Hardcore

I spend most of my time writing these posts trying not to say what needs to be said. I word it cleverly to stay on the right side of the law and propriety. I avoid calling for any sort of action to be taken as that is a violation of the First Amendment protections against free speech, it goes a bit too far, you see. But, I am growing weary of playing a lop-sided game. I am growing weary of police who strut about with guns on their hips, badges on their chests and malice in their hearts.

Don't get me wrong, as far as policemen are concerned, I believe that most of them are honorably doing their jobs to protect us from criminals. They have families and a legitimate concern for the society in which they live. Yet, where are these men and women when the "bad" cops do their business? Where are the responsible cops when the Pima County SWAT shoots the crap out of a veteran? Are they quiet because they are also guilty of rigging evidence, of lying under oath, of fraudulently filling out warrants, of lying on their resumes? Let the first honest cop point the finger at the rest. Or, are there any left? And, if not, then what the hell is there to wait for?

Gov. Scott Signs Welfare Drug Testing Into Law

Republicans said the measure was needed because if taxpayers are screened at their place of employment, so should welfare recipients. The drug testing bill was a priority for Scott.

“While there are certainly legitimate needs for public assistance, it is unfair for Florida taxpayers to subsidize drug addiction,” Governor Scott said. “This new law will encourage personal accountability and will help to prevent the misuse of tax dollars.”

Breaking: Kloppenburg concedes

Go to fullsize image
Ding dong, the witch, gives up.

JoAnn Kloppenburg finally conceded the Wisconsin Supreme Court race this morning, announcing that she had called incumbent Justice David Prosser to congratulate him on his win. She had until today to file a challenge to the recount, which gained her 312 votes but still left her slightly over 7,000 votes behind Prosser in the hotly-contested election........

........The recount had insufficient common-sense basis, and Kloppenburg didn’t hesitate to spend taxpayer money on a fruitless attempt to reverse a 7316-vote deficit. Maybe it would serve no purpose because Kloppenburg would foot the bill in an election challenge — and because she might want to run for office again in a state that would get pretty angry over a nonsensical challenge to a 7000-vote margin loss.

Deputy's slaying sparks new worry

Verbatim post

Vox Popoli

I am not at all surprised that the police are now being targeted for murder due to nothing more than their membership in the Badge Gang. And there isn't a soul in the country who can reasonably argue that the police haven't collectively begged for such targeting, considering how many innocent Americans they have killed with shameless impunity in the last two decades.
Bexar County Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz said the seemingly senseless and coldblooded slaying of a sergeant early Saturday on the East Side has sent a chilling statement to local law enforcement: No one is safe.

“The way it happened sends a message to the law enforcement community that we're not safe, even responding to calls and helping citizens,” Ortiz said Sunday. “Officers sometimes get hurt responding to domestic violence calls or shootings, but not while they're stopped at a red light.”

Sgt. Kenneth Vann, 48, was en route to a call for a shooting around 2 a.m. Saturday when a small white car pulled up next to his marked patrol car at a red light at Loop 410 and Rigsby Avenue, officials said. A barrage of shots was fired from the white car, likely from a high-caliber semiautomatic weapon, striking the passenger-side windows of Vann's patrol car and killing him, officials said.
Now this is the interesting part. A retired police lieutenant said in the article that the ambush-style killing "is part of a two-year national trend....Every officer in Texas and the U.S. knows there's a guy who could pull up next to them and kill them. How do you stop that sudden assault?”

You don't. You can't. And if you think the police are worried now, just wait until a) they start being gunned down when they leave their homes in the morning and b) their families start being targeted.

There is only one way the police can stop this and it is to immediately stop the militarization, shut down the SWAT units, end the no-knock raids, and return to keeping the peace rather than swaggering around as law enforcement officers. Because what is happening is what always happens when the balance of power is tipped too far. If the rules are stacked against you, you stop playing by the rules.

Of course, getting rid of more than 10 million illegal aliens and ending immigration from south of the border would also be a significant help. But that's not going to happen either.

Here's an interesting comment from a retired cop at Denninger's place: "I am a former police officer from a high crime town in the Chicago area and have witnessed the changes to police tactics first hand. 20 years ago when I worked patrol we showed up with shoes and leather polished, said Sir when pulling someone over, stopped and talked to the residents and children and tried to de-escalate situations whenever possible to avoid confrontation. Now??? Military style uniforms, AR15's, Taser's and the general thinking that that badge gives them additional rights. Act like you are at war and you will be, guaranteed.... Its a shame that I can't teach my grandson that the police are there to help, because I no longer believe that myself."

Contrast with this the march protesting the police murder of Marine Jose Guerena.

A group called Oath Keepers organized a march and protest for Jose Guerena. Guerena was killed by a Pima County SWAT team on May 5th. They entered his home with a search warrant, but deputies said when they went in, Guerena aimed an assault rifle at them. They fired 71 rounds and killed him. More than a hundred people took part in the march, some of which came from as far away as Vegas. The people said they were there for a number of reasons: pay tribute to a fallen marine, support the victim's family, and protest the tactics of the SWAT team.

Some protest, some shoot. If the police don't abandon their present path of violence and start prosecuting police killers instead of protecting them, they can expect more of the latter and less of the former.

A comment on An Especially Sad Memorial Day

Today I remember :

Best friend:

SFC Mitchell A. Lane – United States Army (1987-2003)

Special Operations Engineer, sniper, & SF Combat Diver with ODA-365, Company C, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group

Died 29 August 2003 at Deh Chopan, Zabul Province, Afghanistan

Buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Section 60, Site 7889

At the very end of his second tour in Afghanistan he died during a night time combat assault while fast roping into a known enemy cave complex.

He was an outstanding soldier who had completed numerous courses including the Basic Combat Engineer's Course, Basic Airborne Course, Special Forces Qualification Course (18C), Special Forces Combat Diver Course, French De-Mining Course, Water Infiltration Course (WIC), Special Forces Advanced Urban Combat Course (SFAUC), & Special Forces Target Interdiction Course (SOTIC). He was slated to attend the Special Forces Warrant Officer Candidate Course when he returned to the states. He left behind a wife and two daughters.

(P.S. I have been told that he is forever memorialized in the Special Forces Museum at Ft. Bragg for some type of a quick fuse that he developed on the battlefield in Afghanistan and that there is a display with a mannequin of him wearing his uniform there that looks just like him. If you ever get over to Fayetteville I would love a picture of the display.) I shall. It's been a few years since we've been there.

(Please obscure the faces of the other operators as they are still serving over there and I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize them. Redleg)

Eight years later, just amazing. BT

Great uncle:

PFC. Harold Werner – United States Army National Guard (1942-1944)

Infantryman with Company M, 3rd Battalion, 142nd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division

Killed in action 11 June 1944 at hill 233 in the vicinity of Capalbio, Italy

Buried at Florence American Cemetery and Memorial, Plot B, Row 7, Grave 33

He landed on Red Beach at 0345 hours 9 September 1943 (Operation Avalanche). He fought up the Italian peninsula and was involved in actions at innumerable unnamed hills, the push up through the Liri Valley at Mount Maggiore, Mount Lungo, Mount Sammucro, Mount Difensa, San Pietro, & Cassino. He was involved in the breakout from the Anzio beachhead where his regiment found and exploited a gap in the German lines which ended months of stalemate and finally led to the advance on and capture of Rome. During the pursuit of German forces from Rome, on 11 June 1944 Company M (heavy weapons company) and Headquarters Company were counterattacked by a large German force. Their position was overrun with 33 missing or killed. I have been unable to determine total casualties from this engagement. After some of the fiercest combat and amid the most grueling conditions encountered in the European theater of operations, my young uncle met his end alone leaving no one to carry on his name. His division was pulled out of the lines and eventually out of Italy 2 weeks later

1LT Lowell C. Lutton – United States Army Air Force (1941-1943)

P-38 Lightning Pilot with the 431st Fighter Squadron, 475th Fighter Group

Missing in Action 2 November 1943 returning from mission against Rabaul, New Britain

Memorialized at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Tablets of the Missing

After transfer from the 49th Fighter Group's 8th Fighter Squadron He started flying long range combat missions starting in July of 1943 and his previous experience served him well, he claimed three Japanese aircraft in three days during mid-August. On the 16th he fought Nakajima Ki-43 Oscars over Marilinan, New Guinea, and shot down one of 12 claimed in the squadron's first combat. Two days later the 431st reported another dozen victories, and he bagged a pair of Oscars near Wewak. Beginning in October, the Fifth Air Force launched a series of strikes against the Japanese naval air complex at Rabaul, New Britain. The 431st was engaged near the target on 23 October, and he claimed a Mitsubishi A6M Zeke. Back again on 2 November, he was seen to shoot down another Zeke but failed to return to base. It was assumed that he ran out of fuel and crashed. He married shortly before heading overseas and never had any children.

...... that was a good piece Brock. Having grown up among a long line of military men with over 15 years of service myself it definitely appears today that we are a dying breed, an anachronism in our own time. It appears that there is no longer any place for those of us who still hold on to ideals hammered into us during our years of service…ideals such as loyalty, duty, respect, selfless-service, honor, integrity, personal courage or the 5 Cs of an NCO (courage, candor, competence, commitment, and character).

Inversely, it appears that those of us who still cling to those military ideals are reviled and told that such antiquated concepts no longer apply, pertain or even matter. The only thing that seems to matter these days is how many lies can I tell and how many people can I step on to achieve my goals and to attain everything that I am entitled to.

I weep for the country that my children and grandchildren have inherited from me. I have brought them up to believe as I do. Have I done them a disservice in instilling such ideals and morality in them when our world has grown so obviously corrupt and contemptible?

"Peace was not won for us by campus activists with kerchiefs shrieking into megaphones or bearded thinkers pontificating smugly about utopia. They have always been its greatest obstacles. For it is not some noble and glorious state. It is the absence of war. And war is only absent in the face of war. Our homes are not kept safe by the books in them, but by the weapons borne in their defense. So too no nation is kept safe from intruders by its libraries, but by its soldiers. Great libraries make great soldiers. But a library without soldiers ends up as the Great Library of Alexandria did when the Muslim horde arrived to claim it. As a pile of ashes."

Surprise! Congress is trading on inside information

View Image

That insider trading in Washignton occurs with a greater frequency than at Galleon is no secret. Courtesy of various loopholes, members of both the House and Senate have long been allowed to trade on inside information, something that grabbed the media's attention when back in November 2005 someone, somewhere sent the stock of USG Corp., W.R. Grace & Co., and Crown Holdings higher even though there was no public information. Only later would it become known that then-Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist would deliver a speech announcing new legislation to relieve companies of asbestos litigation. Subsequent studies (such as Ziobrowski et al's 2004 paper “Abnormal Returns from the Common Stock Investments of the United States Senate.”) confirmed substantial market outperformance by members of Senate. A few days ago, Ziobrowski et al, have released a follow up study "Abnormal Returns From the Common Stock Investments of Members of the U.S. House of Representatives" which confirms that not only do congressional critters consistently outperform the market, but does a granular analysis of just who it is in congress that should consider leaving the public arena, and raising capital to start their own hedge fund: simply said, junior, democratic congressmen beat the market by roughly the same amount, with the same consistency (and probably with the same Sharpe ratio) that allows SAC to charge 3% and 35%.

In a nutshell, the latest stereotype is that if one is a junior democrat in Congress, and one trades for their own discretionary account, one most likely is doing so using insider information.

Memorial Day: We Honor Warriors While Surrendering Our Civilization

View Image

If you live in the Western World, the debt you owe to brave men who died fighting for our principles is huge. Their sacrifice in armed conflict allowed enterprise and self rule to flourish, lifting the lives of billions of people toward a hopeful future. We speak proudly of our fallen heroes -- as well we should -- honoring those who gave their lives for our freedom.

But what have the citizens of the West done with that most precious gift, one so often described as a debt that can't be repaid? The very civilizations saved by the heroics of our warriors have surrendered -- to a statist tyranny of enormous size. Our citizens will soon know the true cost of our failed vigilance, as we pay for the gigantic theft by our sovereign leaders, with a debt-fueled collapse that will most likely be chaotic.

Theft too strong a word? Not really. You see, every penny, yen, or euro a government spends (or promises to spend) it simply doesn't have. Governments must get the money they spend -- from us, the citizens. When governments believe they won't get permission from the citizens to take their money (by taxing them one and all), governments steal it -- in the West by currency inflation, or by borrowing the money from future taxpayers. The tyranny of such obligations appears soft and manageable at first, but make no mistake: years of deceitful promises and spending of borrowed money add up to a theft of staggering proportions.

Examine the size of the Western world's obligations

“Although Victorious, the 26th North Carolina Was Virtually Destroyed”

“All the men were up at once and ready, every officer at his post, Col. [Henry] Burgwyn in the centre, Lieut. Col. [John R.] Lane on the right, Major [John T.] Jones on the left. At the command “Forward March!,” all to a man stepped off, apparently as willing and as proudly as if they were on review. The enemy at once opened fire, killing and wounding some…The enemy’s artillery on our right got an enfilade fire. Our loss was frightful. But our men crossed [Willoughby’s Run] in good order and immediately were in proper position again, and up the hill we went firing now with better execution.” (John R. Lane, Address at Gettysburg, 1905)

“Their advance was not checked, and they came on in rapid strides, yelling like demons. The Confederates overpowered the Nineteenth Indiana, striking on both flanks. [The enemy] left was then exposed to an enfilading fire and was forced to fall back. [Near the western crest of McPherson’s Ridge], the Twenty-fourth Michigan fought desperately but the Twenty-sixth North Carolina would not be denied.

As Lane later recalled, “the engagement was becoming desperate, It seemed as if the bullets were as thick as hailstones in a storm. At this time the colors have been cut down ten times, the color guard all killed or wounded. We have now struck the second line of the enemy where the fighting is fiercest and the killing is deadliest. Suddenly, Captain W.W. McCreery, Assistant Inspector General of the Brigade, rushes forward to Col. Burgwyn.

He bears him a message. “Tell him,” says General [James Johnston] Pettigrew, “his regiment has covered itself with glory today.” Delivering these encouraging words, Capt. McCreery…seizes the fallen flag, waves it aloft and advancing to the front, is shot through the heart and falls, bathing the flag in his life’s blood. Lieut. George Wilcox of Company H, now rushes forward, and pulling the flag from under the dead hero, advances with it. In a few steps he also falls with two wounds – not fatal – in his body.”

"No Man Can Take Those Colors and Live"

26th North Carolina
Colonel Henry King Burgwyn, Jr., Lt. Col. John R. Lane, Sgt. Jefferson Mansfield, and Pvt. John Vinson Pettigrew’s Brigade - Heth’s Division - Hill’s Corps

The 26th North Carolina Regiment started the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg with 800 men. By sunset, 588 of them were either dead or wounded. Yelling like demons, they had courageously charged and taken the formidable federal position on Seminary Ridge. Fourteen colorbearers in the 26th were shot down in succession. One of them was 21 year old Henry King Burgwyn, the youngest colonel in the Confederate army, who stained the flag with his blood as he fell wrapped in it’s folds.

Within seconds a bullet entered his heart and the officer pitched forward drenching the standard with his blood. Lt. George Wilcox pulled the blood soaked flag from underneath Mcreery’s lifeless form and pushed ahead into the maelstrom. After a few steps, two rounds pierced his chest, but he survived.

Fearing that his troops might falter at this critical juncture Burgwyn seized the flag staff from Wilcox. With his outstretched sword in one hand and the flag in the other, he ordered the regiment to "Dress on the colors". Mortally wounded Col. Burgwyn is said to have whispered, "I know my gallant men will do their duty. Where is my sword?" Then he was gone.

====================================================================

George E. Pickett

Fourteen different color bearers from the 26th North Carolina, including their "boy colonel", Henry Burgwyn had been killed or grievously wounded holding aloft the regiment's colors.

Despite suffering enormous casualties in their fight with the 24th Michigan and the rest of the Iron Brigade, Lt. Col. J.R. Lane lifted the flag once more and yelled, "twenty-sixth, follow me!" The fight for Herbst Woods proved to be the bloodiest regimental fight in the Civil War's bloodiest battle. The 26th North Carolina lost 687 out of 843 men at Gettysburg and the 24th Michigan suffered 73% casualties. These two units suffered more casualties than any other regiments in their respective armies.

Now we have the opportunity to join with our friends at the Conservation Fund to save the very ground that the Iron Brigade and the 26th North Carolina trod during their epic struggle on July 1, 1863. This long sought-after ground, coupled with a separate preservation effort at the Josiah Benner House property, makes this one of the most exciting opportunities in our history.

============================
It is piquantly tragic. Why? Never before was the federal government so totally unworthy of the armed services the American people provide for the country. Never was there a more obvious traitor in the White House; never was there a more feeble, morally disgusting Congress.

Americans are a wonderful folk, forgiving and patient with impossible leaders; but we have reached a point that what our servicemen sacrifice their lives for that which has become a dream of the past. Our servicemen give their lives for a dream. The reality for which they serve is a far, far cry from that dream–however superior that policial, social reality is to anything else in this present world. While daily our federal government schemes to rob Americans of more and more of our freedoms, we still have more than any other country.

Yet, how can we truly honor our war dead, when what they sacrificed for is being taken away from us–by the very government they served, the very government sworn to uphold our Constitution and our freedoms? The irony is nigh unbearable. We honor what they died for, though it no longer exists.

Memorial Day 2011: How About A New Meaning?

View Image

The Memorial Day 2011 weekend is upon us. Many will use this weekend as the first short vacation of summer. Picnics, boating, traveling, family gatherings, and dedication to enjoyable activities are the rule this weekend.

But Memorial Day is meant to honor the men and women who died in military service to the United States of America. Formerly known as “Decoration Day,” it was first established in 1868 to decorate the graves of the Civil War (War of Northern Aggression) dead.

This weekend, there will be memorial services and parades across America in town squares, churches and at cemeteries. Flowers will be strewn and American flags will be in grand display. Politicians will walk the route, and military veterans will don old uniforms and walk with them. Twenty-one gun salutes and taps will echo among the headstones. Impassioned speeches will be delivered to patriotic crowds on the goodness of America and the honor and bravery of the fallen soldiers and sailors.

And Americans will be remembering all the wrong things.

How about a reality check?

Those who fought and died (over 364,000) in Lincoln’s Army died invading another sovereign nation, the Confederate States of America. The CSA, who lost over 139,000 soldiers, was defending itself from the aggression of a foreign nation. It would have been no different morally if the Northern Army would have invaded Canada. So, Northern mourners should remember the shame of the North, not just that their loved ones died in battle. And Southerners should forever laud their sons who valiantly died in an attempt to thwart a foreign invasion and protect their homeland.

Suits And Badges

Warning For Police Brutality Clip Art

Anyone who has ever worked with cops understands not only their tribal nature, but where they actually fall in the hierarchy of government power.

It isn’t where you think.

Government power, contrary to popular and media belief, lies not with the badges, but with the elected and appointed suits to whom law enforcement officers report and from whom their agencies receive budgetary allocations.

Even in those relatively rare situations (e.g., county sheriffs) where there is direct election of the chief law enforcement officer in a jurisdiction, that agency still receives its funding via other organs of state power (e.g., the state legislature, the county legislature, Federal law enforcement and highway safety grants, etc.).

So as you review recent events and feel justifiable outrage at the conduct of uniformed officers, never forget the following:

Police officers always act in precisely and exactly the manner that they are permitted to act by the suits, be they in the management of their agency, its chain of command leading to the highest elected executive branch official in that jurisdiction, in the legislative branches that fund that agency, or any combination thereof.

The links above (as well as the recent SWAT raid that many have been discussing) all must just be one more in a long string of “isolated incidents.” Of course according to you there is no problem here, nothing to see, so we should all just shut up and move along otherwise we are labeled “cop haters” with opinions unworthy of consideration because it is nothing more than regurgitated Kool-Aid.

  • Instead we must all show the proper level of deference and subservience to the exalted personages in blue or else. Heaven forbid there are those of us who are not in need of police protection and are tired of that being used as an excuse to continually extort more money out of us so that cops can get their next juicy pay raise or that nice 90% paycheck at 30 years in perpetuity while my brothers in arms get a measly 50% at 20 and frequently are unfit to get a second job after they complete their time because their bodies are so beat down.

  • And to add injury to insult, if the funding can’t be extorted through further taxation you can always shake us down through taxation by other means, namely fines. Here in California the cops are like sharks circling a bloodied and wound animal. I have seen more cops out writing tickets in the last two years than I have seen in my previous 40 years of life combined while patrols in seedier gang infested areas are neglected but what do I know…we are all just a bunch of bitter Kool-Aid drinking “cop haters” who have absolutely no justification for any of our opinions.

Maybe you should get out and rub elbows with the hoi polloi a bit more and broaden your horizons (and your perspective) instead of drinking all of that cop Kool-Aid that you seem to have been imbibing in mass quantities at all of your tactical conferences.

When I start seeing the majority of officers call out police misconduct and punish the abuser rather than resort to that blue wall of silence they will have my support, until then, me and a heck of a lot more like me have had more than our fill of the arrogance, pomposity, tyranny, and abuse. We understand that there are criminals and bad people in the world but we are tired of the “us vs. them” and “everyone is a perp mentality” that gets applied to peaceable citizens today just as frequently as it does to legitimate hardened criminals.

  • The use of SWAT teams for absolutely everything is just one more symptom of this national police sickness that cops have been infected with today. We get tired of hearing how officer safety is paramount and how them returning home safely at the end of the shift is far more important than the life of one innocent citizen. If the job is too dangerous or too stressful then find another one, no one forced any of you to serve and you weren’t drafted. Unless things change soon it doesn’t bode well for the nation.

This messed up Orwellian nation that I have left to my children and my grandchildren sickens me and I hope they forgive me for allowing it to happen. But then what do I really know, I probably just drank too much Kool-Aid!

Happy Memorial Day to everyone by the way! Let’s not forget all of those servicemen who lost their lives on foreign soil (including my uncle and my best friend) although I know their sacrifice pails in comparison to all of you cops.

    Primary Unit of Political Allegiance:

“Central to [traditional interpretations of the Revolution and Jeffersonian America] is the old reality of American political life that the State was the primary unit of political allegiance, the chief locus of political identity, and the level at which most significant political questions were decided in the Early Republic.

It should be unsurprising that in the absence of television, radio, news magazines, national newspapers, air travel, interstate highways, the Internet, and even cheap postal service, and in a day when very few people went away to college, it was uncommon for anyone to “think continentally.”

When Virginians argued about what a republic should be, then, their concern was almost never some Platonic ideal republic, nor even the United States, but their own Old Dominion.”

Students Suspended for wearing White T-Shirts

    ==========
    Via Southern Nationalist Network

Students banned from a Central Coast school for wearing a white t-shirt. On Wednesday, Soquel High School suspended at least two students. The students say it's because of allegations, they're part of a white supremacist group.

"All the girls wore pink, all the sports guys wore tank tops," says Soquel High Senior Mikey Donnelly. "We were all going to wear white so that was the plan. Just wear white t-shirts to identify ourselves and look back and say that was our group of friends right there."

Soquel High Senior Mikey Donnelly wore a white t-shirt for his senior class photo Tuesday. About 10 of his friends did the same. That decision may seem harmless. But Soquel High suspended Donnelly for three days because of it.

Donnelly said the school told him people were offended and intimidated by his group, claiming they're a white supremacist gang.

"I do think this is BS," says Donnelly. "I'm not a white supremacist in any way shape or form. If I did say white power, I would probably say it just as much as I say black power."

He's not the only one upset.

"I feel disrespected," says Soquel High Senior David Mine.

Mine also wore a white t-shirt and was also suspended. He's missing out on finals and that could jeopardize his graduation.

"I'm Asian," says Mine. "I don't see how I can be a white supremacist. I'm against it completely."

    I AM JOSE GUERENA

    View Image

I am completely unable to get Jose Guerena's murder out of my head.

Maybe it's because I know I too respond to unknown situations in my home with a rifle in hand.

Maybe it's because I know I'd damned sure respond armed and ready if my door were being kicked in. In fact, if my door were kicked in, it's safe to say my selector switch would not be on "safe" (spare me the range safety lessons and read on, please).

That could have been me helplessly bleeding out on my own floor. That could have been my wife held outside as I died on my floor.

    I AM JOSE GUERENA.

If I hear "Freedom Isn't Free", one more time, I'm going to explode. Just shut up with it. Now.

Our freedom was not won or lost in Germany, France, Vietnam, Guadalcanal, Iraq, or Afghanistan. Don't get me wrong, I'm not demeaning what went on in those places. I am not making light of the sacrifices of those who fought in those places, only emphasizing our utter failure as citizens. Stay with me here. Freedom isn't free, and we've sold ours, or worse, given it away. A soldier can defend liberty in faraway places, but it is not his role to defend it on our shores. That is your job, and it is mine.

In this, we are abject failures.

Our nation, our ideals, our liberty has been lost, in peacetime, at home, by us.

WHAT IN THE HOLY HELL IS WRONG WITH US?

I don’t know what my country is anymore.

    View Image

I still know some of the people, intelligent folks who’ve resisted the quixotic temptations offered by competing brands of simplistic political rhetoric, but I no longer recognize my government.

I’m sure the myth I swallowed during my youthful indoctrination of American Exceptionalism was verging towards complete rot by the time I hit kindergarten, but I bought the fable and believed it with all of my heart for most of my life.

America was the citizen’s country, a democratic republic which enshrined the rule of law, safeguarded people’s civil liberties with a venerated Bill of Rights. An open system that held political representatives accountable to their constituents, overseen by an impartial judiciary sworn to protect even the lowliest among us from governmental aggression or abuse.

None of this is true anymore.

    "Drop Gun?"

"What Were You Guys Thinking? Why Did You Kill Him?"

"Why, why did you kill him?" a traumatized Vanessa Guerena begged to know as she was interrogated in a makeshift "command center" by detectives from the same Sheriff's Office that had just slaughtered her husband Jose. Her questioners, eager to exploit her trauma to extract information, initially refused to give her a straightforward answer.

Jose, who had finished a graveyard shift at the Asarco copper mine, was sleeping when a SWAT team from the Pima County Sheriff's Office laid siege to his home on the morning of May 5. Vanessa was doing laundry, and the couple's four-year-old son Joel was watching "Transformers," when the SWAT raiders pulled up in a Bear Cat armored vehicle.

The siren sounded for less than ten seconds; just a few seconds later, the order to "breach" the door was given because, as on-scene commander Deputy Bob Krygier later explained, nobody inside the house had "submitted to our authority."

Vanessa initially thought that there was an emergency "somewhere in the neighborhood," and called the police. When she saw armed intruders on her property, Vanessa screamed for her husband to wake up. Jose told Vanessa to take their younger son (whose older brother, Jose, Jr., was in school) and hide in the closet, while he went to confront the invaders.
Seconds later, Jose was sprawled face-first in a pool of his own blood, shredded by more than sixty rounds fired by the SWAT team. That's how his four-year-old son would later find him. Joel was left alone after Vanessa, who had gone out to plead for someone to get medical help for her husband, was assaulted and brutalized by the SWAT operators and then detained for questioning. The child remained alone in the house with the body of his dead father while Krygier developed a "tactical team" to extract the child at minimal risk. That is, minimal risk to the berserkers who had just killed Joel's dad.

Sen. Jim DeMint: President has Stocked NLRB with 'Union Thugs'

    View Image

Senator Jim DeMint, R-S.C., sat down for an interview with Coffee and Markets, a podcast hosted by Brad Jackson and Ben Domenech. When asked about the National Labor Relations Board's attempt to keep Boeing from building a factory in his state, DeMint had some exceptionally harsh words for the NLRB:

DeMint: I mean, they’ll lose the first couple of appeals because they go back to the board that the President has stocked with union thugs basically, and –

Cianfrocca: “Union thugs”, may we quote you? That’s a great word.

DeMint: Once this gets in front of a fair and impartial judge they’ll win, but it’s only after millions of dollars in legal expenses and several years of chilling effect.

    Cianfrocca: Yes.

DeMint: What they’re trying to do is to tell any company in America, don’t even think about moving to a right to work state or expanding to a right to work state or you’re going to have to go through millions of dollars of legal expenses and this type of government harassment. It’s pretty amazing in America that we’re dealing with this type of third world tyranny.

The Quranic Concept of War Understanding Jihad

    Mike Scruggs

In 1979, Pakistani Brigadier General S. K. Malik wrote a book entitled The Quranic Concept of War. He was strongly encouraged in this effort by Pakistani Army Chief of Staff, General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, who had recently made himself President of Pakistan. Following widespread civil disorder, Zia had deposed ruling Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in a bloodless coup on July 5, 1977. Zia was killed in a suspicious aircraft crash in the Punjab in August 1988, along with several of his generals and U.S. Ambassador Arnold Lewis Raphel. Zia is most famous for his joint support with the United States of the Afghan Mujahideen (holy warriors) against the Soviet Union during the Soviet-Afghan War from 1979 to 1989. He was fundamentalist in his Muslim faith and helped to replace the older British Colonial system of law with Sharia during his presidency.

Zia was so enthusiastic about Malik's brief 158-page book that he wrote a Foreword and a 25-page Preface to it. In the Foreword, Zia pointed out that Jihad and the Quranic concept of war were not exclusively for soldiers or restricted to military means but were also the responsibility of all Muslims in every endeavor of Muslim life.

In the Preface, Zia defined Jihad with these words:

The most glorious word in the vocabulary of Islam is Jihad, a word which is untranslatable in English, but broadly speaking, means 'striving', 'struggling',

'trying to advance the Divine causes or purposes.”

He further points out that Jihad “is a conflict between good and evil, between right and wrong, between truth and untruth, and between legitimate and forbidden courses of conduct.” He elaborates a bit on the concept of Jihad Bin-nafs or struggling with oneself, but moves quickly to the duty of every Muslim to make certain that Islam is not impeded. He insists that all Jihad is defensive but defines defensive in such a way that any opposition to Islam must be crushed. He quotes the Koran (Quran):

“Therefore, when you meet the unbelievers, smite their necks; at length, when you have thoroughly subdued them, build a barrier against them;”

He explains that Islam views the world in terms of two opposing camps, one submissive to Allah, Islam, and Sharia, and the other in opposition to Allah, Islam, and Sharia. It is the duty of the first, the House of Islam, to conquer and bring the other into submission. Islam is an Arabic word meaning not peace but “submission.” The choice to “infidels”

    will be submission or destruction.

Finally, Zia endorses a decidedly enlightened doctrine of the conduct of war similar to the Geneva Convention and Christian War Doctrine. These rules can be justified by Quranic verses. They include making a distinction between combatants and non-combatants, avoiding injury to non-combatants, forbidding excess cruelties of any kind, prohibition of reprisals and collective punishments, and decent treatment of enemy prisoners and wounded.

Unfortunately, some of these rules are contradicted by other Quranic verses and many of Muhammad's historical actions. In addition, at least two of the four principal Sunni Muslim schools of jurisprudence allow extremely broad definitions of combatants to include even women, children, and handicapped persons who fight against Islam with words or actions--also very broadly defined. Regrettably, Western rules of martial conduct have also been abused in similar ways. On balance, these Quranic rules of warfare, as endorsed by General Zia, are enlightened and commendable policies if followed. The problem in their application is the sharp distinction the Quran and Muhammad often make between Muslims and those who will not submit to Islam. The ultimate choice for non-Muslims remains not peaceful coexistence, but conversion to Islam, a degraded form of slavery, or death.

Brigadier Malik makes some critical distinctions between Jihad and military strategy:

“The first step to this study is to understand the difference between total strategy, that is, Jihad, and military strategy….Jihad entails the comprehensive direction and application of power while military strategy deals only with the preparation for and application of force. Jihad is a continuous and never-ending struggle waged on all fronts including political, economic, social, psychological, domestic, moral, and spiritual to obtain the object of policy. It aims at attaining the overall mission assigned to the Islamic State, and military strategy is one of the means available to do so. It is waged at individual as well as collective levels; and at internal as well as external fronts.”

The broader aspects of Jihad, including political propaganda and agitation, infiltration of government and educational organizations, establishing Muslim enclaves by migration, interfaith religious “dialogues,” and establishing a system of mosques and schools in target countries can also create conditions for quick and easy military victory. In Europe and North America, multiculturalism, political correctness, and hate-speech laws have severely muzzled opposition and seriously hindered the West's ability to resist more and more aggressive Islamization. The broad strategy of “civilization” Jihad is creating political fifth columns that could eventually render the West almost defenseless, both politically and militarily.

Malik's book is filled with many military applications of Quranic thinking. In view of the great clash of civilizations that now confronts the peoples of a dangerously clueless West, the Quranic Concept of War should be read with urgent interest.

She provided a riveting antidote to the “fiddle-dee-dee” school of southern womanhood on which I had been weaned as a teenager in the 1960s. Although Scarlett O’Hara was a beguiling screen heroine, Mary Boykin Chesnut was a flesh and blood Rebel, whose wartime scribbling brought to life intimate and important aspects of southern culture. Since its publication in 1905, Chesnut’s diary has become compelling reading.

Enemy at gate? Not in this case

    photo

On the other side of the barbed-wire fence, John Joe Gray, a "free-standing man" and fugitive from the law, is locked and loaded for the coming apocalypse or authorities - whichever shows up first.

"It's coming," he says. "It's time this country knows God is coming."

A rifle is slung across his back and a gun belt around his waist holds a revolver and extra cartridges. A knife is strapped to the other side of his lean torso. A battered felt hat frames a deeply lined face and bushy beard.

Dangling from a nearby tree, a hangman's noose strangles a weathered sign that sums up his stance: "Solution to tyranny."

Warily covering Gray's flanks are two of his six children, sons Jonathan, 39, and Timothy, 33. The dark-bearded, fit and tanned brothers are as well-armed as their 62-year-old father.

Ten feet behind her brothers and father, long-haired Ruth Gray, 31, stands solemn and silent. She, too, is armed to the teeth.

Next to her is teenager Jessica Gray, "who is old enough," according to her father, Jonathan. She has on a cowboy hat that the wind keeps blowing off, a long denim skirt, a sequined denim vest and cowboy boots. She's packing a pistol and binoculars.

    Law is ignoring him

This is one stubborn side of what has been called America's longest-running standoff with law enforcement.

But it's been a single-sided siege. Henderson County authorities have pointedly ignored the would-be war.

For more than 11 years, John Joe Gray and his country clan have been holed up inside their own private prison, a 47-acre strip of Trinity River bottomland about 100 miles southeast of Fort Worth in Henderson County.

Thoughts on the "American Redoubt" and Secession

On the subject of secession, and an autonomous breakaway region in North America, I know there is a lot of debate about the feasability of such a movement's success.

The US government's military might is fearful. No doubt. Consider though, if you would, the one thing many fail to realize, namely, that the US government is great at blowing things up, but is utterly incapable of winning wars, being stuck in a WW1/WW2 mindset.

Name me one war America has clearly won and exited in the last sixty years...

    Just one.

    You cannot.
