WWII food stash found

"The Fed thinks they are playing with a thermostat - the house is too cool so we dial it up a little bit, now it's too warm, so we dial it down. In reality, they are playing with a nuclear reactor. If you get it wrong, you're going to have a meltdown."

"From what I can tell from the somewhat garbled [automated] translation, it seems that a chunk of old masonry fell from the second floor of a building on the grounds of a hospital in Germany. When the blocks fell they revealed an attic storage room that had been sealed up for decades. The room had apparently been used to store field mess supplies during the US occupation of Germany, shortly after WWII. Some of the cans look to be in bad shape, but others are surprisingly clean."

by Mario Rizzo

This will be a short post. Nearby is a Venn diagram showing the intersection between Goldman Sachs and the federal government: people who before or after were attached to both.

This is one reason that the current political-economic system will continue to fail. Those who exercise positions of political influence are not about the let particular so-called private institutions go under (there have been exceptions, of course). The idea is that they will use the ill-defined systemic-risk notions to preserve the status-quo. This is why I floated, two years ago, the idea that perhaps the government must break up the large financial institutions so that they can fail without dragging us all (particularly me) down with them. My positive program for laissez-faire, so to speak.

A picture is worth a thousand words!

Let Americans rise up against Americans

The United States Supreme Court is ready to start a second American Civil War, only this time, the war is not between the states, but between the federal government and the states. It is more like a second revolution.

As of today, December 12, 2011, we are told that the judiciary branch of our federal government, the highest court in the land, will decide whether a state has the right to protect itself from foreign invasion. The Arizona state law (which basically only enforces what is already federal law) was passed in 2010, and Enemy Barry immediately challenged it. Barry’s boy, the beleaguered Eric Holder, filed suit against an American state for attempting to defend it self!

This is where we are. The federal government is clearly against the people. It was never so pronounced, never so aggressive, and never so obvious. The cause is not to preserve the Union, but to destroy the nation. The cause is not to protect the U.S. Constitution, but to gut it, completely.

Romney and Gingrich are both very weak on immigration. “Newt Romney,” as Michele Bachmann refers to them simultaneously, are basically liberal. No question about that, really. Rick Perry said he could have the border closed within a year, if elected. That’s quite a proposal. Ron Paul is quite strong against illegal immigration. Among other positions, he proposes to end “birthright citizenship.”

Dinner with terror ringleaders: $2,500

For the low, low price of $2,500, one lucky bidder and five friends are set to have dinner cooked for them by Weather Underground leaders Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn. The auction was hosted by the Illinois Humanities Council (IHC), a non-profit founded — and still funded — by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Bidders were invited to “[e]njoy an unforgettable and scintillating dinner for a party of six cooked by veteran activists and educators Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.

“Fascinating conversation over a meal,” the auction promised, “is the agenda for this special evening.”

The National Endowment for the Humanities, the Powerline blog reports, “provides almost all the funding for the IHC.”

A new GOP foreign policy

Vox Popoli
Verbatim Post

A VP reader who writes at Policymic recommends the GOP adopt Ron Paul's foreign policy:
Republicans love to wax poetic about America's founding documents. Read anything by popular conservative pundits to get up to speed on how our precious Constitution has been shredded by liberals and why America desperately needs to return to the principles contained therein.

The major Republican presidential contenders all share that view as well. Newt Gingrich's website, for example, tells readers that religious liberty and life are unalienable rights “contained in the Declaration of Independence.” Mitt Romney has similarly ripped on “advocates of “secularism” for taking the idea of separation of church and state “...well beyond its original meaning.”

The problem, however, is that Republicans don't endorse their own back to basics argument when it comes to foreign policy. Conservatives, historically speaking, don't a endorse the idea that America is the world's police force, and for the sake of consistency and the good of the country, today's Republicans need to abandoned this interventionist mindset.

This may sound like a strange argument if you don't know your history, so let's briefly put it context. The idea that America should cross the globe solving every nation's problems is a progressive one. And it makes sense when you think about it. The left generally accepts that the government ought to have a very active role in society, alleviating poverty, ensuring a level playing field or the little guy, and so on. So why wouldn't the same be true of foreign policy as well?
It's all quite true. Unfortunately, it's all quite irrelevant. The observable fact of the matter is that most Republicans, including many who call themselves conservatives, are now progressives on the foreign policy front. There is literally nothing conservative about the Republican Party's mainstream anymore, and they are at their most left-wing and pro-government intervention with regards to foreign policy.

What they should do and what they can reasonably be expected to do are two completely different things. Which is why they are so often called, quite correctly, the Stupid Party.

Urgent—Calls Needed To Oppose Federal Mandatory Reporting Bill

Tomorrow, the U.S. Senate’s Subcommittee on Children and Families will hold a hearing on S. 1877, a bill that will require all adults to be mandatory reporters of child abuse and neglect. This bill will create a police-state reporting environment that will lead to baseless investigations of innocent families, and actually hurt at-risk children. HSLDA opposes this legislation for numerous reasons which you can read here.

Urgent calls are needed to the senators on the Subcommittee on Children and Families to oppose S. 1877. If either of your two U.S. senators are on the subcommittee, HSLDA urges you to call with some or all of the following message (there is no need to identify yourself as a homeschooler):

“I am concerned that S. 1877, which is scheduled for a committee hearing this Tuesday, will lead to privacy violations and allegations of abuse and neglect against innocent families because of the mandatory reporting requirement for all adults. Additionally, S. 1877 will greatly increase the federal government’s role in social services investigations, cluttering the system, and making it hard to find children who are truly at risk.”

You may identify and contact your two U.S. senators using HSLDA’s Legislative Toolbox.

Please note that it is not necessary to call your senators if they are not on the list above; however, it will not hurt to send them an email or letter sharing your concerns about S. 1877.

Background

Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey and California Senator Barbara Boxer introduced S. 1877: “Speak Up to Protect Every Abused Kid Act” in response to the tragic occurrences at Penn State University. Unfortunately, S. 1877 will lead to greater federal involvement in social services investigations, which we believe will hurt innocent families and make it even harder for social services agencies to find and help truly at-risk children. Additionally, the federal requirement that every single American adult act as a mandatory reporter will create a police-state environment of reporting on friends, family, and neighbors.

We encourage you to read our detailed review of S. 1877 available here and then forward this e-lert to your friends and family and have them also call their U.S. senators if they serve on the Subcommittee on Children and Families.

Thank you for standing with us for liberty. It is only through your action that we will be able to continue to protect the right of innocent parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children without the fear of baseless investigations into their children and family.

Very truly yours,

J. Michael Smith, Esq.
President, HSLDA.

Occupy Movement Attempts to Shut Down Ports Union leadership less than thrilled.

Today is a big day for the Occupy movement, as it attempts to reproduce the “success” of Occupy Oakland at shutting down the Port of Oakland in November. This time they’re trying to shut down almost every major port on the West Coast, including another run at Oakland, as CNN reports:

Protesters affiliated with the nationwide "Occupy" movement hope to shut down West Coast ports from San Diego to Alaska on Monday in an effort to "disrupt the economic machine that benefits the wealthiest individuals and corporations," according to organizers.

Ports in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Oakland, California; Portland, Oregon; Seattle and Tacoma, Washington, Vancouver, British Columbia and Anchorage, Alaska, are targets of the effort, according to the Occupy the Ports website.

Protesters are also planning to demonstrate at the port in Houston, while Salt Lake City demonstrators are also organizing to disrupt operations of a Walmart distribution facility.

Efforts are scheduled to begin at 5:30 a.m. PT, with a march to the Port of Oakland.

What about all the working people who depend on those ports for their livelihood, not to mention all the other industries connected to the ports, and the sea of consumers awaiting the goods that should be passing between ship and shore? This dopey “action” is one of the best illustrations of the dangerous ignorance and selfishness at the core of the Occupy movement, as well as their rather tenuous grasp of the concept of “free speech,” which they interpret as the right to force other people to listen to them.

Here’s how the Occupy masterminds justify their port shutdown scheme:

PHOTOS: A Rare Glimpse Into Daily Life In The Capital Of North Korea

Where are the people?

North Korea is one of the most secretive countries in the world.

Most images of life in this state that are released in the mainstream media display military exercises and grandiose parades.

British photographer Charlie Crane traveled to Pyongyang, the capital city, and obtained permission to photograph daily life in North Korea.

Despite being chaperoned by a guide, Crane was allowed to photograph passers-by during their daily routine -- a rare glimpse into the lives of ordinary North Koreans.

Crane says that the people living in this reclusive country are especially proud of the machinery manufactured in the state (watch out for the photo of a woman posing in front of a digger), and their buildings (the guide was especially excited about the shopping centers and sports arenas Crane photographed.)

Mr. Bowen

Rich's post Lost Traditions made me think of Mr. Bowen.

My neighbor across the road, Mr. Bowen, was in his seventies when he found me crying at his fence behind his house after the older boys had left me in their dust, and he became my best friend until he died. I don't remember how old I was, but probably about six. I loved going to visit him, where he would always give me my choice of a piece of candy, and then regale me with stories of the Confederacy, as he spit into his spittoon.

He would tie chickens on his clothes line by their legs, and then go down the row slitting their necks with his handy Barlow knife, as he chawed' on a plug of Brown Mule, which was my Christmas present to him each year. One year my mother asked if I didn't want to get him something different, and I was dumbfounded, as I told her, but that's what he likes! Every time my mother would bake loaves of bread, I would take one to him steaming hot. There isn't much better than this smothered in butter. He taught me how to make my first slingshot among many, many other things. I really miss him.

The Battle of Fredericksburg

Greek

HERE

========

On 12 December 1862 came the Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia where Union General Ambrose Burnside smashed regiment after regiment against entrenched Confederates behind stone walls atop Marye's heights. Burnside took 12,653 casualties to Lee's 5,377, and shortly had to look for a new job. The battle lasted from 11 December to 15 December, and was probably the most lopsided engagement of the war. The battle was a tragic monument to what one dedicated man can do with stupidity AND professional military training.

Could 2012 be America’s Last Presidential Election?

Godfather Politics
Verbatim Post

obama_hitler_lenin

I’ve asked this question to a number of people and most them respond as if I were crazy for asking. They tell me that this is America, land of the free and that there will always be elections. I tell them that we are no longer the land of the free and that if Obama gets re-elected in 2012, that this just may be America’s last election.

In the past three years, the Obama administration has been very carefully crafting the nation for a political take over by his Marxist regime and this isn’t just my opinion.

Popular radio talk show host Michael Savage is the son of Russian immigrants and is very familiar with Soviet and European history. Savage warned his listeners this week saying,

“I have to tell you that if this man, God forbid, is the next president of the United States, we’re going to be living in something along the lines of – people say Europe. I don’t believe it’s going to be like Europe – I think it will be closer to Chavez’s South American dictatorship.

“This is the most corrupt, incompetent, dangerous tyrannical administration in American history. It’s not politics as usual. It’s not just Democrats versus Republicans. Obama has a long history of being at odds with American values and with America itself and the core principles of this country. They don’t want government-sponsored opinions. They only want government-sponsored ‘Pravda.’ That’s exactly what the government-media complex tells you on a daily basis – nothing but the government-media complex party line. Pay attention. Your freedom may be at stake.”

Over the weekend, Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum told a small group of people in an Iowa coffee house that,

“Barack Obama is not incompetent, ladies and gentleman. He knows exactly what he’s doing and why he’s doing it. He sees America differently than you see America.

[Obama] has gone out of his way to divide this country in a way I haven’t seen since the Great Depression when Franklin Roosevelt went around to divide his country. That’s his hero. What makes America great [in Obama’s mind is that] the government takes money from somebody and gives it to somebody else. No, that’s what makes America, France.”

With his control over the Executive and Judicial branches of the government, the stage is set for a complete takeover of the government. Think about it.

Since taking office, instead of helping the economy, Obama has purposely escalated the economic crisis by plunging the country into unprecedented debt. He has a number of programs that are designed to go into effect in January 2013, just in time for his second term of office. The economic burden and increased taxes on everyone will be enough to cause the final economic collapse of the country. As soon as that happens, Obama declares Martial Law and assumes dictatorial control of the nation.

The Department of Justice has already been subverting federal laws to strip us of a number of freedoms. The Supreme Court and many of the other federal courts have been seeded with socialistic liberal judges that will rule in Obama’s favor on virtually anything, thus ending constitutional rule and law.

He’s already changing the face of America’s military. Allowing homosexuals to openly serve along with changing the retirement program is causing many conservative military leaders to resign commissions and leave the military. Some Pentagon officials are also noting that an increase in the enlistment of radical Muslims into the US military where they get all the training they need on weapons and defense systems. We have no idea how many of them there are in the armed forces or in what positions they may hold.

Obama has been wielding executive powers this past year as if he were already a dictator. When Congress is not doing his bidding, he simply bypasses them and used an executive order to accomplish it anyway. This has set the stage for his disbandment of Congress. He would not be the first world leader to take control of a nation and disband the legislative branch of government.

He has been effectively using the media to anesthetize the public to the dangers he poses. Like a patient being prepped for surgery, people are numb to the changes and won’t have a clue what took place until they wake up in recovery and realize that free America has been removed and replaced with a regime that may parallel those of Stalin, Lenin, Mussolini, Hitler, Chavez and Castro.

For the sake of our children and grandchildren, I earnestly pray that we are spared from what seems a certain future and that Obama is overwhelmingly defeated in 2012. Otherwise, heaven help us.

Ron Paul has a responsibility to stop the madness of Newt Romney

Via The California Tree of Liberty

Republicans can only expect to win in November if Ron Paul is willing to sit out and permit the Republican Party to destroy the nation he loves. Given that Rep. Paul is a man who places principle well ahead of party, this is not a safe assumption, especially in the likely event that the next stage in the economic crisis of which Paul has been warning Americans for decades begins to unfold in the first part of the year.

Frozen beer helped man trapped in snow drift for 3 days survive

Clifton Vial, 52, climbed into the cab of his Toyota Tacoma Monday night in Nome to see how far a road winding to the north would take him.

More than 40 miles out of town, at about 9:30 that night, he found out. As Pink Floyd's "Echoes" played on the stereo and temperature dipped well below zero in the darkness, Vial's pickup plunged into a snowdrift.

"I made an attempt at digging myself out and realized how badly I was stuck," said Vial. He was wearing tennis shoes, jeans and a $30 jacket from Sears. "I would have been frostbit before I ever got the thing out of there."

Vial found himself alone near Salmon Lake, on a road that doubles as a snowmachine trail in the winter and stretches inland from the Bering Sea city. Far beyond the reach of his cellphone, Vial slipped into a fleece sleeping bag liner and wrapped a bath towel around his feet. He occasionally started the truck to run the heater and listen to the radio.

Was anybody talking about him? Did they know he was missing?

By the third day, Vial said, the truck was nearly out of gas.

North Korea: South Korea's Christmas tree a "form of psychological warfare"

Couldn't make this stuff up.:)

South Korea will allow Christians to light two more Christmas tree-shaped towers near the tense border with North Korea despite strong opposition from Pyongyang, an official said Sunday.

The South Korean government allowed a Christian group to light a massive steel Christmas tree near the border last year for the first time in seven years as tensions flared in the wake of two deadly attacks blamed on the North.

That tree will be lit again this month, while South Korea has also decided to allow other Christian groups to light two other front-line Christmas trees, a Defense Ministry official said.

The decision is meant to help guarantee freedom of expression and religion, the official said on condition of anonymity, citing office policy.

Earlier on Sunday, North Korea's state-run Uriminzokkiri website said that lighting the first tree was a form of psychological warfare and would trigger an "unexpected consequence."

Remember who we’re fighting

Barack Obama has never had a limited view of his importance to America. This is a man who wrote two - two - books about himself before he ever held a real job. His nomination made his wife finally feel pride in her country. On the last night of the primary season in 2008, this humble man proclaimed, “This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”

So it should come as no surprise that President Obamafeels that America’s institutions, developed over 200-plus years, are inadequate to give most Americans a “fair chance” in life. In a major speech in a Kansas high school, Mr. Obama told us too many Americans no longer can become part of the middle class, whether or not they play by the rules. He blames not himself, of course, but large corporations and wealthy interests, many of which also contribute to his campaign. America has pioneered democracy, the rule of law, free-market economics and the Bill of Rights, but Mr. Obama thinks it’s our system that denies most Americans a “fair chance” to succeed.

A better answer is that the blame for our terrible economy and lack of upward mobility lies directly at the feet of the Obama administration. For two years, a pliant Democratic Congress enacted virtually his entire agenda. He got his stimulus bill, which didn’t create any permanent jobs. He got Obamacare, which threatens to explode the deficit and ration health care. His financial “reform” bill gives government bureaucrats more control over our financial system without touching the real culprits of the mortgage crisis, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. If Americans are having trouble attaining the American dream, it’s less because of our country’s shortcomings and more because of Mr. Obama’s awful economic policies.

SNL Skewers Al Sharpton and His MSNBC Show

Saturday Night Live mocked Al Sharpton and his “Politics Nation” MSNBC show, with cast member Keenan Thompson channeling several of Sharpton’s more outrageous moments and his verbose — and not altogether accurate — speaking style.

“President Obama has been pushing this payroll tax hollaback — excuse me, tax holiday!” Sharpton said. “Which has been helping middle class folks up and down America and these Republicans now talking about how it’s bad for this and that and the other. Here’s my question — do these people have rocks in their heads?”

Taking on Sharpton’s most recent MSNBC ad, he later asked whether Republicans are Nazis — blueberry pie-stealing Nazis.

“When I was little, we were playing catch the Nazi in the backyard,” he said. “We put a blueberry pie in a box and the Nazi would come around and try to get it. Isn’t that what the Republicans are trying to do, steal our pie?…Are Republicans Nazis trying to blueberrry steal pie out the box?”

The skit ended with another Sharptonism — the host’s infamous teleprompter flub over the summer, which Thompson repeated nearly word-for-word.
