HSLDA: Legal Assistant Job Opening

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Home School Legal Defense Association is now accepting resumes for a Legal Assistant position that will soon be available. The chosen candidate will begin work on or around the beginning of June.

Essential duties for this position include:

  • Research and analyze law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes, and prepares and updates written summaries accordingly.
  • Act as initial point of contact for member queries and requests for legal assistance; gather relevant facts from members and provides assistance and advice based on applicable laws, regulations, legal precedent and office policy.
  • Find and monitor new legislation of interest in multiple active legislatures, contacting sponsors, committee members, and state leaders to ensure accurate assessment of legislative status; uses Drupal web content management platform and composes written alerts to update members as necessary.
  • Perform other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, transcribing dictation, preparing routine correspondence, and reading and routing incoming mail.
  • Act as law librarian, keeping and monitoring legal volumes and ensuring legal volumes are up-to-date.
  • File correspondence and legal documents in office filing system, both in written and electronic format.

The applying candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; One year or more of law school; or paralegal or legal assistant training or experience.
