Pakistani Makers of US Flags Set to Prosper From Obama Re-election

Perhaps one of the few industries that see Obama’s re-election in a positive light is the flag making industry in Pakistan.  More specifically, the makers of US flags, but not for the reason you would expect.

Under the Obama administration, there has been a steady increase in the number of drone surveillance and attacks over Pakistan boundaries.  With each new drone intrusion, anti-US protests erupt throughout the country.  If the drone mission involves a strike against Al Qaeda or Taliban forces, the protests are bigger.

With each protest comes the burning of at least one, often numerous, US flags.  The more drones over Pakistan, the more protests.  The more protests, the more US flags are burned.  The more flags that get burned, the more flags have to be produced.

Flag makers like Nadeem Shah in Rawalpindi said that the re-election of Barack Obama is good news for the flag making industry as the general belief among most Pakistanis is that drone missions will only increase under Obama’s second term.  Shah told news reporters:

“Of course Obama has become stronger now and he will push his policies harder and there will be more drone strikes because he himself is stronger now.”

“When the drone strikes increase the protests against these strikes will also increase in Pakistan and it can have an impact on the flags and poster business.”

So while a number of US companies are already looking to downsize due to Obama’s re-election, Pakistani flag-makers are welcoming the extra business.  Isn’t it ironic that Obama’s re-election is proving to be beneficial to our nation’s enemies?
