A wealthy businessman in Hong Kong has reportedly offered $65 million for a man to woo away his lesbian daughter from her long-term girlfriend.

Cecil Chao Sze-tsung, 76, made the offer after he heard reports that his daughter, Gigi Chao, entered into a civil partnership with her girlfriend Sean B. Eav.

He told the South China Morning Post that those reports are false.

“I don’t mind whether he is rich or poor. The important thing is that he is generous and kind-hearted,” Mr. Chao told The Daily Telegraph about the man he is seeking for his daughter.

Chao is one of Hong Kong’s wealthiest businessmen and said the money he is offering can be used for someone to start their own business.

“Gigi is a very good woman with both talents and looks. She is devoted to her parents, is generous, and does volunteer work,” he told the Telegraph.

A well pump idea from Hans

I was looking at third-world solutions (PDF's) for well-pumps to get ideas for a manual pump that could be lowered into my well-casing in the event of a grid-down SHTF scenario.  I decided to play a bit in the shop and prototype 'my' version of a lift-pump.

The bottom disk on the lift rod is the 'flap valve' made of a circle of neoprene rubber (valve and guide - 2).  I added a second disk to minimize binding of the flap valve when the lift rod is operated.  The brass check-valve at the bottom is the only style available yesterday at Home Depot.  I would have preferred an in-line style check-valve that could be mounted inside the 1.5 in PVC cylinder.  A piece of hobby-shop brass tube is slipped over the threaded rod and secured with nuts to provide a smooth surface and minimize wear at the top cap.  I would use unthreaded rod in a 'production' pump.

I noticed the diameters of the valve and guide disks have to be sized for the specific PVC chosen for the pump cylinder.  There is enough variation in the internal diameter of several scrap pieces of 1.5 inch Type 1 Schedule 40 PVC that the disks are loose in some and won't fit others.  This was the only "critical" parts dimension.  The neoprene circle was trimmed "proud" of the disk with scissors.

Several web sites described similar hand operated lift pumps that could be used at depths down to 100 ft.  For short depth of my well (30- 40 ft ... water at 20 ft) the lift rod could be 1/4-20 threaded rod.  For deeper wells I would use lengths of commercially available fiberglass lift rod.

This prototype is clearly a throw-away experiment, but it operates with low friction and really does a great job of pumping out my rain buckets !  With a few minor design changes to the lower check-valve, riser pipe and addition of lever style pump handle, I could envision lowering 30 ft of this into my well-casing.

DEA Boss: Mexican Drug Cartels Are So Deeply Embedded in Chicago, We Have to Operate Like We‘re ’On the Border’

DEA Agent Jack Riley: Mexican Drug Cartels Are Embedded in Chicago

The city may be nearly 2,000 miles from Mexico, but the country’s drug cartels are so deeply embedded in Chicago that local and federal law enforcement are forced to operate as if they are “on the border,” according to Jack Riley, special agent in charge for the Chicago Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Because of Chicago’s location in the heart of the United States, its large Mexican population and its abundance of street gang activity, drug cartels have designated the city as one of its main hubs of operation in America, Riley told TheBlaze in an exclusive interview. Inevitably, the increasing presence of cartels has also contributed to the Windy City’s skyrocketing violent crime rates, the DEA boss revealed.

My opinion is, right now, a number of the Mexican cartels are probably the most organized, well-funded, vicious criminal organizations that we’ve ever seen,” said Riley.

The Twilight Zone: If Obama Had Never Been President

Welcome to Bernankeville, the City of Jokernomics

“Where were you when the dollar died?”

That’s a question people will be asking you in the not-too-distant future. The past few weeks have seen several events transpire that spell the inevitable ruin of the dollar. As usual, only some of these events have been reported in the mainstream press, leaving most Americans blissfully clueless about the catastrophe roaring towards them.

Most people are aware that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke recently announced the Fed would begin “purchasing additional agency mortgage-backed securities at a pace of $40 billion per month.” Additionally, the Fed “will continue through the end of the year its program to extend the average maturity of its holdings of securities as announced in June, and it is maintaining its existing policy of reinvesting principal payments from its holdings of agency debt and agency mortgage-backed securities in agency mortgage-backed securities.” Taken together, the Fed will “increase the Committee’s holdings” of long-term securities to the tune of $85 billion per month, at least through the end of the year. And then? The Fed “will continue its purchases of agency mortgage-backed securities, undertake additional asset purchases”, use its “other policy tools” until such time as the labor market—read “unemployment rate”—improves “substantially”. How much is “substantially”? Mr. Bernanke didn’t say. For all practical purposes, this third round of Qualitative Easing (QE3, as it’s being called) will go on and on and on…until Mr. Bernanke says “enough”. So, at least in theory, QE3 will obviate the need for QE4, QE5, QE6 and so on…because it’s QE “Until”.

43% Expect Better Economy if Romney Wins; 34% Say Same of Obama

Most voters still think the economy will get worse or stay about the same, no matter which candidate wins the White House and which party wins control of Congress in November. But they’re now a little more confident in economic gains if Mitt Romney and the Republicans come out ahead. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 34% of Likely U.S. Voters think the economy is likely to get better if President Obama is reelected and Democrats regain full control of Congress, marking little change from early July when the two sides ran nearly even. By comparison, 43% now believe the economy is likely to improve if Romney wins and the GOP is in charge of Congress. That’s up seven points from 36% in the previous survey.

Recession Looms: GDP Revised Down to 1.3%, Durable Goods Collapse 13%

 United States GDP Growth Rate

Because the media-narrative for the next 40 days must be: Obama can do nothing wrong and Romney can do nothing right, the corrupt media will surely focus on the fact that today's jobless claims were lower than expected at 359,000 (which you can only celebrate on a curve). But there's potentially catastrophic news in the economy today, with two leading indicators that point towards a coming recession.

Our 2nd quarter GDP has just been revised downward from an already anemic 1.7% to a shockingly weak 1.3%. Moreover, orders for durable goods went -- as Hot Air's Ed Morrissey points out --  "over a cliff," collapsing a full 13%. Morrissey also reports that this is the single largest decrease in over four years and that a subsequent increase in inventories this month means demand won't be improving any time soon.
The 1.3 percent growth in the spring followed a sluggish 2 percent growth rate in the first quarter, rates too slow to lower unemployment. The unemployment rate was 8.1 percent in August. Most expect it to stay around 8 percent for the rest of this year because they anticipate little pickup in growth.
Before Thursday's revision in the April-June figures, the consensus view was that the economy expanded in the July-September quarter at a lackluster pace of between 1.5 percent to 2 percent. They expected the final three months of the year will be about the same. For all of 2011, the economy grew 1.8 percent.
What the AP fails to highlight, though, is that our economy is slowing, from 2.0% in the first quarter of the year to 1.3% the second quarter.
Here's the GDP growth chart going back to the beginning of 2008. As you can see, in the last quarter of 2011, we hit a 3% growth rate. But ever since, the trend, like job creation, is down, down, down....
UPDATE 2: AEI's Jim Pethokoukis says we have entered into a "recession red zone."

Taxpayers spent $1.4 billion on Obama family last year

Taxpayers spent $1.4 billion dollars on everything from staffing, housing, flying and entertaining President Obama and his family last year, according to the author of a new book on taxpayer-funded presidential perks.

In comparison, British taxpayers spent just $57.8 million on the royal family.

Author Robert Keith Gray writes in “Presidential Perks Gone Royal” that Obama isn’t the only president to have taken advantage of the expensive trappings of his office. But the amount of money spent on the first family, he argues, has risen tremendously under the Obama administration and needs to be reined in.
Gray told The Daily Caller that the $1.4 billion spent on the Obama family last year is the “total cost of the presidency,” factoring the cost of the “biggest staff in history at the highest wages ever,” a 50 percent increase in the numbers of appointed czars and an Air Force One “running with the frequency of a scheduled air line.”

“The most concerning thing, I think, is the use of taxpayer funds to actually abet his re-election,” Gray, who worked in the Eisenhower administration and for other Republican presidents, said in an interview with TheDC on Wednesday.

Household income down 8.2 percent since Obama took office, study shows

Median household incomes have fallen 8.2 percent since President Obama took office and continue to drop despite the official end of the  recession, a new study shows.

Data compiled by Sentier Research found that since the economic recovery technically began in June 2009, median household income has dropped 5.7 percent. As of August, that median income was $50,678 -- also down 1.1 percent from the month prior.

And since Obama took office in January 2009, the median income has fallen 8.2 percent, from $55,198 to its present figure.

"The August decline in real median annual household income is indicative of a struggling economy," Sentier said in its report.

"Even though we are technically in an economic recovery, real median annual household income is having a difficult time maintaining its present level, much less 'recovering.'"

Identifying Three Trends in Far Right Violence in the United States

Blah, blah, blah.............

CTCSentinel-Vol5Iss9

In the morning hours of August 5, 2012, the Sikh temple at Oak Creek, Wisconsin, was crowded with children and mothers engaged in preparations for the Langar, a traditional Sikh communal meal scheduled to be held later that day. At around 10:00 AM, Wade Michael Page, a 40-year-old from nearby Cudahy, Wisconsin, arrived in the temple parking lot and started firing at the temple’s inhabitants using a pistol purchased several days earlier. He then entered the temple and continued his killing spree until he was gunned down by police forces that arrived to the site. At that point, he had already killed six worshippers and a police officer.[1]

While details from the investigation have not yet been officially released, a growing body of evidence links Page to various far right elements, mainly the skinheads subculture and the white power music scene. As a result, policymakers and intellectuals expressed concerns about a potential revival of far right violence in the United States. Many of their responses also reflected common misconceptions and deficiencies that dominate the popular discourse about the American far right, such as the inability to distinguish between its different components, lack of understanding of its ideological tenets as well as the tendency to ignore the fact that American far right violence was never really absent; if anything, the level of far right violence has been rising steadily for the last two decades.
This article provides clarity on the various components of the American far right. It also offers a basic analytical model to better understand its current violent trends. The article’s findings—which are based on a dataset of more than 4,400 cases of violent attacks by far right elements during a 22-year period—will be expanded in a more detailed study that will soon be published by the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point.

Cultural Marxists Win First Round in Selma—more to come

 Via Billy

 http://vnafmamn.com/untoldpage/xuanloc_battle26.jpg

The city council in Selma, Alabama had their meeting on Tuesday evening, September 25th and voted 4-0 to suspend work on the Forrest Monument. There were 2 abstentions. Is anyone really surprised? After years of watching this sort of thing you begin to get a feel for it and you can almost predict how politically correct politicians will vote on a given issue. And thanks to the rantings of black extremists this is a politically charged issue.

I have been checking with some folks in that area and found out that Confederate Circle, where the monument is belongs to Selma Chapter 53 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy by virtue of the fact that on April 17, 1877, the Selma City Council donated the land to the Ladies Memorial Association, of which Chapter 53 of the UDC is an outgrowth. The city of Selma  bought the land from the Sallie Jones estate in 1877…the deed did not get recorded until 1896…Selma Chapter 53 of the UDC was chartered on April 26, 1896. The folks involved with this do not know why the deed was not recorded until 1896 for the city of Selma but think it was an oversight, not found until 20 years afterward. Unless they find the recording of the deed they assume its not being recorded was merely an oversight.

At this point, Confederate Circle where the monument is has been surveyed by a local surveyor. Interestingly enough, in the process of all this, it has been discovered that each of the city schools in Selma do not have a deed to the property they are on, which they thought they owned. The city of Selma is currently preparing deeds for them to correct that slight oversight.

A lawyer has been hired by those wanting to keep the Forrest Monument and this will all eventually go to court.

North Carolina: Emergency Powers Law Takes Effect this Monday

Via Michael

NRA
VERBATIM

The new emergency powers statute, passed in the North Carolina General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Bev Perdue (D) on  June 11, takes effect on Monday, October 1.

House Bill 843 made substantial changes to the North Carolina Emergency Management Act by adding critical language to the section of North Carolina statute that deals with what restrictions may be imposed during a declared state of emergency.

Specifically, this new law states that the restrictions section “does not authorize prohibitions or restrictions on lawfully possessed firearms or ammunition.”  This means that, if there is a declared state of emergency due to natural disasters or other problems that create a state of disarray and unrest that requires emergency procedures to be implemented by a government entity, the rights of law-abiding gun owners will no longer be subject to possible suspension.  The state Senate added this critical language to HB 843 in the Senate Judiciary I Committee, and HB 843 as amended then passed in the full Senate on June 5 by a 49-0 vote.  The House concurred with the Senate amendments on the following day by a 113 to 1 vote.

America’s Last Crusade

For Americans of the Greatest Generation that fought World War II and of the Silent Generation that came of age in the 1950s, the great moral and ideological cause was the Cold War.

It gave purpose and clarity to our politics and foreign policy, and our lives.

From the fall of Berlin in 1945 to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, that Cold War was waged by two generations, and with its end Americans faced a fundamental question:

If the historic struggle between communism and freedom is over, if the Soviet Empire and Soviet Union no longer exist, if the Russians wish to befriend us and the Maoists have taken the capitalist road, what is our new mission in the world? What do we do now?

The debate was suspended when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. George H.W. Bush assembled a mighty coalition and won a war that required but 100 hours of ground combat.

We had found our mission.

The United States was the last superpower and a triumphant Bush declared that we would build the “New World Order.” Neoconservatives rhapsodized over America’s “unipolar moment” and coming “global hegemony.”

But Americans were unpersuaded and uninspired. They rejected the victor of Desert Storm — for Bill Clinton. By Y2K, the Republican Party was backing another Bush who was promising a “more humble” America.
