy all day.  Sally rides the bus back to daycare after school and stays there until mom gets off work and gets done with her workout at the gym.  She picks the kids up and takes them home, possibly stopping at Mac's Supper Club for burgers and fries at the drive through.  Dad gets home (if there is a dad) shortly after they do.  He is tired and hungry and wants only to eat and sleep.

The weekend finds the kids going to a soccer tournament where Sally's  team finishes 19th out of 20 teams.  She gets a medal for participating.  Don't want any winners and certainly don't want any losers.  Don't want any hurt feelings.  Mom hangs out with a couple of her friends while one of the friends' 9 year old daughter keeps an eye on Jim.  When Jim gets to kindergarten he will get certificates of accomplishment when he learns to tie his shoes and when he can count to ten and when he can say his ABCs.  When he gets a bit older he will try out for join the baseball team but he won't enjoy it because he is lazy and he sucks.  He just wants to get home to play Halo 2 and to kill or be killed with his "friends" while sitting safely in his mother's basement.  Dad has been gone for years.  He and his ex wife are both remarried so Jim and Sally have another mother and father.  When Sally was 15 she wanted to be accepted by her 19 year old boyfriend so they had sex.  You know, so that she could show her "love" for him.  She ended up pregnant.  She had no idea that there were people out there who would gladly help her raise her child and she was terrified because her boyfriend left her when he found out that she was "stupid enough" to let herself get pregnant.  She had an abortion.

The kids have been left on their own to their own devices for so long that they do not know how to properly and successfully deal with their feelings.  They don't know how to make decisions and they don't know how to resolve conflict.  If mom and dad, or their friends, aren't around to give them bad advice, they freeze.  They don't know what to do.

The time comes when they have to grow up and get a job and become a productive member of society.  They are faced with a foreign world where there are rules and expectations.  They find that they can't cope.

Anyway, where was I?

Oh yeah...  Why?  Why do these young 20 somethings snap and kill people.  I don't know.  I don't have the answer nor do I have any ideas...  You'll have to ask someone smarter than me.

BTW, I have a 6 year old granddaughter.  She is in kindergarten.  I love her more than life.

Stay safe.

South Carolina Lawmakers Propose 5-Year Jail Sentence for 'Obamacare' Implementation

Nullification is yet again picking up steam in Dixie.

Pursuing an archaic legal theory that punctuated pre-Civil War disputes between the federal government and states, South Carolina state Rep. Bill Chumley last week pre-filed a bill for the upcoming legislative session that would criminalize implementation of President Barack Obama's 2010 healthcare reform law.

If his bill becomes law, any state official caught enforcing the healthcare law would be guilty of a misdemeanor and "must be fined not more than one thousand dollars or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."

Federal officials caught enforcing the law, however, would be given stiffer punishment under the proposal.

Any federal employee or contractor enforcing the law "is guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than five thousand dollars, or imprisoned not more than five years, or both," the bill proposes.

"I think we're within our rights to do this," Chumley explained to U.S. News. "It's an obligation, I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution and protect the people."

The bill was drafted after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the healthcare law in June, a decision that Chumley strongly disagrees with. In response, says Chumley, "we put a little study committee together to look at the possibility of nullification."

The study group included local lawyers, retired political science professors, and medical doctors, Chumley says. Another attendee was state Sen. Lee Bright, who is proposing similar legislation in the legislature's upper chamber.

"If we don't do something now, when do we?" says Chumley. "It's a sad situation that the government put us in... an unpleasant task you have to do from time to time."

"I feel very, very good about support," he adds. "I don't think it'll be a really hard sell."

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, also a Republican, has made no public statement on the bill. Chumley said he has seen Haley just once since setting up his study group and "didn't want to bother her with this."

Among the items in the healthcare law that irk Chumley are the individual health insurance mandate, "the establishment of 150 or so more agencies," "the addition of many thousand new IRS agents," and "home visits to come out and see how you're living."

UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh, however, told U.S. News the proposed law "would be clearly un-enforceable, because the federal law – upheld by the Supreme Court – trumps state law."

"But I assume it's meant to make a political statement, not to have a direct legal effect," adds Volokh.

NRA releases statement on Conn. shooting

VERBATIM

The National Rifle Association has put out a statement saying it is "prepared to offer meaningful contributions" to prevent more violence like that which occurred in Newtown, Conn., last week. The organization said it will hold a news conference in the Washington, D.C., area on Friday.

Additionally, the organization broke its silence on social media, and put its Facebook page back up Tuesday afternoon, timed to the statement's release. The page had been down for several days following the shooting. The NRA also posted a Tweet Tuesday for the first time since Friday, linking to the statement.

The statement reads:

"The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.

"Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

"The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

"The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

"Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time."

Good luck unless we get rid of the gun free zones, arm those who wish in the schools and probably have one armed cop at each.

Atheists put up anti-Christmas billboard in New York City

American Atheists is an organization run by a gentleman named David Silverman.
Shocking, I know.

 Jewish Christmas

Their hatred of Christ is venomous. I guess that’s one thing that hasn’t changed in the last 2000 years.
NEW YORK – American Atheists, the leading secular organization in the U.S., has launched its Christmas billboard campaign in New York City, urging people to abandon the Jesus Christ “myth.”
“Keep the merry! Dump the myth!” the billboard reads, which features a jolly image of Santa Clause above a solemn wooden figure of the crucified Christ. A press release shared with The Christian Post by Teresa MacBain, Public Relations Director at American Atheists, notes that the billboard is strategically placed at the popular Times Square tourist location.
“We know that a large population of ‘Christians’ are actually atheists who feel trapped in their family’s religion. If you know god is a myth, you do not have to lie and call yourself ‘Christian’ in order to have a festive holiday season. You can be merry without the myth, and indeed, you should,” said David Silverman, President of American Atheists.
American Atheists puts out a number of billboard campaigns every year, seeking to spread the message that non-believers are not alone and that people do not need religion.
During last year’s Christmas campaign, the secular organization released a billboard in New Jersey that compared Jesus to Satan, Santa Clause, and the Greek god Poseidon.

The nation is mourning the loss of 20 children and 26 lives.... shame on you and GRNC for sending these emails out now.  Our thoughts are for the children and their families not the politics of guns.  And whether gun legislation is needed is a thought for another day, but the one thing I am not going to do today is blame the 1995 federal Act for this tragedy or suggest it should be repealed because a man used legally obtained assault rifles to shoot his way into an elementary school where he killed 26 people--many first grade children-- with those same guns.  What an ill-timed and ill-conceived email and argument.

Just A Couple Of Points from Classic Arms of NC

Almost from the first reports of this tragedy many in the media took to the airways to demand more restrictive gun control. For the most part the people who are leading this charge have never fired a weapon, have never been a part of the shooting culture, and are unable to explain to me how further restrictions on honest Americans would have prevented this tragedy. I watched an ABC anchor who could not even pronounce the name of the weapon he was describing, nor explain the caliber or function of the firearm properly, strongly  imply that we needed to get rid of these weapons. Make no mistake, the media is using this to promote their own left wing agenda.

I am offended by biased reporting, and I am further offended that we who believe in the Second Amendment are forced to defend our rights at a time of such heartache. It is a no win situation thrust upon us which can then be used to demonize us and call us insensitive. The anti-gunners know this and use it to their advantage.

Secondly, Stop calling the monster that did this the shooter. It is far too dignified. I am a shooter. I was raised in a household that always had firearms and held them, and the responsibility that came along with owning and using them responsibly, in very high esteem. I have been part of the shooting community for over 30 years. Gun owners are responsible, God fearing, family oriented individuals who raise respectful children, love their neighbors, hold down jobs, pay their taxes, contribute to charity, believe in the sanctity of life, and treat others with respect and dignity.

They are hard working assetts to society and they are the finest people I know. These shooters do not deserve to be lumped in with the individual that committed this horrible act. Let's start referring to him as what he was...

A cowardly child murderer.

This guy in Connecticut, The Columbine Duo, The Aurora Movie Theater gunman, and unfortunately the list goes on.

None of these were a part of the shooting community. In fact, they never are. They are outcast, troubled individuals who cry out for attention and I have no doubt that if they could not obtain a gun they would use a machete, set off a bomb, or drive a car through a crowd, all in a sick grab for attention or to somehow feel important or immortalized.

The thing we can do is stop glorifying thieir actions through our media coverage and giving excessive press attention to these sick murdering scum in a chase for ratings. Also, when we do have to refer to them, refer to them as what they are. Yes they may be "sick " or "picked on ' or social outcast, but when they cross the line they are murdering scum and should not be given the pleasure of the media attention their sick minds desire.

Oh Well, I've been on my soapbox too long

In conclussion, I do not have the answers. As a parent I can only imagine the pain these victims families are suffering and I have literally cried along with them. Rick and I have talked about this and if we honestly thought that pulling guns from the market would in any way stop incidence such as this from happening we would close the doors tomorrow and walk away.

Unfortunately I am convinced that what we have is a cultural problem, not a gun problem.
I am also convinced that our second amendment freedoms are the greatest safeguard we have in protecting all of our other freedoms and even our way of life as Americans. When they succeed in taking our guns, I am convinced that our other liberties will soon follow. Then we all lose.

Please continue to pray for our country, pray for our leaders, and pray for those families who have lost so much in Newtown Connecticut.

Comment: I live in Connecticut. The gun owners I know are good folks who love God, their families, friends, and community, They would be the first to muster and defend their neighbors in a time of need or danger. The school shooting in Connecticut by a mentally disturbed young man does not reflect who these good people are. I think all firearm and ammo suppliers should participate in communicating to everyone how loving, caring, and responsible real gun owners are.

We agree Joe - And Thank You for your e-mail

Comment: Connecticut footnote: About 30 miles from Newtown, CT. is another small town, Cheshire, Ct. In July 2007 two convicted felons invaded the home of Dr. Wm. Petit. They bludgeoned him with a baseball bat, raped and strangled his wife, raped their two daughters and then tied them to their beds and burned them alive in the house. They were defenseless. At that time everyone in Connecticut, and anyone else who heard of this, wanted a gun. And sales skyrocketed. Many people who were anti-gun changed their minds and bought home defense shotguns. We all have very short memories.

Gun sales surge after Connecticut massacre

The prospect of a renewed assault weapons ban in the wake of the Connecticut school massacre has set of a round of buying, as thousands of Americans head to their local gun store to secure the popular AR-15 -- the model used by the school gunman -- before potential government prohibitions on their purchase.

They are also buying the .223 ammunition used by the AR-15 and the type of high-capacity magazines covered under the last federal assault weapons ban, which Congress let expire without renewing.
  • The Colorado Bureau of Investigation says it set a new record for single-day background check submittals this past weekend.
  • In San Diego, Northwest Armory gun store owner Karl Durkheimer said Saturday "was the biggest day we've seen in 20 years. Sunday will probably eclipse that."
  • In southwest Ohio, from dawn to dusk a Cincinnati gun show had a line of 400 waiting to get in, said Joe Eaton of the Buckeye Firearms Association.
"Sales were through the roof on Saturday," said Eaton. "People were buying everything they could out of fear the president would try to ban certain guns and high-capacity magazines."

Virginia governor open to discussion about arming school employees

A second Republican governor on Tuesday expressed his openness to considering arming school personnel, including teachers, as a line of defense against violence such as the Friday shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell did not outwardly endorse such a plan, but cautioned against immediately rejecting it.

"I know there's been a knee jerk reaction against that," McDonnell said to the idea when asked in an interview on WTOP, a Washington radio station. "I think there should be a discussion of that - if people were armed, not just the police officer but other school officials were trained and chose to have a weapon, certainly there would have been an opportunity to stop aggressors coming in to the schools."

His comments follow an endorsement of the idea by Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, Monday night. He said teachers with the proper training and license should have "access to weapons in their school" and licensed Texans "should be able to carry your handgun anywhere in this state."

McDonnell pointed to armed airline pilots as an example of non-law enforcement professionals carrying firearms on the job. Thousands of pilots have gone through training and been authorized to carry a firearm aboard their airplane.

Michigan Gov Rick Snyder talks to Devin

The bill sent to the Republican governor by the GOP-controlled Michigan legislature would have allowed someone who gets extra training to have a concealed weapon in a gun-free zone. The bill, Senate Bill 59, arrived on Snyder's desk on Tuesday. On Monday, the governor said he would be giving the bill "extra consideration" following the mass shooting in Newtown, Conn.

The law also would have put county sheriffs in charge of concealed-weapons applications instead of local boards. Schools, churches and other entities could declare themselves off-limits to openly carried guns under trespass laws.

Snyder has also ordered a multi-departmental assessment of the state's services and needs regarding at-risk children. While he vetoed Senate Bill 59, Snyder did sign two other bills that are meant to streamline the process for handgun purchases and eliminate restrictions on interstate rifle and shotgun transactions to states which border Michigan.

According to his office, Snyder vetoed the concealed weapons bill because it fails to "let designated public entities such as schools, day care centers and hospitals opt out of the new concealed carry provisions."

‘Fast and Furious’ Gun Found At Site Where Mexican Beauty Queen Killed

A gun found at the scene of a shootout between a Mexican drug cartel and soldiers where a beauty queen died was part of the botched “Fast and Furious” operation, CBS News reports.

Authorities had said that Maria Susana Flores Gamez was likely used as a human shield and that an automatic rifle had been found near her body after the Nov. 23 shootout.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, tells CBS News that the Justice Department did not notify Congress that a Fast and Furious firearm was found at the scene in Sinaloa.

CBS News learned the Romanian AK-47-type WASR-10 rifle found near her body was purchased by Uriel Patino at an Arizona gun shop in 2010. Patino is a suspect who allegedly purchased 700 guns while under the ATF’s watch.

Texas Democratic Party leader, blogger calls for shooting NRA members

Democrats have never excelled in logic.

Texas Democrat issued tweet calling for NRA members to be shot

On Sunday, we reported that liberals on Twitter called for the murder of NRA members. One of those making the calls was identified Sunday as John Cobarruvias, a blogger, Democratic precinct chairman in the Houston area and a member of the Texas Democratic Executive Committee.

"Can we now shoot the #NRA and everyone who defends them?" he tweeted.

After reading about the tweets on another site, Yvonne Larsen noticed a familiar name.

"Among the selection of tweets advocating for the murder of NRA President Keene and all NRA members was a name familiar to me; probably familiar to many readers of Houston’s Liberal blog sites," she wrote at Big Jolly Politics.

Larsen said she "pasted a screen shot from the Freedom’s Outpost story in case NASA employee and Democrat Precinct 699 Chair John Cobarruvias of the Houstonblog Bay Area Houston tries to delete his tweet."

"You are an embarrassment to precinct chairs everywhere - and Americans. You sound like the next crazed shooter," one person tweeted in response.

Cerberus to sell gunmaker after massacre

But they will keep all the profits.  Hypocrites.

Freedom Group includes Bushmaster, maker of the rifle used in the shooting at the school in Newtown. Cerberus bought Bushmaster in 2006 before adding another 10 makers of firearms, ammunition and accessories to the group.

"It is apparent that the Sandy Hook tragedy was a watershed event that has raised the national debate on gun control to an unprecedented level," Cerberus Capital Management said in a statement.

Cerberus will hire advisers to carry out a sale of the company, and return the money to its investors, which include the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS).

The investment firm said it was not seeking to influence the debate on gun control but had decided to sell Freedom Group to protect the interests of its clients, which also include the pension plans of other municipal workers, endowments, institutions and individuals.

Oath Keepers to Provide Teachers With Free Self-Defense and Firearms Training

 Via midnightrider

Oath Keepers, a national association of over 20,000 military, police, and first responders, is offering free instruction in self defense, including the use of firearms and other tools of self-defense, to all teachers and school staff in the United States.   This initiative is in response to the recent tragic mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.   The volunteer instructors will be drawn from the member rolls of Oath Keepers in each state.   Those instructors will be paired up with any teachers and school staff in the same state who contact Oath Keepers and request instruction.

The organization pledges to keep their identity confidential, but will also offer group lessons or to come to the school to teach the staff on-site.   Topics will include crime awareness and crisis minset training on how to effectively respond (and especially focused on mass-shootings), use of blunt objects and improvised objects for self-defense, use of knives, use of pepper spray, empty-hand defensive tactics (such as are taught in military combatives), and methods of disarming an attacker who is armed with guns or knives, as well as use of firearms.  The first responders within the organization are being asked to volunteer to teach emergency first aid for serious trauma, including gunshot and knife wounds.

Gov. Rick Perry speaks out against gun control hysteria, approves carrying in schools

Via Angry Mike

Perry: People with permits should be able to carry guns anywhere in public including schools. @NBCDFW
Local news reporters in Texas are buzzing about Gov. Rick Perry’s appearance before a Tea Party group in the city North Richland Hills. Commenting on the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Conn., the governor expressed his condolences, but would not budge on the issue of Second Amendment rights.
Not only is Perry not joining the sudden rush to ban guns, he’s doubling down and talking about the need for armed school staff to protect our children.
Perry also said localities should decide their own regulations regarding gun permits and schools.
Perry just clarified he supports "local control" for deciding whether permit holders can carry guns in schools. @NBCDFW

Austin Gun Store Owner Offers Teachers A Discount

An Austin-area gun store owner is joining the gun rights debate with a controversial offer for teachers in light of the tragic shooting in Connecticut.
Crocket Keller of Kellers Riverside Gun Store says if educators want to get a concealed handgun license, he’ll give them a discount.

“As we do with veterans, I would offer them a discount. Our normal rate is $110.00, so I would give them a rate of $90.00,” said Keller to KRLD. “If they are teachers, we would be more than happy to do that.”

Armed Citizen Shoots Gunman Attacking People at Movie Theater

Via Angry Mike

From WOAI [emphasis added]:

Two people are hospitalized after a gunman chased terrified restaurant patrons into the lobby of the Santikos Mayan 14 movie theater during a showing of “The Hobbit” last night, 1200 WOAI news reprots [sic].

Police detectives and sheriff’s investigators say the incident started in the China Garden Restaurant on Southwest Military Drive about 9 PM Sunday, when an employee of the restaurant walked in looking for a woman.

When the woman, who officials say is also a restaurant employee, wasn’t there, the man pulled a gun and attempted to open fire in the restaurant but his weapon jammed.

”It started at the restaurant and then went into the parking lot and then into the movie theater,” Deputy Lou Antu told 1200 WOAI news.

Investigators say some of the terrified restaurant patrons poured into the movie theater, and the gunman followed.

He opened fire, shooting one man in the chest, before Antu says an off duty sheriff’s deputy who was working security at the theater shot him once.

“The officer involved, she took the appropriate action to try to keep everyone safe in the movie theater,” Antu said.

The gunman and the patron are hospitalized.

The Facts about Mass Shootings

 Via Angry Mike

A few things you won’t hear about from the saturation coverage of the Newtown, Conn., school massacre:

Mass shootings are no more common than they have been in past decades, despite the impression given by the media.
In fact, the high point for mass killings in the U.S. was 1929, according to criminologist Grant Duwe of the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
Incidents of mass murder in the U.S. declined from 42 in the 1990s to 26 in the first decade of this century.
The chances of being killed in a mass shooting are about what they are for being struck by lightning.
Until the Newtown horror, the three worst K–12 school shootings ever had taken place in either Britain or Germany.
Almost all of the public-policy discussion about Newtown has focused on a debate over the need for more gun control. In reality, gun control in a country that already has 200 million privately owned firearms is likely to do little to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals. We would be better off debating two taboo subjects — the laws that make it difficult to control people with mental illness and the growing body of evidence that “gun-free” zones, which ban the carrying of firearms by law-abiding individuals, don’t work.

Are American Gun Owners Gutless?

Good news! It looks like we will hit the 25,000 signatures needed on our Whitehouse.gov petition that will require President Obama or his staff to answer.

Bad news! It won't matter that much. The anti-gun petition is being fueled by the mainstream media and is up over 160,000 signatures. It is a record for the petition system since it began. The second place petition is also anti-gun and currently has over 30,000 signatures. You guys couldn't even beat the also ran.

Bad news #2! While over 60,000 of you clicked into the petition website page yesterday (yes, we count), only 20,000 of you signed the petition. We understand your need for privacy, but the government already knows who you are. They scan in all of your 4473 forms! ARE YOU GOING TO STAND OR ARE YOU GOING TO TRY TO HIDE?

Over 1350 websites linked to our petition today, but it just isn't good enough. We need the major firearm manufacturers to post the link in their Facebooks, and that means you need to go post it on all of their Facebook pages. Many of them have fans in excess of a quarter million. WILL YOU ALL BE SILENT WHILE NANCY AND HARRY SALIVATE OVER OUR GUN RIGHTS?

NEWS FLASH: The NRA shut down their 1.7 million strong Facebook page today. This petition is the only pro-gun petition in the running. The Whitehouse petition site may not be the perfect place to plead the case of the law abiding American gun owner, but it is all we have.

GunsAmerica is only one website. We email over 700,000 subscribers, but it isn't enough against a media barrage from every major network and online outlet, reaching into the tens of millions. If you have a website with readers, a blog, anything, please link it directly to the petition page on the Whitehouse website. Do not link to the GunsAmerica Blog page. The full letter is not what matters now. It is purely that number that matters, and if we can get it up to 50,000 today Drudge will probably pick it up. It is our only hope to have a voice in this discussion.

It is up to us to do the heavy lifting through these first few days. Please sign the petition, and help out if you can.
