Allen West, Patrick Murphy congressional race: West has 9 point lead over Murphy in new poll

Rep. Allen West (R-FL) is leading his Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy by nine points, according to a new FLDemocracy/WPTV/ TCPalm poll released Thursday.

Among likely voters surveyed, 51 percent support West and 42 percent back Murphy. Eight percent are undecided.

The same poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling (PPP), found Mitt Romney leading President Barack Obama in District 18 by a 50 percent to 45 percent margin.

The battle for the 18 th congressional district, which includes Martin, St. Lucie and northern Palm Beach counties, is one of the closest watched races in the country. The race has been characterized by a flood of advertising--most of which is coming from West who has outspent his Democratic challenger by 4-1.

In late September, West released a blistering attack ad featuring a mug shot of Murphy from a bar fight he got into when he was 19-years-old.

The Republican Party of Florida recently sent out a mailer embezzled with a photo of a burning American flag, accusing Murphy of being “backed by groups that are opposed to the defense of Israel.” Last week, West’s campaign put out a mailer of Murphy next to painting of Mao Zedong .
In a sign that West’s ads are paying off, Murphy’s favorability numbers are significantly underwater in the PPP survey. Only 34 percent of likely voters view Murphy favorably and 47 percent view him unfavorably. On the other hand, 49 percent of those polled have a favorable opinion of West, to 41 percent unfavorable.

“Negative advertising seems to have taken more of a toll on Patrick Murphy then on Allen West,” said Jim Williams, a polling analyst at Public Policy Polling.

Asked about the flood of negative ads in the race, 31 percent said the spots have made them more likely to vote for West, while 27 percent said they have made them more likely to back Murphy.
“West owes his overall 9-point lead to a 52-34 advantage among independent voters. He also earns more support from Republicans than Murphy does from Democrats,” said Williams.

    1. Mr. Lantry....can you please provide me your definition of "good" ? Is "good" like West using KY on us when he screws us in the backside as opposed to going dry ?

      What is "good" Lantry ?

  2. West is good ? I guess a former USA commissioned officer, who swore an oath to defend the Constitution and then thumbs his nose at it, is "good". West is one of many Congressman who voted for the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012. Section 1021 of that bill destroying one's rights under the 4th and 5th Amendments.

What the hell is wrong with you people ? Why are you always willing to "turn the other cheek" to scoundrels like former military commissioned officers in Congress like the traitorous USN John McCain and his pal USN John Kerry and USA Allen West ?

Can someone explain to me why these congressional scumbags screw us in the ass without even the courtesy of a reach-around, and you "patriots" continue supporting these bastards ? Oh....and please refrain from that "lesser of two evils" crap. Scum is scum.

  3. For the record....I don't support the state of Israel under any circumstance. The POS West using defense of Israel as a campaign tactic is traitorous. Israel is NOT the 51st state ! Why isn't West calling for the defense of our southern border ? Why is West calling for US tqxpayer support for the American murdering Israelis ? USS Liberty....8 JUN 67. 34 KIA, 172 wounded and an American vessel so shot up by West's beloved Israelis it had to be scrapped.

West a "keeper" ? My G-d Brock, WHY ? ? ? Keep West the hell out of public office.

    Screw Israel AND Allen West.

It's a bitter, dirty campaign down there and both sides say they are ahead, but the latest dated poll shows West up.

  4. Well Dan III, I appreciate your telling me something that I didn't know. That being that West voted for the NDAA 2012. Being in Florida where so many of us are "represented" by the likes of Bill Nelson or Alan Grayson and people like Bob Graham and Charlie Crist are considered respectable, almost anything is good by comparison.

Specifically, what I like about West is he is not afraid to say that our government is full of communists. Everybody knows it but I haven't heard anybody else that has a shot at the office for which they are running say so. I am sick of our modern society where truth isn't allowed because it might be inconvenient or hurt somebody's feelings.

I'm not a huge fan of support for Israel but I wouldn't abandon them either. I would like to see us using our own oil so we could just tell the whole middle east to go F--- themselves. That ain't gonna happen because there's too many deranged tree huggers and people that have been raised and educated to hate their own country in our population today. Obama is intent on putting the muslim brotherhood in charge of every middle eastern country that hasn't been openly hostile to us. Egypt builds their own Abrams tanks and now they are run by a bunch that is hostile to us. He's given the various "rebel" groups thousands of tons of weapons and they are the same people that live mainly to hate us. He's supported them militarily and put them in charge of countries that haven't given us trouble in decades. Its an insane policy that can't lead to anything good for us. Mr. West is openly critical of Obama's middle east policy and I like that. I've never understood why Israel attacked the Liberty or why we did nothing about it. I thought it was a disgrace to us when they did it and I'm still disgusted that that the men involved and their families will never get any answers out of our government. It was also 45 years ago. I can't do any more about that than I can do to hold the Northern States responsible for what Lincoln did to the Constitution and the Confederacy.

I say all that to answer your question why I called West "good." That's not exactly the way you asked it but I don't have a personal definition of "good." If I did it would be something like "not a communist and doesn't hate the USA." I don't believe that McCain or Kerry would pass that definition. Kerry because he's a communist in everything but name and McCain because his claim to fame is "crossing the aisle to work with the other side." That's all Benedict Arnold was doing when he weakened the defenses at Ft. Ticonderoga and tried to get the plans to the British and it was traitorous then so its still traitorous.

That being said, West's voting for the NDAA changes my opinion. I hate to hear it but I'm glad you said something.

    1. Mr. Lantry....I'm just fed up with politicians at all levels, screwing us. One should look at the consequences of their actions.

West, or any of these scoundrels, can SAY whatever they want. But LOOK at their ACTIONS. "Actions speak louder than words", remember that axiom ?

Thank you for your reply to me. I appreciate it.

  5. Mr. Lantry....re: the Liberty incident. It is HISTORY. 45 minutes, 45 days, 45 years or 450 years ago....learn from it. Don't dismiss an event and it's importance due to its age. Should we scuttle the United States Constitution with the argument it is 250 years old ? Of course Ruth Baeder Ginsburg has along with congress. But please don't make argument that time erases relevance. It does not.
