Unions

  1. To be fair, the unions had help. How many decades of Democrat-dominated city government did it take to bring Detroit to this point?

  2. Somewhere, somebody posted pics of 1945 Detroit and Hiroshima (post A-bomb) side by side with pics of the two cities in 2012 below. Its scary to see how Hiroshima has been rebuilt and Detroit has been "de-built" over the years.

  3. In 1971 I attended a week-long plant start-up school in Detroit. We visited an automobile plant each day in Detroit and Flint. At night, I rode a city bus alone far across town to see a movie (which shall be nameless) and back, unarmed and unafraid. We also ate at the Wine Cellars restaurant which claimed to have invented Cold Duck. The waiter poured from a bottle of champagne and a bottle of sparking burgundy at the same time. If I ever go back to drinking, give me Cold Duck with the steak and Kahlua (my last drink in 1984) after dinner. It's like riding a bicycle--you never forget how to do it.
