$PLC Declares Itself A "Hate Group"

The Dan Stein Report

By Ira Mehlman

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) spends most of its time and most of its donors' money designating organizations they disagree with as "hate groups." Business is brisk: they managed to find 1,002 groups to slap with the designation in 2010.

One vexing problem for SPLC is that they have never clearly defined what a hate group is. It seems to be a fluid definition that keeps changing to suit SPLC's needs. In a March 2nd webcast, which featured SPLC President Richard Cohen "grilling" hate-designator-in-chief Mark Potok, a new definition emerged. According to Potok a hate group is an organization that engages in "deliberate lying and defamation."

Engaging in "deliberate lying (is there any other kind of lying?) and defamation." Isn't that kind of your job description Mr. Potok? Applying that definition, it's surprising SPLC was only able to come up with 1,002 groups to earn the designation.
