Police Misconduct NewsFeed Weekend Recap 10-01-11 to 10-02-11

VERBATIM POST

Injustice Everywhere

==============================

  • our latest reader’s poll concerns the latest New York NY police confrontation with the #occupyWallStreet protesters where the protesters claim police lured them onto the Brooklyn Bridge where they were then boxed in and subjected to a mass arrest where, apparently, at least one journalist was rounded up along with the protesters. However, the NYPD then released a video on YouTube showing an officer apparently give the protesters a warning before they proceeded onto the bridge. Since this one is controversial, I decided it was best to let you, the readers, let me know what you think about it. [3] http://t.co/Byt3UO2B
  • In Miami Beach FL, details have emerged about an apparent cover up attempt on behalf of a cop who was allegedly drunk when he crashed into another car then fled the scene. However, he wasn’t arrested and a trooper who investigated the case and found that the department was covering for the officer was then apparently targeted by the police chief for retaliation. • Sault Ste. Marie ON police appear to have attempted to cover up for one of their constables when he rear-ended a motorist at an intersection while on duty. The accounts indicate that police acted as if they were more concerned with covering up for their officer than they were about the condition of the people he injured at the scene. Furthermore, it appears as though they tried to make the guy feel like he was going to be charged in subsequent interviews until he got his local councilmen involved. [3] http://t.co/g6DunRyC
  • Sanford FL cop suspended while subject of state investigation on allegations he took money during a traffic stop, hard to say whether this was extortion or bribery, but generally people who bribe officers don’t come back to file a complaint about it, if that’s how police found out. • California police departments are apparently ignoring a toothless law requiring agencies to report police chases & fatalities associated with police pursuits, even when the victims are one of their own. [3] http://t.co/a8QLVVIy
  • 11 Mississippi state troopers have been demoted & 3 resigned after admitting to cheating on promotional exams [0] http://t.co/MhnSYhNl
  • Palm Beach FL police sgt demoted & suspended 160hrs for working on his dating website while he was on duty, apparently 80 hours worth of work in fact. [0] http://t.co/fSD0cdml
